GODDAMMIT! Why don’t you like me?

Not to put too fine a point on it, but who does that bitch think she is? Megyn Kelly gonna pick a fight with Jane Fonda? GIRL, PLEASE.

Back in September, Kelly asked a bunch of rude questions about all the plastic surgery the 80-year-old actress has had.

I think it’s to your credit … but you look amazing … do you … do you … have you … why did you say … I read that you said you felt … you’re not PROUD to admit you’ve had work done. Why not?

Or as Megyn put it,

Look, I gave her the chance to empower other women, young and old, on a subject which she purports to know well, and she rejected it.

Yeah, that was our response, too. Also, the rest of America who shouted in unison, WHAT THE FUCK IS EVEN WRONG WITH YOU, MEGYN KELLY! It was so gross and shitty that people are still asking Fonda about it months later,

Variety: You became a meme after an interview with Megyn Kelly went viral. Would you ever go on her show again?

Fonda: Sure.

Variety: So you weren’t upset that she asked you about plastic surgery?

Fonda: No. It wasn’t like I was upset. I was stunned. It was so inappropriate. It showed that she’s not that good an interviewer. But if she comes around and learns her stuff, sure.

But in Megyn Kelly’s broke brain, that means Fonda is “fixated” on her. LOL, Megyn! Literally no one is fixated on you or your dumb show, with the possible exception of Andy Lack, who is probably wondering if it would have been cheaper to flush $15 million down the toilet in NBC’s executive washroom than be saddled with a morning host who bores the audience and pisses off celebrities.

You were saying, Megs,

But I have no regrets about the question. Nor am I in the market for a lesson from Jane Fonda on what is and is not appropriate. After all, this is a woman whose name is synonymous with outrage. Look at her treatment of our military during the Vietnam war, many of our veterans still call her ‘Hanoi Jane’ thanks to her radio broadcasts which attempted to shame American troops. She posed on an anti-aircraft gun used to shoot down our pilots.

So, let’s see if we can parse this argument, shall we? Fonda did something arguably offensive 45 years ago in protest of an ugly, destructive war. She has repeatedly apologized in the intervening 45 years. But even at the age of 80, with a long and respectable career behind her, Fonda is still an anti-patriotic she-devil who deserves anything that comes her way. She’s in that sweet spot between too terrible to appear in public, and actually worthy of being asked respectful questions. So, like, an ideal morning show guest.

MA’AM. We are just spitballing here, but maybe the issue is that … you’re just a horrible person? That you spent 13 years tossing raw meat to the angry olds at Fox and now you don’t know how to talk without offending the shit out of people? FFS, your audience is made up largely of woman, and you aired a segment on the joys of getting fatshamed!

But sure, blame the feminist icon grandmother. Solid plan. That’ll make them all love you and tune in to your boring-ass show!

Tune in next week to watch Megyn Kelly dropkick a puppy during the 9 o’clock hour, then defend herself by claiming that the ASPCA hates the troops. Because that’s just good, American journalism.

Please money us so we can take lessons on how to win friends and influence people good like Megyn Kelly!

Hillary, Obama, now Jane Fonda. No matter how far away you get from Fox, you can’t deprogram the wingnut from anyone who has exited the orbit.

  • Marla

So, exactly what the fuck is the story here besides Megynophic’s dismal ratings? Is NBC attempting to rehash her Fox character narrative to appease advertisers for chump change? Must be. I had no idea she was still on the air – or how she got her fucking job in the first place.

  • Nounverb911

But does Jane Fonda believe there are black Santas?

  • I’m so glad that everything in the known universe is about Megyn Kelly.

  • Ryan Denniston

It’s the she part. Had Jane Fonda been John, he would have been forgiven.

    • Magma Cardhole jesterpunk

If she was a man and shit her pants to get out of the draft or had “bone spurs” the right would love her and ask her for military advice.

      • Marla

Now they just ask her to sell vacuum cleaners and and SUV’s to middle class white America.

Hating Jane Fonda? Everything old is new again!

A Pittsburgh History page I follow on Facebook posted a shot of a huge, awesome anti-war rally in Schenley Park in 1969. Being a Facebook prophet, I commented “Imagine the outrage on Facebook if this happened today. In fact, I bet there will be outrage on this post, about this 49-year-old photograph.”

Sure enough, the derp brigade showed up to slander the protesters as “those horrible people who spit in our troops’ faces,” and to whine that they are spoiled kids who didn’t want to grow up and get jobs.

First of all, those kids in the photos are in their 60’s now at least, so spare the lecture for someone who is at least actually younger than your 50-year old wannabe-redneck ass. Second.. if Fox’s Mission was to have Nixon Win The 60’s Forever!! then they certainly have succeeded with much of our idiot population, despite Watergate.

Roger Ailes was Nixon’s PR man. He wanted to start a “Nixon TV” network to counter what he claimed was un-American treason by fake-news Cronkite. It wasn’t until Reagan killed the Fairness Doctrine that he was able to score some sweet blood money from King Rupert, and the rest is history.

