Ralph Nader decided to open his trap about Barack Obama on Monday in an interview with the Rocky Mountain News, AND: “There’s only one thing different about Barack Obama when it comes to being a Democratic presidential candidate. He’s half African-American. Whether that will make any difference, I don’t know. I haven’t heard him have a strong crackdown on economic exploitation in the ghettos. Payday loans, predatory lending, asbestos, lead. What’s keeping him from doing that? Is it because he wants to talk white?” Indeed, why can’t Wonder Bread Obama over here find himself a damn niche already? [Rocky Mountain News]

Nader will call a press conference, rip off his mask (like the aliens in V) and we’ll find out that it’s been Karl Rove all along.

  • ForeignSickSpecialist

Ralph Nader is the blackest man on the planet. “I’m Black Y’all!”- From the Legendary C4.

  • shortsshortsshorts

Surely the world’s headlines will change when the Rocky Mountain News becomes circulated beyond it’s current 300 subscribers.

  • tunamelt

[re=24301]ManchuCandidate[/re]: I think he’s more like a Disney animatronic figure operated by Rove in a secret lair in the Hall of Presidents.

  • Q2

It is the exploding gas tank that was installed in Barack Obama in his first model year that qualifies Mr. Nader on point out that Barry must play by the rules of the the game in order to have a chance to win the game.

  • AxmxZ

Seriously yo, where was Barry when people were breathing in asbestos in the ghetto?

Oh wait, he was also breathing asbestos in the ghetto. And fighting to remove the asbestos from the ghetto.

  • NotUrEvryDayWEzl

Yes, but like any human hybrid, is he black where it counts!?!?!?

  • AngryBlakGuy
  • Squiggyfm

Congats to Ralph Nader for saying the most racist sentence since Hitler!

  • NoWireHangers

Oh, to be a biracial child: you’re never enough of anything to please anyone.

  • SayItWithWookies

Way to go, Ralph — no better way to focus the country on the issues you consider important than mentioning race. Hey, John McCrone is a white guy — why isn’t he making speeches about bringing “Everybody Loves Raymond” back, or doing something about the price of Miracle Whip? Christ on a biscuit, we’re a fuckin’ nation of four-year-olds.

  • johnbpt

Oh, Ralph. I love you man, but for the sake of your legacy you should have died like a decade ago.

Mr. Nader, you have cleared the shark threshold and entered the Twilight Zone.

Would that Mr. Nader could have spoken the voter interest dialect in 2000.

  • artbot2000

Every four years; kind of like a broken clock set at calendar speed.
Now we have an answer to the question:
“What do Raph Nader and James Dobson have in common?”
    Besides the obvious asshole thing.

  • AxmxZ

    [re=24322]johnbpt[/re]: Word.

so Ralph Nader is calling someone too white? I have too many jokes, they’re all fighting to come out.

  • Servo

    …in a Corvair.

does anyone besides ralphie use the word “ghetto” anymore?

what year is this–have i time traveled again?

Where was Barry? He was smoking crack, yo. Word.

“Whether that will make any difference, I don’t know. I haven’t heard him have a strong crackdown on economic exploitation in the ghettos. Payday loans, predatory lending, asbestos, lead. What’s keeping him from doing that? Is it because he wants to talk white? He doesn’t want to appear like Jesse Jackson?”

Ralphie may be on to something here. I’ve desperately been waiting for the day when an African-American politician will stand up before the voters and deliver vicious battle raps about the inner city. (OK, I want Flava Flav to be my president in some sort of combination Flavor of Love/Capital Gang orgy of wrong. If America’s going to be flushed down the toilet, I want none of this creeping corporate fascist bullshit — I want it flushed down HARD, with turds on the stairwell and policy whitepapers signed off with YEEEEEEEEAH, BOY!)

God. Judging Ralph by his own rhetoric — anybody, conservative OR liberal, who doesn’t see any difference between the two parties after 2000 needs to be forcibly sterilized with nude pictures of Wolfson and the business end of a melon baller.

  • Dave J.

“I have yet to hear him take a position on the hos vs. tricks debate that I understand is so prevalent in “black” culture.”

No, I think he’ll rip off his mask and reveal Don Imus.

[re=24322]johnbpt[/re]: He’ll never die. He’s always wearing his damned seat belt.

  • XOMuffintop

According to Ralph, Barry does “shine” enough and has a “whack swerve.” Give me a break. What’s next, Nader trying to out old McCain? Wait, he can, can’t he? Maybe he has a point.

  • Bill_TX

Barry doesn’t talk about any of that stuff because in our nation
of imbeciles, nobody cares about that shit. It’s gotta be all
about hope or experience or change or whatever else, otherwise
the bitters won’t put you in the White House.

