Even though Barack Obama took New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg out to breakfast a few months ago, gave a big fancy speech about Alexander Hamilton in Bloomberg's back yard, and not-so-subtly hinted that he would appreciate at least a steak dinner in exchange for the reacharound, Bloomberg still refuses to go steady with Obama.
Instead the former Democrat and former Republican maverick Bloomberg has decided to stay "neutral" and not endorse any Presidential candidate. It's a tough line for him to walk: Hillary Clinton is from his home state, Barack Obama bought him breakfast, and John McCain belongs to the political party he most recently abandoned.
Ah, but who cares? Until the Voters Have Spoken (in Pennsylvania, one million years from now) all this pointless speculation can keep alive the crazy dream that Michael Bloomberg has some sort of influence, or future, in national politics.

Yeah. Bloomy totally loves the rumor and speculation. He just wants to be loved... is that so wrong?
Must be difficult being a billionaire that no one pays attentiion to.
My own lame theory: The cable news gremlins (led by that little ewok Wolf Blitzer) are just setting this up so they can come back in a month and make another storyline out of "Sen. OBAMA, WHY ARE YOU REJECTING MR. BLOOMBERG FROM THE TICKET?"
The longer he holds out, the longer people talk about him. He sees what happens when someone endorses-- they get attention for about 2 days and then the media goes back to speculating when Gore and Edwards will endorse.
Not a superdelegate = not news.
McCain's going to get laughed out of four of the five boroughs in November, and that's the only place Bloomberg's got any sway.
Whatever happened with the panel he was on with David Boren? I hate being in flyover terr.
Bloomberg '08. I still call it
...Knuck is that you?!
How many whores do you think he has slept with?
@freshyill:
The media is Bloomberg's main constituency. He's the perfect candidate for technocrat-loving effete liberals. Blah.
My favorite bit of Bloomberg nonsense:

Yes, Bloomberg should start a second career as a traveling mayor-for-hire, helping out less fortunate cities like Detroit and Baltimore. Because that would go over well with black, urban electorates!
He's holding out for 2012 to run with Hillary?
Bloomberg is out of his mind. Dem -> Rep -> Ind. No one's gonna pick him from the 2 major Parties. If he wants a go, he'll have to start a third Party with his dough.
He just wants attention and love. Maybe he should take a lesson from his fellow ny politician and get a hooker. That would get him plenty of attention and put him on the national stage ready to run for prez. It's kinda like when other politicians put out a book.
He's not really a known quantity in approximately 98% of the states.
Is Bloomberg creepy enough to be Obama's Cheney? I mean, in a Democratic sort of way ...
aside from the fact that he banned smoking in bars i have to say bloomberg is by far the best nyc mayor i have ever experienced (granted i had to live with 8 years of giuliani). i would vote for him for president.
oh, and there used to be rumors that he liked the cock.
Why is MLK Jr.'s apparition getting in a staring match with Bloomberg in that picture?
@metropolitan: Come on ... liked the cock? Please.
Don't you mean love the cock?
@NBAWRITER1: The question is... Is Lieberman creepy enough to be McCain's Cheney? Me thinks so (well the creepy part anyway).
I love our dapper Mayor. He has licenses to fly jet planes, helicopters, and during a blizzard he drove a snowplow. He exudes an air of Zeppo-like SPREZZATURA.
@Tawmn:
mccain/lieberman is my dream ticket! they would run the most maverick old man campaign ever!
@freshyill: Bloomberg actually has a lot of sway with the financial types in Westchester and Connecticut, and maybe, just maybe, a Bloomberg endorsement could sway some NY/CT establishment Democrats to switch to Obama.
@metropolitan: Kinda like the "Grumpy Old Men" movies.
@Pupster: Demo, Rino, Indo. Which one makes him crazy?
@norbizness: does Jersey count as a state? I swear half the population spends half their time in Manhattan. Connecticut is pretty close to that also. Not sure about the rest.
@jagorev: True, but both New York and Connecticut already had their primaries, and they're both reliably blue in November. An endorsement by Bloomberg would have helped Obama a lot in the New York primary.
I want to give Bloomberg some credit and say he's an admirable, pragmatic independent, but let's face facts, all the pragmatism in the world doesn't means shit in the upstate boonies when you're the mayor of the big city that steals their precious water and coddles the illegals.
@freshyill: I honestly had no idea how wide a gap there was between the Big Apple and all the rest of NY. There's some long standing disgust and hatred simmering up there. Plus, Syracuse is evidently a big shithole.
@NBAWRITER1: Barry doesn't need Bloomy to be his Cheney. That's what obamacheney.com is for.
@AngryBlakGuy: I'm still waiting for him to come out of the closet.
@Rottenart: It's more like, the rest of the state hates the city, and the city heard something about there being a state with the same name as their city.
The last thing that elf needs is to be haunted by Hillary Clinton. I say he allows Obama to woo him until the last minute.
