An emotionally fragile Attorney General Michael Mukasey addressed audiences at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco yesterday and nearly wept at the thought of the American government having its precious spying freedoms taken away. He also observed that Muslims, and not followers of a strict Protestant religious sect, deserve the government's hairy eyeball.
"The threat is coming from Islamist extremism. It's not coming from Calvinism," he pointed out. As a result, the Justice Department has ceased raids on Calvinist churches, and the TSA no longer pulls aside suspiciously Calvinist-looking airline passengers for extra pat-downs.
Attorney General Gets Emotional In Calling for Surveillance Power [New York Sun]

Oh, shit! Does this mean the Calvino-fascists are planning to re-unite the Calviniphate?
I dunno, you ask me, predestination is just as scary as jihad. Just sayin'.
So, a phone call from Iraq triggered 9/11? How long has Justice known about this?
I didn't realize that the entire point of the Bush Administration was to get as many people on the "10 Shittiest Attorneys General of All Time" list maintained by FHM Magazine.
...honestly, were there ever raids on Calvinist churches? I mean who's next Jehovah Witness's!?
"he TSA no longer pulls aside suspiciously Calvinist-looking airline passengers for extra pat-downs"
Too bad for those Calvinists - I hear that the TSA pat-downs are the closest thing they get to sex.
I heard they're going to try the wooden shoe bomber in a military tribunal.
Calvinists have already invaded this country once.
Will we learn nothing from 11/11 (1620)
Did he say anything about Anabaptists? Cuz they're fucking nuts.
"We knew that there has been a call from someplace that was known to be a safe house in Afghanistan and we knew that it came to the United States. We didn't know precisely where it went."
At that point in his answer, Mr. Mukasey grimaced, swallowed hard, and seemed to tear up as he reflected on the weaknesses in America's anti-terrorism strategy prior to the 2001 attacks.
That wasn't emotion. Every now and then, what's left of his heart tries to crawl up his throat and beat the living crap out of his brain.
Do we have a response from the Hobbesians ?
@Dr_Feelquestionable: Well, no one asked your reprobate soul about it. Go read Lord Byron and leave Zion alone.
Man, the Presbyterians are going to be pissed.
Well, in Iowa City tomorrow the threat will be coming from Westboro Baptist Church, where they'll be protesting the funeral of a family killed by the father.

I take this threat to my city very seriously.
@norbizness: Just wanted to thank you for using "attorneys general" instead of "attorney generals"
Was this dumb trip paid for by taxpayers? Do taxpayers need to be paying for trips by the Attorney General to private clubs all the way across the country? NO. If this was funded by the government, Mukasey, or whatever his name is, is a hypocrite--he needs to be policing such government waste like his dumb trips across the country. Ridiculous.
It's not Calvin I'm so worried about ... it's that fucking Hobbs. I don't trust that cat, bouncing into the frame from seemingly nowhere.
I'd double Gitmo to waterboard that fucker.
What about the Swedenborgians? They're a nasty lot.
Oh, if only we'd been able to listen in on that call from Afghanistan to somewhere in the U.S. Then we'd have tossed on the giant backlog pile of untranslated random intercepts, and six months after 9/11, some NSA drone would have had some 'splainin' to do.
I thought it was the phone call (with a big fucking red alert attached) from FBI field agents to FBI headquarters which DOJ ignored, thereby managing to totally ruin everybody's day on 9/11. Except for Rudy's, of course. Guess I heard wrong.
Calvins... or nothing at all.
@FloraWay: I like Iowa City. Much too cool a town to have to put up with a pack of halfwits like that. Give 'em hell.
I think its a mistake to overlook what went on in Geneva in 1553. Calvinists were burning people at the stake, man. That's worse than beheading in my book....
Our nation's "Top Cop" is a whiny little bitch. Just another tough talking poofter like John Wayne and W. Someone change his license plate while he's inside the HeManWomanHater's Club of SF.
@Advocatus_Diaboli: but remember, if you don't enjoy the pat down, then it doesn't count as a sin. so your redemption depends on you being as frigid as possible...
Don't cry Mr. Mukasey -- you can monitor all my phone calls if only that stops you from weeping in public. And please don't gnash your teeth every time you see a puppy that's not being thrown off a cliff. They're going as fast as they can.
Gotta run; making my hajj to Geneva now (walk around the financial district three times in a new Brooks Brothers suit).
let's get the Buddhists next...they never seem to get any political flak, those hippie, nirvana-loving, KOOKS!
Pity White Gonzo.
@spike2131: yeah, what gives? wait until the new caliphate of geneva is set up. well, if it is geneva, wisconsin and includes beer, bratwurst, cheese (including the healthy fried cheese curds) and watching the packers, then it might be ok.
then why can't we persecute all those scientologists actor types along with the muslims... they just need to search their baggage for the used frozen orange juice cans....
The Constitution is weeping, too.
@jagorev: Are you an editor, too?
This guy needs to be psychologically evaluated. I watched the confirmation hearings (while drinking heavily) but I still remember the substance. It's one of the greatest examples of lying and fraud since...I don't know, any of the other Bush appointees to office. And to think Schumer was fawning and masturbating all over the chamber for his confirmation.
Let's take down Cromwell and his Puritan rabble as well, while we're at it.
@denniskempton: "lying" "fraud" ... and lots more going on at Stephen Johnson's EPA. I so want these lying bastards to spend their retirements testifying before congress or in court and explain why it was ok for them to destroy the country.
Calvinists? Does that mean Hobbes is an elder or a deacon?
This is uncanny. I was just thinking the other day about how colonial religious strains of Quakers and Puritan Calvinists has evolved into something unrecognizable from, say, the doctrine of Predestination and what Max Weber called the 'work ethic' (before the internet was invented).
Speaking of Justice Department shenanigans, Don Siegelman is free!

@Truculent: Would make a nice complement to Cheney's upcoming Stitch-the-head-back-on-Charles-I ceremony.
Is this a coded message to those Covenant psychotics out west to break out their uzis and hand grenades, because any student of People Magazine can tell you that the second worst terrorist attack on American soil did, in fact, come from sick fuck "patriots" whose theology did derive from Calvin. Dumbass.
So, racial profiling is official policy now?
A smokescreen, because terror did not come from Calvinists, but through them. The origins of Reformaniacalism is traced back to Martin Luther, and his calling Papal Bull about their Diet of Worms, causing a response of offensive self-defens by the Holy Roman Emperor, who brought the heavy artillery to bear, using a WMD: The Papal Cannon.
{Allein} durch den Glauben? Heretical addenda from a ravening radical.
Hasn't this guy ever read Calvin and Hobbes? That Calvin kid is a psycho. Imagine what he's grown up to be!
Does he know the difference? Both believe in predestination!