I think someone strapped on their seat belt a little to snugly.

Then again, maybe he has a point. Barry doesn’t jive talk, or own a junkyard with his politically progressive son, or magically guide white people about how to golf.

Obama’s confusing the hell out of the electorate–which is why he’s up by 15.

  • Dave J.

Note to Ralph Nader: when a given group gives you like a 95% approval rating, it means they think you’re addressing their issues just fine.

    p.s. Die in a fire.

  • gjdodger

Just cool it, Ralph. On Inauguration Day, Barry will be there in a caftan, a dashiki and sunglasses, with Sistah Souljah at his side, and declare a week of killing white people.

Well, there’s a rumor out there that Barack Obama Sr. was 7/8 Arab and and 1/8 black African (as classified by the Kenya govt), which would make Obama no blacker than a half-octoroon like Mary Landrieu… This would probably make rumored octoroon Bob Barr blacker than Obama too. So Nader has a good point here.

Um, but, he’s right, of course. White people “eat up” Obama’s schtick (except the fuckwits who think he’s a terrorist) because he’s so “non-threatening”. That’s what “white guilt” means, of course — why don’t we support someone who is just like us, except who has a diffenrent skin color, to make us feel better. “White guilt” is not used to mean solidarity with the economically exploited.

Just think, Nader-haters, what the world would be like if Nader hadn’t “spoiled” the election for Gore. We could be celebrating another historic Democratic nominee, Lieberman!

  • wonk_the_heck

It’s difficult to turn on someone who I used to revere.
My hatred for Ralph has now matured and ripened. In 2004
I would have settled for smacking him but now I wouldn’t
piss on him if his guts were on fire.

  • thefrontpage

You just watch–Ralph Nader’s going to easily score about 65 million votes in November, and he’ll be elected the next President of the United States.

And then you’re going to see some real change, you better believe it!

    He’s going to win–really.

  • janine

Obama’s problems expressing his blackness go pretty far back: I’d say he’s less confused now.

  • lawrenceofthedesert

Nader has the luxury of focusing on issues rather than personality, since he hasn’t much chance of winning (sorry thefrontpage). But the Obama campaign could use Ralph to their advantage by gently helping to direct the too-angry Hillary posse towards Nader rather than McCain.

This thread has inspired a parody, “What’s It all About, Ralphie?” but it can’t be a Song of the Month because of copyright laws. June’s Song of the Month, “John McCain Was Born 10,000 Years Ago,” ( is a parody, but the tune is public domain and thus okay to use. However, you can post lyrics (without music) that parody a pop song and use the Mad Magazine disclaimer, “Can be sung to the tune of “What’s It All About, Alfie?” That right was held up by the US Supreme Court, before they were known as Crudmouth Clarence and the Stem Cell Stormtroopers. Maybe Wonkette should have a “What’s It All About, Ralphie?” contest.

  • Lionel Hutz Esq.

Yo! Yo! Yo! When a home-boy like MC Nader lays down some mad beats like that, you better listen up. Come on, my niggars, you know that Obama ain’t down with the street. While Ralph is getting his freak on with a little old school R&B and a 40, you know Barack is listening to Kenny G and drinking Chablis.

  • AnnieGetYourFun

[re=24475]Turd Way[/re]: How do you explain Bush’s presidency? Was it the retard-sympathy vote? All those people who wanted to assuage their guilt over having never had a mentally incapacitated leader?

Also: Mmmmm, crackers. I’m going to go have some elitist crackers right now (parmesan-flavored).

  • badco/LoJ

I’ve heard Nader kills at parties with his “Corvairs be like/Pintos be like” routine.

  • Tits_LaRue

…He wants to appeal to white guilt. You appeal to white guilt not by coming on as black is beautiful, black is powerful. Basically he’s coming on as someone who is not going to threaten the white power structure… And they love it. Whites just eat it up.

If by “Whites just eat it up…” Ralph means that we all want a piece of sweet, smooth milk chocolate melting in our mouths, then yes Ralph, we do want to “eat up” Obama. It’s not ‘White Guilt,’ Ralph, it’s White Lust. Sorry, 2.74% of the popular vote meant nobody really wanted to fuck you in 2000, and even less want to fuck you now, only the hygienically-challenged trolls hanging out at ‘last call’ wearing 2 pairs of beer goggles, biodegradable sandals made from recycled dental floss and a stained ‘Impeach Bush’ tee-shirt.

