State GOP Chair Claims McCain Is 'Kind Of Like Jesus'
Some dingbat state Republican leader says John McCain is "kind of like Jesus." Because they were both born 2,000 years ago? No! It's because, according to Georgia Republican Party chairwoman Sue Everhart, John McCain never denounced the United States when he was a war prisoner -- just like Christ, when he was in 'Nam. Ha ha, but McCain did denounce the United States. Explore the idiocy, after the jump.
Today's Atlanta Journal Constitution offered this nonsense:
"John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross," Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. "He never denounced God, either."
Everhart was praising McCain for never denouncing the United States while he was being tortured as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.
"I'm not trying to compare John McCain to Jesus Christ, I'm looking at the pain that was there," she said.
Ugh, where to start? How about the last quote, in which the dingbat says she's not trying to compare Walnuts to Jeebus, even though that's exactly what she did.
Then, there's the whole fiction that McCain never denounced the United States for its war against the Vietnamese. Here's what the International Herald Tribune 's profile of McCain says:
As a propaganda measure, Hanoi offered to release McCain immediately -- leapfrogging his fellow prisoners of war, who were usually freed according to their order of capture. McCain refused to comply; in consequence,he was tortured and forced to sign a statement denouncing US policy.
