Nation Of Frauds

  • The American government engages a shady 22-year-old arms dealer out of Miami to supply munitions to Afghanistan, and then is shocked when the product he ships is old and in poor condition. No wonder things are going so well over there. [New York Times]
  • John McCain, the patron saint of lost causes, talks about how withdrawing from Iraq would leave "a stain on our character as a great nation." [Washington Post]
  • Sovereign wealth funds — investment funds run by nation-states like Dubai, Kuwait, and Singapore — own massive portions of some American companies. [Washington Post]
  • Whoopsy! The LA Times apologizes for a story linking Sean Combs to a 1994 attack on Tupac Shakur; the newspaper relied on "FBI documents" that turned out to be forged. The Smoking Gun figured this out in about 15 minutes. [Los Angeles Times, The Smoking Gun]
  • More polls prove that a prolonged Democratic contest is "tearing apart the party" by driving up negatives for both Clinton and Obama. With less than eight short months to go before the general elections, could either of these candidates possibly recover? [Wall Street Journal]
  • John McCain hopes to poach Democrats who are looking for an older, more warmongery candidate. [Politico]

  • Wasn't Miami where the government located a terrorist cell who used the FBI's money to buy cool sneakers or the like?

Hey, you missed an item. Spitzer was linked to another call girl agency by the NY Post. Sadly, it was mature and consenting women, so not half as interesting as a Republican scandal, still.

  • John McCain is so old even his metaphors are out of date. Ten years ago Bill Clinton taught us that early withdrawal leaves a stain.

  • Considering the ethics level of the average arms dealer, I'm surprised they didn't send Afghanistan water balloons and cap guns.

  • Can't believe you passed on this 'being black and charismatic and talking about hope and change doesn't mean you'll get anything done' story in the Times. [www.nytimes.com]

  • @magneticfields:
LOL, I love the idea of a state governor --or anyone who doesn't wear mirror shades and a sidearm, for that matter-- riding around in a Ford Crown Victoria.

  • For instance, the word "making" appears as "makeing" in both the "302s" and Sabatino's pro se court pleadings. Similarly, the authors also have difficulty with the word "during." It appears as "durring" in both sets of documents.

Just when I thought print journalism had reached its nadir...

  • i knew p.diddy did it!

  • I am beginning to seriously wonder whether either candidate CAN beat McCain in November. Just a month ago it seemed like a sure thing, but now, not so much.

I truly hope Hillary gets bounced out of the Senate altogether four years from now either way, but especially if her hubris costs the Dems the presidency that was so easily theirs.

  • withdrawing from Iraq would leave "a stain on our character as a great nation."

I notice he doesn't say "withdrawing early", implying that we can never, ever leave Iraq. Nice of him to admit his plan up front.

  • @Godless Liberal: Oh, piffle. This is just a product of paying too much attention to the process, which the vast, vast majority of people are not doing. The kerfuffle between Hillary and Obama will settle itself by June, and most voters will actually start thinking about the election in September, when they'll notice, "Hey, this McCain guy is old and wants us to stay in Iraq forever."

  • @Godless Liberal: Remember, It's March. People are liking McCain again only because he's been (relatively speaking) out of the news and the retarded american public can't remember anything but the last two weeks.

    Once we get to April,
    or May,
    or June,
    or July,
    or August,
    or September,
    or October
or even November McCain will be back in the news being his ol' WALNUTS! self and the retard wing of the Republican Party will want thier Mittens back, the retard wing of the Democratic Party will have forgotten Hillary, the retard independents will again be the swing voters, and the true retards will be writing in Ron Paul.

  • @Godless Liberal:"I am beginning to seriously wonder whether either candidate CAN beat McCain in November. Just a month ago it seemed like a sure thing, but now, not so much."

Worry not, dear G*dless One. Don't tell anyone, but the Dems have a [shhhh] "secret weapon." It's called John McCain. Once the Dem nominee is named, he will unleash this secret weapon in televised debates and the like. Once the electorate claps eyes and ears upon this incendiary device, they'll flock to the Dems like... um, like... well, in droves.