  • lawchic

[re=24475]Turd Way[/re]: Your comment is the reason that Nader’s comments are offensive. Is it beyond belief that all Black guys are not “threatening”? This is the stereotype Black men have to fight everyday. If they don’t shuck, jive, smile, and nod their head for some nervous White people, then they MUST be “threatening.” Give me a break. If people would go out and actually talk to and have meaningful interactions with other Black people, instead of getting their dosage of Blackness when Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson, appear on t.v., they might not be so close minded.
And excuse me, but what the F*** does Nader know about the “ghetto”? If he knew anything, he would have realized before opening his mouth that because some of the inner city Black kids are so ashamed about their academic achievement and the conditions in their schools, they accuse other Black students of either “acting” or “talking” White if they try to excel. This phenomenon has been around since I was in public school fifteen years ago. But he either realized this and flapped his gums anyway, or he is talking out of the side of his ass. Either way, he should STFU.

After this incident, don’t tell me how great Nader is. This guy is an attention mongering douchebag, and I have officially lost all respect for him.

  • Canuckledragger

“Indeed, why can’t Wonder Bread Obama over here find himself a damn niche already?”

He’s about four months away from finding that “niche.” It’s called the Presidency, and it’s located in an Oval Office @ 1600 PennAve. But you all knew that.

However, what I didn’t know is that Hopey is “Wonder Bread.” Building strong bodies twelve different ways?

Here I always thought he was marble rye. Ya lurns sumfin’ every day.

  • janine

I hate to get bitter in the comments section, but I give you a vintage “Last Dragon” YouTube clip and I get silence? Only Kanye can understand how under appreciated I feel.

  • populucious

I haven’t heard him have a strong crackdown on economic exploitation in the ghettos. Payday loans, predatory lending, asbestos, lead. What’s keeping him from doing that? Is it because he wants to talk white?

Come to think of it, I haven’t heard myself have a strong crackdown on any of these things either, except to say the words over and over, repeatedly, like unfunny tourettes. ASBESTOS! What’s keeping me from doing that? LEAD! UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED! Is it because I’m a douche bag? ENVIRONMENTAL WASTE!

  • Turd Way

[re=24627]lawchic[/re]: Maybe “talking white” isn’t the best word to use. But when you’re dealing with possibly first black president after a long line of crappy white ones, who people are investing all kinds of hope in precisely for that reason, talking like white politician would be bad. Nader isn’t saying that Barack Obama is “talking white” because he’s articulate, he’s saying Obama doesn’t have an agenda to deal with the economically exploited. This isn’t just disappointing because he’s black but mainly because he says he’s a “progressive” who will bring big “change” after years of far right-wing governing. I think Nader has made this point before, that Obama is mainly a “corporate Democrat,” and I’m sure he brings up the race issue because it is seen as a reason why Obama represents change over someone like Hillary when liberal voters made him the nominee. In reality Obama and Hillary are barely different on policy.

  • DoctorNine

Politics of identity is a trap for those with no imagination or soul. And you can’t talk about it, because there are fragile people invested in it. That ego investment makes them jump like a bullfrog poked with a stick.

We can rise above it, right?
    YES WE CAN!!!!

But we can’t talk about it.
Now THAT’S what freedom is about.

[re=24808]Turd Way[/re]: Absolutely agree. Nader may be long past his use-by date, but his basic point is sound. Beyond his great speeches, exactly what has Obama done to substantiate his claim of being an agent for change? The fact is, sweet F.A.

Obamaniacs seem to despise Hillary (despite the fact that, philosophically and politically, they are almost identical). The consensus seems to be that she is a triangulating, duplicitous, throw-‘em-under-the-bus kinda gal, capable of unlimited asshattery- I’m a Hillary supporter, and I’d be the first to agree!

The thing I find worrying about some Obama supporters is that they seem to think that he is somehow different, somehow better. The more we learn about him, however, the more obvious it becomes that he is just another corporate / special interest backed, triangulating, throw-‘em-under-the-bus politician, and I’d be willing to bet there isn’t much that Hillary (or WALNUTS! for that matter) would be able to teach him about asshattery. That’s the point Nader was making.

If WALNUTS! wins the election (yeah, the early numbers are against him, but they were against George the Elder and George the Dumber, too) those seeking change will be disappointed; but what if Obama wins, and it’s business as usual? Unrealistic expectation can be a bitch.

    Only time will tell…

  • badco/LoJ

[re=24808]Turd Way[/re]: “Maybe ‘talking white’ isn’t the best word to use.”

    Jeez, ya think?

Nader didn’t accuse Obama of “talking white” because he’s articulate (although that’s exactly what the term means.) He was invoking the old double standard: because he is Black, Obama has the responsibility of representing all other Blacks first. It rears its head every time a Black celebrity is assumed to be a “role model,” and we see it when Obama is asked to “answer to” or “reject/denounce” others’ claims that otherwise wouldn’t be an issue.
