Stupidity Shocker: Only 10% Of Voters Think Obama's Muslim

Guess who's coming to Ramadan? Oh, I guess not him.Only one in ten voters thinks Barack Obama is a Muslim, according to a new poll that is kind of encouraging. We figured the number would be closer to 70%, because this is a nation of imbeciles. As we're pretty sure the "Barry Hussein's a Muslim" demographic is unlikely to vote for a black man anyway, the Obama campaign can probably write this news off as an Improbable Victory and get back to shaming Hillary out of the race by saying it's okay if she stays in the race.

"Conservatives, less educated voters and white evangelical Protestants are likelier to believe Obama is Muslim, as are people from the South, the Midwest and rural areas, the poll showed."

No fucking kidding.

  • this will all be cleared up by the RNC when they begin the 24/7 "Jeremiah Wright Is Obama's African VooDoo Preacher" on Fox News.

  • He will be defeated by the massive donations of the pork lobby... mmmm... barbeque.

  • @Tawmn: Speaking of pork, do Muslim parents give their kids piggyback rides?

  • Out here in God's country we know a Muslin when we see one, you goddam hippies.

  • The real question is "What percentage responded with 'Not as far as I know...'?"

  • Just another example of Clinton attacks boomeranging back: their blowing up the Rev. Wright thing only served to reinforce that Barry goes to God church AND pulled down Hillz's positive rating. They should have said that Wright was Barry's imam. Who's running things over there?

  • Wait, I thought he was a Canadian.

  • People are worried about mis-attribution of Obama's religion, when they forget that probably 40% of Americans don't even know what a Muslim IS.

  • I hope the White House chef can cook bean pies. They love them some bean pies.

  • This means, the American public is starting to wake up to the fact that Muslims aren't confined to airplanes, but can walk around, plain as day, right on the ground we walk on. I call this report a 'tremendous success'.

  • I thought he was Mexican. Then again, I do surf political blogs drunk.

  • Wait, not all black people are Muslims?

  • Read further in the story and you'll see it turns out that 40% of the 90% who thought he was Muslim thought the question was whether he was Muslin and replied, "That black feller surely ain't no pillowcase." Back to worrying.

  • 10-20 percent of the population will believe anything as long as your repeat it enough. I just spread the rumor to ten of my co-workers that McCain was Frankenstein and five of them met me in the parking lot with torches and pitchforks.

  • @Eac_o_System: How can that be if they never learned how to land?

  • But McCain is a Mexican! What are they every going to do? Pat Robertson 2008!!!!

  • You laugh now? The day will come when the other 90% realize we were right.

That cocaine-injecting, weed-snorting towel-hat is going to suicide-bomb Hillary at the Democratic Convention if he doesn't get his Koran-kissing way.

  • ...by far the most hilarious and disturbing aspect of this Muslim crap is the fact that people who believe it will 9 times out of 10 talk about Rev. Jerimiah Wright in the SAME sentence. I mean really do these people have even 2 brain cells to wipe their azz with.

  • So, he's a radical Muslim turrist, a Luo Tribesman, a firebrand Black Panther...

    He's a uniter!

  • @AngryBlakGuy: wiping ass w/ brain cells = strange and awesome mental image.

Every time I read one of these stories, I'm conflicted over whether to beg you all to come down South and help me redeem it from the backwoods idiots (it's beautiful country! For realz!) or advocate for secession and then get the hell out.

  • Not taken into account was that this poll was conducted by Americans for Americans. The margin of error is at least 50%.

  • When asked, "Well, what about Barack HUUUUUSSSAAAANNNNNEEEEEE Obama," 59% of the respondents said "Wait, is that another guy?" to which the pollster says "Sure is" whereupon they change their answer, and rightly so.

  • @feelclose:

And the confidence factor is zero.

  • @Harbls: What?? He is not Muslin? I knew there was no cottin picking connection, but I was banking on Muslin....sheesh.

  • The ten percent of voters that think Obama is a Muslim are a subset of the forty percent of voters that wear "eye heart cunt tree music" shirts and think Hillary is a witch.

  • How many of them think that he is a GAY muslim? Just me?

  • @feelclose: No, the poll was outsourced and the respondents were actually all from Upper Volta.

  • I heard he's a closet Unitarian.

  • "Conservatives, uneducated voters and white Protestants are likelier to believe Obama is Muslim, as are carnies, Plymouth Horizon owners, and folks who have lost a toe."

  • Guys, you've got to consider that most of these people have probably seen at least one news report dispelling the rumor of Obama's Islamic faith. They probably also think that the mainstream media is lying to them. I mean, face it: these are the same people who believe that Evolution is a conspiracy by the scientific establishment to weaken belief in God and thus promote gay marriage, and who also believe that global warming is a theory promoted by Satan to question man's God given dominion over Creation. Basically, these people are (just) stupid... they're willfully ignorant borderline schizophrenics.

