Guns and National Parks: The Perfect Combination
Since the early 1980s, the federal government has required that gun owners must render their guns inaccessible while in our great nation's national parks, since some yahoos that are obviously, totally gone by now kept taking potshots at various animals and/or other park users. That being the case, 47 of your United States Senators think it's about time that the yokels got their bald eagle shooting possibilities back .
Those Senators (39 Repugs and 8 Demrats) sent a letter to Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne to get rid of those regs because they are totally interfering with the second amendment rights of law-abiding 'Murkans to have their weapons at the ready at all times. Notably, you don't actually have to disassemble it or anything, you just can't have it lying on the fucking passenger seat, but Congress shall pass no law, blah, blah, blah, why, is that the voice of Charlie Heston I hear in the background?
Jerry Case, the National Park Service's chief of regulations and special park uses, notes that national parks have a lower crime rate than other, similarly sized communities -- not that he's allowed to say it's because drunken yahoos can't have their boom-sticks, but it so totally is. It's probably too much to hope for that they'd just shoot each other.
