McKinney Watch: Assault Tha Police (w/ "Closed Fist")
The AtlantaJournal-Constitutiongot the police report for the McKinney incident.
The official police report on Rep. Cynthia McKinney's clash with a Capitol Hill police officer three weeks ago says the DeKalb County congresswoman struck the officer "in his chest with [a] closed fist."
Ok, "struck" with a "closed fist" in the chest might be cooler than hitting with a cell phone (which, truth be told, had already been done earlier that same week), but we're guessing it wasn't a barroom brawl-style patented knockout punch, coming, as it was, from a 50-year-old woman.
Here's our question, then -- where the hell did the "stabbed with a cell phone" line come from? Right after the incident, remember, that was the most common description (though Hotline called it a "punch" right off the bat), and it was provided by... who? Not McKinney's camp, we're guessing ("stabbed" doesn't sound like the sort of language they'd use to minimize the incident), but it doesn't really make sense from the Cap Police either.
What we're getting at is: We don't trust cops. Never have, never will. Of course, McKinney acted irresponsibly, but she should know (especially as America's number one defender of Tupac's legacy) that if youtoucha cop, you're getting charged with something.
This also caught our interest:
McKinney's age -- 51 -- is also reported incorrectly. The report lists her as 40. Congressional and police authorities, however, confirmed the report's authenticity.
See, same thing happened to us a while back when we jumped a turnstile. You show that to the judge, he'll throw it right out. You'll be back at work by lunchtime.
