And All Us Mortals Struggle So

  • “We had a very nice place in Pennsylvania for many years before we relocated down here. However, the cost differential between Western PA and the MD/VA/DC area was quite a staggering shock to my own financial sensibilities.” [Metroblogging DC]
  • “About 50 demonstrators participated in the emotional rally Saturday morning. No protesters were arrested. Protester Marco Del Fuego says the group promotes a white supremacist agenda, like the Nazis.” [Examiner]
  • “Fifty medical workers — doctors, nurses, therapists and administrators among them — sat in a room at Walter Reed Army Medical Center gazing at a slide of Donald Duck on a screen.” [WP]
  • “So Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee, in order to protect students from their counselors’ ineptitude, says no more foreign talk until you’re a sophomore.” [why.i.hate.dc]
  • “When I fell back down to the ground, I rubbed my eyes and took a closer look again. At this point the hawk is staring at me and I could easily see from its eyes that it was telling me to back the
    fuck up.” [Prince of Petworth]

  • Gotta close that url tag there on the washington post url...

  • So, Walter Reed is officially going to provide Mickey Mouse style care?

Other item: House hunter wants to buy a house in Virginia and is shocked that the homes are still vastly overpriced. I'm sure next he'll be stunned to learn that Virginia has horrible traffic. He should also read the item describing the Nazi-like group holding it's convention in Herndon.

  • Let's have a little respect for Mickey, a wounded Vet himself. Why do you think he only has 4 fingers on each hand?

  • The nice thing about living in the DC area is you can go travel almost anywhere else and marvel at how inexpensive things are.

Yes, the same is true if you live in, say, New York, but the problem there is you tend to be a jackass about how wonderful your city is. Nobody brags about being from DC.

  • Re: Donald Duck

"Col. Patricia D. Horoho, commander of the Walter Reed health-care system, said the goal is to change the culture there. "When you enter the hospital, we want it to be the best experience possible," she said. "Disney fits that."

Obviously, Col Horoho has not paid hundreds of dollars to get into disney world only to stand in unending lines, pay through the nose for a bottle of water or something to eat then get shuffled out the gate like a herd of cattle at the end of the day. Disney experience , indeed.
