John McCain Suddenly Doesn’t Want To Leave Iraq!

Here’s WALNUTS! on this morning’s Today show, fucking himself over. He says that getting our troops out of Iraq is “not too important” considering the fact that we have military bases in such places as Japan and Germany, still. You may recall this “permanent occupation” line of logic from the Republican primary season, as it was the single most horrifying thing a presidential candidate said all cycle. Ohhh, WALNUTS! Hey, you fuckers still have bases south of the Mason-Dixon line as well…

No song to go with it? You’re fuckin’ slippin’ WALNUTS!

Good lord, it warms the cockles of my dead liberal heart to remember just how bad a politician John McCain can be, thanks to his frequent bursts of ego over spin. All of which makes him a better person, of course, but that’s neither here nor there.

  4. ManchuCandidate says at 12:26 pm, June 11th, 2008

Why should he leave? He’s the only human alive that’s seen the Garden of Eden (before it got blown up with cluster bombs and irradiated with Depleted Uranium.)

  5. thefrontpage says at 12:27 pm, June 11th, 2008

We may be wrong on this, but Japan apparently attacked the United States a while back, and the bases there were established as part of solid agreements in the wake of World War II, and Germany attacked a large part of the world and killed 6 million innocent people and the bases there were estabished in the wake of World War II, also. How on earth is a possibly illegal war trumped up on false and dishonest and possibly criminal claims based on faulty, doctored and wrong propaganda in any way similar to the circumstances of World War II and its aftermath? Such statements are really scary coming from someone who is running to be the president of the United States–very, very scary.

  6. NoWireHangers says at 12:28 pm, June 11th, 2008

More horrifying than “bitter” “waffles” and “snipers”? Those are the issues the American people care about.

  7. helzapoppn says at 12:30 pm, June 11th, 2008

It may be a coded signal to the Germans, Japanese and Koreans to start little insurgencies against their American occupiers…I mean, isn’t 55-60 years enough to stabilize their shaky democracies?

  8. V572625694 says at 12:30 pm, June 11th, 2008

Haliburton and Blackwater still have some profit objectives they haven’t met. Fifty-some “permanent” bases ought to move their balance sheets in the required direction. Oh yes, they’re not really permanent, just like our bases in Germany and Korea aren’t permanent. Ha ha ha.

Nikolai Vsevolodovich Stavrogin: Those bases are there (in the south) because southern politicians fight fiercely to get them and keep them there. Mmmmm…federal pork–is there anything sweeter?

IRAQ->Ruined infrastructure, civil war, hundreds of thousands dead, 4,000 plus our boys dead, IED’s, raw sewage, sand storms, quagmire…
Yeah, makes sense to me Grumpy McOldFart!

  29. Delicious says at 12:59 pm, June 11th, 2008

This has got to be the worst. war. ever.

Why? For the most part, the troops can’t get drunk or fuck whores. Isn’t that the point of being an invading and occupying force? We’re not even doing a good job of plundering their wealth. They’re actually taken us for a ride with all those missing billions.

    This war blows.

  30. CrunchyKnee says at 12:59 pm, June 11th, 2008

Ok, my mom called me after the news segment and basically said ’something isn’t right about him, I think he is senile’. McCain, scaring the bejesus out of a 62 yr old republican from WV. .. now that is change I can believe in

  35. CrunchyKnee: Good idea! Could call it ‘MUSH’.

Hey, John McCain says getting our troops home is ‘not too important’, so fuck it. Time to replace our military with a new one! After all, it’s been a long time since we last lost a military under a sofa somewhere in ‘nam.

  36. edgydrifter says at 1:10 pm, June 11th, 2008

V572625694: Using McNutz non-logic, Germany should still have military bases in Poland. You know, to stabilize them.

  37. Drop-out says at 1:11 pm, June 11th, 2008

Delicious: ah Delicious, look again, those “missing” billions are helping the “security/defense” sector (bubble) float this economy through a mild recession through cost-plus contracts, sub-conracts, sub-sub-contracts, sub-sub-sub-contracts…oh, nevermind…where did I put that bottle again?

  38. Uncle Al says at 1:17 pm, June 11th, 2008

Rachel Maddow was hilarious yesterday when they were talking about McCain saying Obama = Jimmy Carter. Her point was that McCain just reminded everybody that to him, the Carter Presidency seems like yesterday. He doesn’t seem to understand that millions of voters weren’t even born then, so they just think, “What the fuck is this old guy talking about?”

  39. scotterl says at 1:19 pm, June 11th, 2008

What was that bit at the end, “…and the ability to withdraw.” ??? WTF is he talking about? Please demonstrate your ability to withdraw your head from your ass, Mr. Facts-On-The-Ground.

  40. SayItWithWookies says at 1:19 pm, June 11th, 2008

Gopherit v2.0: We have to keep letting Iraqis kill Americans until they finally realize that’s not the way to make us leave. The way to make us leave is to let us stay in Iraq forever, obviously.