If there was ever a book about this it should be called …and Then the Murdoch Began.

      • Michael Smith

The Loudest Voice in the Room covers it, but not in great depth. It focuses most on Ailes’ career at Fox, but its very interesting nonetheless.

Many soldiers died when Jane Fonda improperly installed wiring on US military bases. Oh wait, that was Halliburton.

  • Resistance Fighter Callyson

Megyn Kelly: I have no quarter to give for Jane Fonda, who deserves no respect because (thing she did actually fifty years ago). Which is why I was totally respectful and appropriate and treated her like a figure of women’s empowerment.

  • proudgrampa

You can take the Megyn out of the Fox, but you can’t take the Fox out of the Megyn…

  • Michael Smith

You think that’s bad, later Megyn asked “Jane, is it true that you don’t have a motor in the back of your Honda?”

    • Gayer Than Thou

It’s well known that Jane Fonda is very sensitive about this.

      • willi0000000

  • Jgb979

I mean for fucks sake, can’t we agree the Vietnam war was stupid, wrong, and never should have happened in 2018?

So weird how I thought you weren’t political anymore Megyn! And yet you pull out one of the oldest and most shopworn conservative slurs over a dumb thing a woman did nearly 50 years ago!

Does literally anyone on the right understand the concept of “taking the high road”?

It made as much sense making this bish a morning news anchor as it would making the “Sean Hannity celebrity honey glazed ham pot roast” cooking hour

    • Michael Smith

Not if you’re a right wing nut job. Nothing America did in the past is bad. Or at least, not bad compared to stuff people do in the rest of the world.

Saw a guy today on Facebook talking about how DACA sucks, and the illeagles need to go back to their shitholes, etc., and someone responded “Hey, if everyone is supposed to stay where they are from, shouldn’t the Native Americans still be running this continent?” He said “That’s ridiculous, you’re talking about conquest at the point of a gun. Sad but a fact of life. And now we’ve got the greatest country in the world, so hard to regret.”

      • Spotts1701, Porg Wrangler

Watching wingnuts who weren’t even born when Vietnam ended defend it and blame “leftists” for “losing” the war just make me boggle. It’s like “You weren’t even ALIVE then! How would you know what happened other than through whatever distorted lens you’re viewing it from.”

        • Michael Smith

I’ve noticed that if you talk history with a wingnut they’ll find a way to blame “leftists” for anything bad. Did you know that Rome fell because of leftists?

            Only because they crucified Jesus.

    • Cornelius Fussbudget

Spouting nonsense that wouldn’t pass the smell test in a junior high school is a sort of rite of passage for wingnuts. Maybe a better term would be “loyalty test”. By saying stuff that everyone (even other right-wingers) agree is stupid, they prove their commitment to the tribe.

    • Cucker “Dick” Tarlson
    • Sakonyachen

The Hannity thing would be like a b movie or infomercial. It would have a sort of laughing at him appeal. My take on Kelly’s show(from what I hear) is that it’s like watching someone have their teeth cleaned.

They should call it “Distracting People with Vacuous Talk While Our Corporate Masters Rob Us Blind and Anyone Who Doesn’t Play Along is a Traitor”

Fonda did something arguably offensive 45 years ago in protest of an ugly, destructive war. She has repeatedly apologized in the intervening 45 years.

I don’t think there is anything arguable about it – it was horribly offensive but by the same token, she was big enough to admit it was a mistake made in her youth and wishes she could take it back. As a vet, apology accepted the first time.

And if Megyn with a “Y” is going to bring up people’s personal appearances, it’s probably because she’s only hoping to look as good at 80 at Jane Fonda does. Because that lady is beautiful. And she apologized a long time ago – let it go.

    • BreakingDeadMen

She was right to protest the war, but went way too far in actually letting the official enemy use her for propaganda.

      • Juan de Fuca

Agreed. She was also very young and was probably used in a way she had no idea she was being for, the bigger propaganda implications, etc. Regardless, she at least admitted it was fucked up, she shouldn’t have done it. I can accept that.

What I can’t accept is people attacking her for something she did in her 20’s, that she apologized for, while still supporting a five time draft dodger who is using our own troops as political propaganda re. the current government shutdown in 2018.

        • BreakingDeadMen

I agree with all of the above, I’m just aiming for precision.

OT but the Florida mall bomb was just a few road flares taped together not an IED. It was just some older economically anxious white guys showing their anxiety. The New York Times will be along soon to interview them about it.

    https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/region-polk/improvised-explosive-device-goes-off-at-eagle-ridge-mall

The FBI says they are working with the Lake Wales Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office to investigate reports of explosions at a Lake Wales mall on Sunday night.

Initial reports claimed two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) went off at Eagle Ridge Mall on Sunday night, however, Lake Wales Police Department now says the devices were not IEDs or pipe bombs but rather flares disguised with electrical tape. Police have determined there were only two devices ignited in the service corridor where the incident occurred. Police believe the damage to the ceiling of the corridor was caused by the suspect, not an explosion.