  • well now wait just a dang minute. not all conservatives, evangelicals and rural southerners are idiot mutants who would still vote for Bush, but as the old saw goes, all idiot mutant bushies are, genrally speaking, conservative southern evangelicals. as someone from the south, I think the potent mix of brain fogging religion and corporate whorism causes people to retreat into a reflexive authoritarianism, and, for those not paying attention, that means they like to follow, obey orders and question those who don't. now this can be a good thing if you are german and it's 1939, but the hopeful side of me wants to believe 'mericans are better than that. of course my hopeful side died with the unrecognized presidential elections of Gore and Kerry. so, yeah, Obama is a muslim in the same way that Bush had more Nam cred than an actual decorated Nam war hero. never mind that McCain sought the endorsement of the jew and catholic hating Hagee. he's so white and right wing, no way he's muslim, as far as we know, that is.

  • Yes, but can he play basketball? Yes - he - can!

  • @Serolf Divad: Perhaps.
But I suggest a great many folks who give it up to telephone pollsters have only scant knowledge of who candidates are.
Watching news or reading newspapers? Ha!

Hey, turn up that song! Toby Keith's singin' the Taliban song!

    (Shock'n Y'all)

  • @Serolf Divad:

"Guys, you've got to consider that most of these people have probably seen at least one news report dispelling the rumor of Obama's Islamic faith"

Sorry, but no, I don't. They are more likely to have made appointment television with Judge Judy than a newscast.

To wit: (or, "twit"): A few weeks ago NPR interviewed some nice lady in Texas before the primary, who was choosing between Hillary and 'some young guy'. She couldn't come up with a name or any other defining characteristic, yet, wouldn't vote for him due to 'lack of experience'. WTF? You know nothing about a person but have an opinion of their experience? Sorry, but the people currently suffering the most under Bush voted for him overwhelmingly and half still think he's great.

  • when he said spiritual mentor, he meant that him and that muslim cleric jeremiah wright prayed together 5 times a day for allah to guide their jihad against hillary, at least as far as i know.

  • 10% of Americans probably don't even know how to tie their own shoelaces, so this is pretty encouraging.

  • I'm really pleased that it's only 10% especially since according to Nicholas Kristof at the New York Times 20% of Americans believe that the sun revolves around the earth.

  • @sarcasticusername:

"Spiritual mentor"? "Muslim cleric"? That sounds far too obvious for some Hillsbot dirty hit.

They could use a rather neutral term that sets off subconscious fears, call Wright the "Radical Cleric Jeremiah Wright", technically there's no mention of islam, but when people think "Radical Cleric", they'll think Obama's some kind of Moqtada al-Sadr supporter

  • We're all going to feel like fools when trying to remember which way to turn to Mecca, and these poor 10% are locked up in Gitmo. At least, that's what my Inbox tells me...

  • It's always refreshing to see the rednecks outdoing themselves time and again. First they gave us Bush in 2000 and 2004. If that was an example of being stupidly wrong, this is even bigger. I like it.

What disappoints me is that only 10% remain true to the old tradition: stupid is as stupid does. There used to be a whole lot more of them when they elected Bush. What happened? Did most of the die? Having learned from their mistakes and getting smarter is just unthinkable for this bunch.

  • @kudzu: I think polls like this are becoming more and more skewed, as more of the young and affluent don't respond to polls - their cell phones are not listed - and many of the conservatives, less educated and white evangelical Protestants rural voters in my hometown won't talk to the liberal Jew-controlled media and their skewed polls.

  • This is shocking only if less people think Hillary is Muslim.

  • @jagorev: 10% of those americans don't realize their problem is that they don't have shoes.

  • a) All I care about is how many think he's a muslim AND that his preacher is a racist. Those are the people I want to meet.

    b) I actually met a guy who thinks Obama is a Muslim. He said "he says he's a Christian, but no Christian I know would take his oath of office on the Koran." So apparently there's some confusion with Keith Ellison going on. Next he said, "if Obama is elected, we'll have a genuine Al Quaeda operative in the White House." Seriously.

  • @PattyCake - the polls are skewed, but not like you think, here's how, first of all phone polls have computer generated numbers, doesn't matter if it's not listed anywhere - trust me, i used to have a crappy job working for the bastards (sorry i was just trying to pay the bills)
second - most people who actually answer questions are white, not rich, but not the really poor - they don't have phones!

  • oh yeah and the poor often work nights, when most of those polls are done

  • @southerndem:
That motherfucker needs to CTRL-ALT-DEL his fucking life.

  • The not so fine print is that 1/3 didn't know his religion. Interpreted another way, roughly 40% of those interviewed don't know he's Christian. That's almost half. I doubt the same number would have held for McCain or Clinton (would have been a good control study).

At the end of the day, it's still sad that this is even an issue...

