Scooter Becomes Nation's 2,200,000th Prisoner!
How awesome is America? We're No. 1 when it comes to locking up our citizens. Take that, France!
Once again, the United States prison population is the biggest of the industrialized world, while we're also tops in the percentage of our people we keep behind bars. There are 2.2 million prisoners, with 1.6 million of those belonging to the state or federal prisons and the remainder apparently sharing small-town jail cells with Otis the Drunk.
Today, Dick Cheney's former top aide Scooter Libby proudly joined the rapidly growing population. Scooter is Federal Inmate #28301-016, according to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. Irve "Scooter" Lewis Libby is a somewhat rare prisoner-to-be in that he's white and from the Bush Administration, which is generally immune to earthly laws -- six of ten U.S. inmates are Hispanic or Black, while all but fourteen of them are poor and uneducated.
