Senators Are People Too
Just like us, senators are always trying to sneak out of work early, so they can hit the road and get out of here. Per Al Kamen:
Historic moments in the Senate . . . Sen.Charles E. Grassley(R-Iowa), last week seeking floor time at 2: 50 p.m. to speak on Susan Schwab 's nomination to be U.S. trade representative:"Mr. President, I don't care whether they pay attention or not. I want to get out of this town, so let me give my speech."
And just like us, senators deal with their troubles by crying and sleeping. From remarks made byJohn McCainearlier today, at a lunch in New York:
After I lost to President Bush in South Carolina, I slept like a baby. Sleep two hours, wake up and cry. Sleep two hours, wake up and cry.
Crying and sleeping -- add some booze to the mix, and that's pretty much our life.
