This morning, Demrats and Republicans in Congress came to a tentative agreement on an economic stimulus package. Hosanna in the highest, everyone gets free jobs!
Maybe not that, but free money at least — between $300 and $1,200 per family in tax rebates. Personally, I want to forgo my check so the government can fund more Iraq Wars, but I can’t have everything. The Democrats agreed to drop increases in food stamps and unemployment benefits, and Republicans decided to let non-taxpayers get in on the rebate action as well. The Democrats also dropped a rider to legalize fetuses as sex toys while the Republicans abandoned theirs to have all Mexicans shot.