  • Someone just sent me this. I had forgotten a few of these, as has, apparently, the MSM: [nhfacts.com]

  • I'm thinking about a Michael Bay-directed movie concerning the 22-year-old arms dealer, starring the ubiquitous Shia LaBeouf. Unfortunately, the title Young Guns has already been taken, although by the time it's released in 2011 maybe everyone will have forgotten the Lou Diamond Phillips-laden original.

Re: The McCain Stain. It's funny how starting a war based on lies that have killed and displaced millions of Iraqis can be gotten out with a little SHOUT!, but actually acceding to the will of most Americans and Iraqis is indelible.

  • Wow, for the first time ever, Wonkette has actually made me feel better about the world.

  • @Godless Liberal: oh, give us time, we'll fix that.

  • @Doglessliberal:Timely catch, that. I particularly liked this part:

"This implausible tale, on top of other deceptions, prompted New York Times columnist William Safire to write on January 8, 1996, that "our first lady ... is a congenital liar."

So, given the timelines, when Hillaryous recently said that she had "ms.spoken" for the first time in twelve years, she was actually kinda telling the truth??? Because she hadn't lied since Safire called her a congenital liar 12 years ago??? Hurrah for Hillz. You go [away], grrrlfriend!!

So, Hillaryous is a congenital liar. Whereas hubby Bubba is merely a genital liar. Apparently, Bubba failed to heed the posey: Do not go genital into that, good Knight.

  • @Canuckledragger: I just cannot believe she skates along on the experience line and this stuff is out there, apparently unread. And I think *I* have drunk the Luo Kool Aid. Apparently, a lot of people have drunk something stronger from her camp.

  • @Canuckledragger: and your last paragraph there is just fabulous. "Genital liar"=great.

  • @Godless Liberal:

Yeah, if the election had been last month then Barack Obama would be king Yew Nighted States of Amerikkka. But it wasn't so he's not. Yet.

  • @Doglessliberal: I'm sure the Republicans haven't forgotten.

  • Has anybody ever seen the young arms dealer [cache.jezebel.com] and Dean Ween (L) [www.timeout.com] in the same room?

  • @FloraWay: ah, yes, we keep forgetting them because the intraparty slashing and burning is so over the top right now. McCain is hiding in the bushes (sort of like Dick Cheney, except less inhuman) waiting to emerge with the arsenal ready and preloaded.

  • MCaine seems to miss the fact that going to Iraq in the first place was a great stain on America. Abu Graib, torture, the misplacing of shipping crates packed with hundred dollar bills, the use of willy peter in urban areas on civilians, government ordered kidnappings (forced rendition) the trashing of civil liberties and other obscenities just ice the cake. Leaving wouln't eradicate the stain, but putting some neocons in jail might.

  • @QueenBella:You say those like they're bad things. Why do you hate our freedumbs so much?

  • I'm afraid our national character has many stains on it already, despite repeated bleachings. If you look on the right side, you'll see the Phillipines gravy mark. Below that is the Bay of Pigs jam line and to the left is the Salvador Allende bloodstain. Below that is the Native American genocide coffee smear.

    And so it goes.

  • Dems could seriously LOSE. Dems should ASSUME they'll lose, and work from there. Repugs are.

  • Everyone knows the mysterious hobos, one of them the father of a famous actor, hid out on the grassy knoll, and, bankrolled by the mafia, anti-Castro Cubans and renegades in the federal government aligned with insurgent rebels in the vast military-industrial complex, killed that rapper.

  • "What's good for M & M Enterprises is good for the country."
    Lt. Milo Minderbinder

  • @Canuckledragger: It's true Abu Graib and the waterboarding and forced kidnappings are all very kinky. Nothing sexier than naked middle aged men pissing themselves, very homoerotic, along with the panties on the head thing. I'm well know to be rather deviant myself but them neocons are some twisted dudes.
