Tomorrow marks the fifth anniversary of our glorious Iraq War, and naturally there are those liberals who still want to stop Freedom while it's on the March. A whole slate of protests are planned for D.C. tomorrow, and they each have adorable little protest themes, like "Funk the War" and "March of the Dead." Some protesters will be violent, some will be invading your offices, some will just be. Taken as a whole, however, the planned riots should disrupt traffic just enough to convince the oily Fat Cats to end all Iraq wars immediately. After the jump, a memo with many or all of the planned protests.
- "Critical Mass": Cyclists will meet at 8:30 a.m. at Dupont Circle (P Street and 19th Street, NW). They will travel through downtown possibly riding south on Connecticut Avenue, NW to the White House. It has been their intent in the past to intentionally disrupt traffic.
- "Granny Peace Brigade Knit-in": A sit-in is planned for noon outside the Veterans Affairs office at 810 Vermont Avenue, NW. Violence is not likely and there should be minimal disruptions to routine activities.
- "Blockade the IRS": Participants will meet at 7:30 a.m. at McPherson Square Park and march south-southeast to the IRS headquarters at 1111 Constitution Ave. between 10th and 12th streets, NW. They will gather outside the main entrance at 8:00 a.m.
- "Disrupt the War Profiteers": Student groups and activists will converge upon the streets throughout the day to rally outside offices of large corporations such as ExxonMobil, Shell, Halliburton, Lockheed Martin, Bechtel and the IMF/World Bank. Violent actions are not expected but participants may attempt to enter buildings and disrupt routine activities.
- "Separate Oil and State": Participants will meet outside the American Petroleum Institute at 1220 L Street, NW at 13th Street. Starting time for this event is not yet available.
- "Veterans March for Peace": The march will begin at 9 a.m. at 7th Street, NW on the National Mall between Madison and Jefferson streets. Marchers will pass a variety of locations.
- "Funk the War": Similar to Disrupt the War Profiteers, student groups will converge on the K Street corridor. Participants will meet at Franklin Square Park (14th and K Streets, NW) at noon and travel down K Street.
- "March of the Dead": Dozens of activists will roam the city dressed in black representing those killed in the Iraq war. Minimal disruptions are likely.
- "The World Can't Wait": Anti-torture rally at 1:00 p.m. at Lafayette Square Park on H Street, NW at the White House.
- "March on DNC": Participants will gather at 5:00 p.m. at the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall and march to the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee at 430 S. Capitol Street, SE.
- In addition to the events listed above, other unannounced demonstrations are possible.
Given the current situation between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, "March on the DNC" sounds like the best idea ever. Ha ha, we're kidding — obviously nothing can top this "Granny Peace Brigade Knit-in."
Wonkette plans to check out some of this tomorrow, in stealth, so as not to be killed — some unruly factions will be after us. Be sure to check out our reporting from the front lines. It may not be the front lines of Iraq, but we each serve America in different ways.

Not forever... just for 100 years... or Hell, why not 1000 years!?
Ah yes, critical mass. *ahem*
I'm pretty sure those guys are just out to get some fresh air and exercise.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh ... looking at that picture ... it feels like 2003! Not this pruningly annoying 2008. I could stare at it forever.
I don't care what Barack Obama says, hope was alive then, when chimppeachment was on the table, Bush's cabinet as well as a fare amount of the Iraq War, disasters could have been adverted, and John Kerry was in and Nancy Pelosi's annoying chalkiness was nowhere to be had. Good times! :...-)
D.C. is sort of like the dream shopping mall for protesters isn't it?
In one nicely controlled compact space you've got the worlds greatest variety of locations and agencies to protest against or in support of, choosing from your comfort levels of political leaning / time commitment / danger / trendiness.
Baghdad's comin' to DC.
We have to fight the heartless bastards over here because they've never been over there.
Too bad all the kids think watching Colbert is protesting.
I am oh so profoundly confused by that picture. It is if Condi and Hills ran straight into each other.
March of the Dead? Damn, I was hoping for dressing up as zombie soldiers.
I'm waiting for the meta moments when some protesters' blockades prevent other protesters from getting to their blockades, resulting in brickbats between protesters.
"Judean People's Front? We're the People's Front of Judea!"
"Fucking Judean Peoples Front! Wankers!"
Condi's on the juice? What?
@Harbls:
I sez itz beforz and I sez it againz:
That's why I plan on protesting these protests.
Even if they say violence is not likely at the Granny Peace Brigade Knit-in, I think someone should probably take their needles away as precaution.
Just watch out for a knitting needle in the eye at the VA, eek!
@marcelparcells: Jinx!
I just heard that Bush is going to give a speech tomorrow in which he claims "it was all worth it."

I think that kind of temerity merits obnoxious political puppet shows, but maybe I'm old fashioned.
I love street theater/civil disobedience protests, and have participated in many myself. But my sense is that these aren't going to do shit to stop the war. The movement right now seems to completely lack heft. Get some unions to come out for a march. Or get a bunch of mayors to endorse it. Or the Methodists, or some other religious denominations (Besides Quakers and Unitarians, cuz everyone knows they're commies anyway). But having the same five hundred people protest twenty times this year instead of ten isn't going to change anything.
Back when I was in college, I always noticed that the leftist students were split up into at least two dozen little special-interest groups, while the rightists were all in the College Republicans. Though the campus environment was very liberal, and there were more politically active liberal students, the Republicans were the ones who could actually bring in notable speakers and organize big events, because they had figured out that one large group is better than several small ones. When it came right down to it, the liberals were ineffectual and unimpressive, because they never presented a united front.
I don't know why I'm reminded of that right now, I just have this weird feeling of deja vu.
Would DC PLEASE keep the critical mess people there? I am tired of being run over. I heard you have new concrete barriers for a holding pen.
could someone march on the dLc? also, I have a bright idea, march on the Rnc.
That picture is somehow racist. I just can't figure out how.
I don't see in the list where Michelle Bachman is going to parade around wearing nothing but a lightbulb bikini.
Someone get out there and find out!
(bring a camera)
@SayItWithWookies:
'We have to fight the heartless bastards over here because they've never been over there.'
perfect...well said and well played, Wookies! (...golf clap...)
@CumaeanSibyl: I think it has to do with 'liberals' being independent thinkers (with the emphasis on 'independent') whilst regressive right-winger Repugs are pretty much sheeple who will march in lockstep to the voice of their 'leaders' (see Hitler/ Nazis)
Men who protest with Code Pink are men who embarrass themselves being Hillary supporters.
And Elton John supporters.
Oy.
Stash da booze! Even if these strange people are really into hemp, we aren't to take any chances whatsoever!
@magneticfields: The point is not to stop the war, but to let the government know that the people don't buy the bullshit about the war. Wait. Oh, fuck.
These protests are secretly funded by the papier-mache industry.
Ah yes, the wonderful folks from Code Stupid ride again. They should have formed a coalition with the Judean Peoples' Front and the Spartacists long ago.
Pink is so last season...don't these ding dongs watch TV ?!? I mean really ! Or do they just tune into CNN when they could be watching Desperate, Next Top Model or Viva la Cha Cha in a Bikini. Get a new wardrobe, I am so bored !