  41. AngryBlakGuy says at 1:23 pm, June 11th, 2008

Gopherit v2.0: …despite the fact that 80% of the citizenry hates this war “W” and his minions have done a SPECTACULAR job at spinning it. How else can you explain how talking puss bags can come out and say the surge is working and people actually believe them? You have people that will argue that 20 American soldiers dying in a foreign country is not only acceptable but a VICTORY. These dumbasses don’t realize that “Terrorist” don’t care if they are killing civilians or soldiers as long as they are AMERICANS!!! That “fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them over” rah-rah slogan is the biggest crock of bullshit ever uttered(almost). The truly sad thing is that if Darwinism had anything to do with this, we would be shipping RED STATE hicks over there by the boat-load until they either wised up or were wiped out chasing a fairy tale!

  44. qwerty42 says at 1:26 pm, June 11th, 2008

WTF? this is crazy. Who does he see acting in this imperial role? the US? Do we get gurkhas or something to handle it? And this after he voted against Webb’s GI Bill? The armies of occupation are over. JFC, the Germans, Japanese and Koreans may start wanting us out. Well, considering its neighbor, maybe not the Koreans. This is nonsense; maybe Darth Cheney and his dead enders think it would be a great idea, but I doubt you could find even enough Republicans to back it.

  45. The Obama campaign had no immediate response - too busy thanking Jesus for McCain’s boundless bounty of dumb.

  46. Wavingsuzy: Encourage her to spread the meme far and wide.

  47. Big Al1317 says at 1:34 pm, June 11th, 2008

Why does Carter keep getting a bad rap? I was a lot better off 20 years ago than I am now. Interest rates sucked, but gas was cheap and we didn’t have no STDs that couldn’t be cured by penicillan. Good times.

  48. tsunami says at 1:37 pm, June 11th, 2008

my friends, you must read between the lines of mccain’s
words to see what he is really thinking. do not focus
on the print. focus on what is between the print.

  49. Big Al1317: I was a lot better off twenty years ago than I am now. I played all day with my friends, napped often and got piggyback rides from my older brother. Good times.

Didn’t realize Carter had been President in 1988 though.

He just won the heart of every woman in America.

  51. V572625694 says at 1:47 pm, June 11th, 2008

AngryBlakGuy: When a GI goes to Iraq, he gets maybe $50K/year in salary and goodies, and it costs the gummint maybe $125K/year out-of-pocket (don’t even think about pensions, veterans’ benefits, etc.) The Army trains this guy to be soldier, he serves maybe two enlistments, gets out, goes to work for Blackwater, and they pay the same guy $200K/year, plus their overhead which is maybe 120%, so the total delivered cost of a mercenary/contractor is $440K/year. So yeah, Blackwater does some killing, but it’s all about money.

  52. rhubarbpie1 says at 1:55 pm, June 11th, 2008

Johnny boy declared the surge working last year, so I guess the 52 U.S. deaths in April was just a temporary blip. But thank God we’re never leaving — we need to have bases close to our next target.

  53. Kingbee says at 2:00 pm, June 11th, 2008

Delicious: Chocolate and nylons worked for the Greatest Generation, but things have changed — there is no DoD-approved sexual currency for our WOMEN in uniform! Flashlights and pocketknives?

  54. AfghanVet says at 2:09 pm, June 11th, 2008

    V572625694: Maybe.

An junior enlisted soldier with hazardous duty pay, family pay and the like probably makes about $50k, but officers and higher ranking NCOs can make over $100k while in a combat zone.

The thing about Blackwater is they save their employee spots for only the best trained soldiers who come out of SOCOM and the like. Many, if not most, of the fodder they foist on the government are 1099 contract employees who may make up to about $150k IF they do a full one-year tour and their are NO benefits involved. This is the dirty little secret that your mall security guard become mercenary finds out about 3 months in.

As a 1099 contractor you are basically a sub-contractor to Blackwater and so when you get shot up or killed, they have NO obligation to support you. It is completely up to the 1099 contractor to secure insurance and the like via their pay. So, Blackwater does even better as they probably do slap a 100% markup on their 1099 person and profit comes from deducting the cost of training and transportation.

Here is the real kicker…even better for Blackwater is the fact that 1099 contractors are INDEPENDENT contractors, which means if they…say…shoot a bunch of innocent civilians then Blackwater is not really to blame as they are a sub and not the prime.

  55. AngryBlakGuy says at 2:26 pm, June 11th, 2008

AfghanVet: …I believe the 1099 contractor loop hole was plugged earlier this year(don’t quote me). Because Blackwater and other contractors were using it to avoid paying federal taxes on their employees.

  56. Dr. Spaceman says at 2:31 pm, June 11th, 2008

    German IED’s are well engineered.
Japanese IED’s are smaller, but more efficient.

Of course McCain doesn’t want to leave and thinks everything is just peachy-keen over thar’… When he went to Iraq and had 100 heavily-armed soldier escorts taking him to the Green Zone Baskin Robbins, he got some free ice cream in a tiny cup… for free, people! Why don’t you want Iraqis to have free ice cream samples?

  59. AfghanVet says at 3:20 pm, June 11th, 2008

AngryBlakGuy: Unless the changed the FAR, ain’t nothing changed.

  60. Rock Ripsnort says at 7:15 pm, June 11th, 2008

Feel free to correct me on this (like I have to tell that to you folks), but our bases in Germany and Japan were to fuck w/ the Soviet Union, right? Well, obviously our bases in Iraq will be to fuck w/ Iran, but since we’ll already be bombing them by then, why bother?