You’re right, $5, it IS sad that Jane Fonda keeps getting reviled for her ant-war activism of 45 years ago. And like a rolling snowball, that frigging photo of her on the VietCong anti-aircraft gun (Jane, what WERE you thinking?!) has gathered more snow and given rise to a whole lot of iies about her time there. For those of you subjected to “crazy uncle emails” the debunking is here: https://www.factcheck.org/2010/11/blame-jane-falsehoods/ But mostly, I’m interested in this latest flap because the woman has met with veterans and apologized repeatedly over the last 50 years and I’d like to know where is the fucking apology to America and to Viet Nam from any 1960s politician or general still alive to apologize? Because we are all owed an apology, especially if we are the friends or families of the 50,000 Americans killed in Nam!

    • Jgb979

Honestly, it’s more than time to apologize to the 450,000 Vietcong that died or the 600,000 Vietnam citizens caught in the crossfire.

All cause they wanted the freedom to form their own government, just not the corrupt puppet dictator we approved of

      • nightmoth

Absolutely. They don’t seem to be asking for it, though, which is surprising. They must be a very forgiving people. EDIT: every time I go to the grocery store and look in the seafood section and find fish farmed in Viet Nam I think “Now we’re trading with them. Why the fuck did my high school buddy die over there? “

        • willi0000000

i don’t think so . . . i think they remember quite well but are more interested in getting on with their lives.

          • nightmoth

Of course they remember. What’s interesting is that they’re so nice about it. They even have tours for American veterans who fought them. Whereas Americans are still arguing with each other over the war and reviling Jane Fonda. Maybe it’s a Buddhist thing. Except Buddhists can be hateful, too: I’m not one of those Westerners who gets starry-eyed over Eastern religions.

          • AnnieGetYerFun

        • I think to some degree the Vietnamese are more willing to forgive (not forget) because they won. They’re not sore winners.

North Koreans, on the other hand, have not gotten over the US/UN forces literally bombing their country flat 1950-1953. People forget this when they ask why their paranoid militarist regime still holds onto grudging popular acceptance.

    • AnnieGetYerFun

THIS, 100%. I can’t believe that anyone in the US government hasn’t stepped up and said “Wow, was that every stupid of us, sorry about all your dead babies.” But then, if we did that, we’d have to acknowledge that US invasions don’t go so well anymore.

  • BearLeft

Really? REALLY!?!1 If there is one “woman whose name is synonymous with outrage,” it ain’t Jane Fonda. It’d be that one who can’t stop shilling for people who degrade her. Yeah, that one, Ms. Kelly. Trash is as trash does.

    • Manders

Even if her name *were* synonymous with outrage,” what the fork does that have to do with asking an 80-year-old screen legend if she’s had work done in the middle of an interview NOT about that subject? Unless Megsy is entire nincompoop, she is aware that people who perform for a living often feel an obligation to keep themselves looking youthful and attractive. (In fact, I would be beyond shocked if Kelly herself doesn’t get botox or fillers on the reg). I think I’d be more surprise to find an 80-year-old, still-working screen actor who HASN’T had work done.

So she either asked that question because a) she’s rull dumb, or b) because she’s wired to be “provocative” in a way that is completely inappropriate (as Ms. Fonda said) for that kind of show. Fonda didn’t even use the word “outraged” in her response in that interview; I think it’s very telling that a former Foxionista would pull out that word, because wingnuts are very fond of mocking people on the left for being “outraged” all the time.

      • Zyxomma

Actually, she was NOT asking if Fonda had had work done, she was confirming that Fonda had said she “wasn’t proud of it,” which I took to mean, “I wish I didn’t have to be vain/go under the knife to keep working at my age.”

I’ve got the perfect solution! Remake On Golden Pond with Jane Fonda as Ethel and Megyn Kelly as Chelsea. Then cast Kevin Spacey as Norman, only to replace him at great cost with Christopher Plummer.

  • AnnieGetYerFun

I was born after the Vietnam War and have honestly very little idea what Fonda did; my earliest memories of her are as some kind of fitness guru? But I have to admit that I don’t think asking people about their plastic surgery is that big of a deal. Then again, I guess no one would dare ask a male actor that. Maybe they should start.

      • AnnieGetYerFun

I’ve seen the photos of her on the tank and I think I sort of understand the outrage. But then, I don’t understand how the US ever managed to get into the war to begin with. Just wait a few years Megyn KKKelly. It starts with that little blonde highlighting, then that isn’t enough so you go to a full bottle blonde look. But the damn roots keep showing down the part line so before you know it, you go the really hard stuff to keep the blonde. And then there is all the lying trying to keep up the image you really are a blonde but everybody can see you are not. And then one day, there you are, in your late fifties and in the office of a plastic surgeon, searching for a miracle to keep your face and body looking young so you don’t get aced out by the competition half your age.

Not that this is any excuse for her being an asshole, but I’m spitballing that she may be incredibly sexually frustrated, since both of her husband’s looked gay. Maybe I should go on her show and ask her if she’s secretly gay, that would be about as appropriate as asking Jane Fonda about her face.
