California Sues EPA, EPA Says 'Meh'
Recently, the EPA ruled that -- despite Clean Air Act provisions that give California the right to have more stringent regulations than the federal government -- California wouldn't be permitted to regulate carbon dioxide emissions. The EPA said that the new CAFE standards in the energy bill were enough regulations for everyone.
EPA lawyers also said that California needs "compelling and extraordinary" conditions to regulate beyond the CAFE standards, because the state supposedly isn't uniquely affected by global warming. But this is America, so California is suing. Not that the EPA cares, because by the time anything happens with the lawsuit, it'll be a new Administration and someone else's problem anyway.
