The two main policy reasons that Walnut’s campaign faltered last year were: his strong and continuing support for the war; and his commitment to a relatively reasonable immigration policy. Despite running to the right on nearly every other issue, McCain clung desperately to the center on immigration reform as people screamed at politicians to end the scourge of (brown) people coming here for a better life. But now that nothing’s happening on immigration on the Hill, McCain’s having his own little surge despite the occasional heckler, as pictured above. His response, naturally, is that he’s cool with illegal immigrants that send their sons to war and everyone else should be, too, and he’s applauded. They really are taking away American jobs, aren’t they?