  • @jagorev: I actually don't know how to tie my shoes but I do know that Obama is not muslim. I never manage to fit in anyplace!

  • @southerndem: Your friend got the same email forwarded to him that I got last week from a lol cats type acquaintance who lives in rural PA. I naturally assumed it was because she was a Walnuts! supporter and wrote back to her saying the swearing in on the Koran was a lie and so forth. I was surprised to get an email right back saying that she hated Bush and was voting for Hilz. @heathen: I answer the zogby polls on the computer and have been for about four years now. I have never been able to convince anyone of any age or point of view to sign up to do the same or even look over my shoulder while I answer questions about Nascar and Born Agains. I think the polls are not as useful as just calling my 85 year old mother in Arizona and asking her who is going to win. She says McCain because Democrats beat each other up instead of beating up Republicans.

  • @Rottenart: Not a uniter, but one who will return us to the Caliphate of Amīr al-Mu'minīn, aka Lew Alcindor.

  • Just a report from the field to back up the story- saw the following written on the wall of a truck stop in Lowell, IN:

    "OBAMA IS MUSLUM, NO VOTE"

    sic and sick.

  • Haven't there been constant polls in this past week asking if Obama is Muslim? Isn't this on some Karl Rove shit?

  • Though most of John McCain's first GE ad (profile) focuses mostly on the "no surrender" message, the tagline "The American President, Americans have been waiting for" seems targeted toward the Muslim-believing, patriotism-questioning audience.

PS) I saw the ad twice on Monday night, so it's really running.

  • @BugtussleBobby: Some folk'll never lose a toe, and then again some folk'll.

  • The Obama-as-Muslim fib is a small fry as far as Big Lies go. Remember the Saddam 9/11 connection that some rednecks STILL USE to justify this lucrative war? It will never die. It was up to 70 percent in september 03, which is pretty much all of middle america and some of the fatter, pastier city dwellers to boot. The right wing wrong machine keeps rolling out new batches of BS as recently as this month in their NY Suns and Front Page mags. Ho, hum. 10% won't get you an illegal war! Sell it, Peepz.

  • Y'all don't pronounce it right. He's a "MUZ-LUM." I'm sure if you repoll the number will be higher.

  • @jagorev:
    Remember, velcro is your friend:

  • Whatever, Hillary's a Scientologist.

  • So did these mouth breathing NASCAR lovin' rednecks indicate whether or not being a Muzlum was a good thing or a bad thing? Presidency wise?

  • "Conservatives, less educated voters and white evangelical Protestants are likelier to believe Obama is Muslim, as are people from the South, the Midwest and rural areas, the poll showed."

The same morons who voted for Bush the last two elections.
In the vernacular of the day..."Who could have predicted?"

  • @2goatsforonecow: They are pretty sure it means he will kill and eat all their children. Whether or not they consider that a good thing, I could not say.

  • Based on the accompanying artwork, I'd say that Obama's not a Muslim at all. Instead, he's the most dangerous kind of "undocumented alien".... a "Grey." Sent by our new ET overlords "To Serve Man." Mmmmm... BBQ!!!

  • @DaDerga: Wait, you're saying Hillary isn't a witch? Well, that's just great. What am I supposed to do with this bonfire now?

  • @Windbag City: that creates some interesting anagrams, including "A Lesbians Mom Ovum Out" and "A Viable Mums Moot Onus"

  • @Lazy Media: well, she is a Monster, right? So maybe you can keep the bonfire.

  • What percentage think that Obama did 9/11?

  • @bill_tx: and what percentage think his name is Osama?

  • And how many of these self-same ignorant pig fuckers still believe Saddam had something to do with 9/11?

  • @Lazy Media: Well, I understand she keeps lots of weenies on ice so maybe she could join you for a cook out?

  • Had they asked, 10% of Americans would also have said that he was a Jew, a Satanist, a Wiccan, and an atheist. It would be the same 10%.

  • @Doglessliberal:

    Hmmmm. 75-80%?

  • The same 10% probably think John McCain is only 40.

  • True story... I was registering voters at a rock concert Saturday and a real skinny dude with sunglasses and thin t-shirt approached me.

I asked if he was registered to vote.

    He said, "Yeah. I'm 21."

    I said, "Cool."

He asked me who I was voting for.

    I said, "Obama."

    He said, "I'm sorry."

    I said, "Because...?"

He said, "Because I think he's an undercover terrorist."

I said, "What has he done to convince you of that?"

His voice got low as he nearly whispered, "His last name is... OBAMA."

Of course I should have realized he was doped up on heroin 'cause it was 40 degrees and rainy, plus he had visible residue on his left nostril, but hey, I don't like to judge people...

  • 10%? That's what, 20, 25 million people?

  • Was there a box for "I don't know who this man is?" because there's got to be about 10% for that category, too.

By the way, Ken, 'Improbable Victory' yielded my second inappropriate snort in class.
