Never out of style in U.S. America
Probably named “Boris.”

Donald Trump has been distracting us from the real news by being an absolute shit to war widows this week, so Wonkette is forgiven for just now getting to all this new stuff about Russian Troll Farms, and how they worked online to fuck with our election. Interestingly, a bunch of this new reporting comes from independent Russian media journalists, which apparently exist!

Remember the Russian troll farm in St. Petersburg called the IRA (Internet Research Agency)? Facebook has finally admitted to finding “470 fake accounts” and “about 3,000 ads,” bought and paid for with $100,000 in RUBLES, linked to this agency. Wouldn’t it be cool to meet somebody who used to work there?

Let’s meet former paid Russian troll ‘Max,’ IF THAT IS EVEN HIS REAL NAME. (It’s not.)

Russian independent media network Dozhd talked to “Max,” who worked at the IRA in 2014 and 2015, and he shared some interesting scoops! “Max” is not his real name, because you know how Russia is about people who tell secrets about their awful government. (It is very murder-y.)

It turns out even in early 2015, the Russians had their knives out for Hillary Clinton, probably because they knew she would run for president, and because Vladimir Putin is still sorely offended she called bullshit on Russia’s fake bullshit elections when she was secretary of State.

“Max” worked on the “foreign desk” at IRA:

According to Max, the IRA’s “foreign desk” had open orders to “influence opinions” and change the direction of online discussions. He says this department within the agency considered itself above the “Russian desk,” which he claims is generally “bots and trolls.” The foreign desk was supposedly more sophisticated. “It’s not just writing ‘Obama is a monkey’ and ‘Putin is great.’ They’ll even fine you for that kind of [primitive] stuff,” Max told Dozhd. People in his department, he says, were even trained and educated to know the nuances of American social polemics on tax issues, LGBT rights, the gun debate, and more.

Basically, the Russians were in comments sections, studying what Americans fought about, and trying to stir up even more shit with their own comments. So the asshole you fought with who couldn’t stop saying “FOUR DED MURCANS HITLERY PIZZAGATE NOBUMMER NEVER!” was probably a real American Republican idiot, whereas the one who said that stuff and spelled it correctly was probably a paid Russian troll. Indeed, they were monitored for how good they did English, whereas American Trump supporters aren’t subject to such monitoring.

“Max” said they were sure to disguise their Russian troll identities, and that their mandate was absolutely about Hillary Clinton:

Even two years before Americans actually voted on their next president, St. Petersburg trolls were told to attack Hillary Clinton, reminding Internet users about her wealth, her husband’s legacy, and her various corruption scandals.

WALL STREET SPEECHES! NAFTA! CUM-STAINS ON BLUE DRESSES! WHITEWATER! INSERT FAKE CLINTON “SCANDAL” HERE!

Not to slag on Bernie supporters, but one of the strangest things about the 2016 election season was the way some of his most ardent fans’ critiques of Hillary Clinton sounded SO MUCH LIKE everything we’ve heard from the hard right for decades. Sounds like the Russians engineered it that way!

The employees were also supposed to watch “House Of Cards” to learn what American politics are really like. Which is just … not the worst call they could have made, considering.

Here’s a weird detail:

Max says the IRA even maintained a “secret department” that sent staff to the United States for certain undisclosed tasks.

HMMMMM, wonder what they were up to! Another independent Russian media investigation this week reports that employees of the IRA outfit actually did travel to the United States to provide material support to American activists (scroll down for more details!), but we wonder if that’s all they did.

Did they meet anybody in the Trump data operation, maybe? Or possibly that crazy Hillary-hatin’ Republican crank Peter Smith, who committed suicide just before the Wall Street Journal reported he had mounted a campaign to try to get Hillary Clinton’s mythical “33,000 deleted emails” from Russian hackers? The same guy who bragged he was BFFs with Michael Flynn and his son, “Pizzagate Junior”?

Silly us, that was probably a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT department in the Russian military intelligence operation to fuck with America. Forget we said anything!

(By the by, special counsel Robert Mueller recently interviewed Matt Tait, a cybersecurity guy Smith tried to solicit for help in his Russian collusion endeavor. So did the House Intel Committee. If you haven’t read it, check out Tait’s firsthand account in Lawfare, “The Time I Got Recruited To Collude With The Russians.”)

Anyway, our new friend “Max” says when he quit in early 2015, the IRA underwent a lot of changes in staff and leadership, and that they started “burning documents” and covering their ass more thoroughly. But the work went on!

But the work went on! Wait we just said that.

We’ve been learning bits and pieces about how Russian trolls tried to influence the election through issues-based Facebook pages. They created fake Facebook events in Idaho for anti-immigrant white supremacists, and they created fake Facebook pages to push the Texas secessionist movement. (Wonkette wrote about Russian involvement in Texas secessionist stuff in real time in 2015 and 2016, never imagining what a huge Russian interference campaign it was a part of. Oh, we were so innocent then!)

A giant Russian front was the Heart Of Texas Facebook page, which started out mostly as a Texas secessionist page, but then devolved into posting weird memes like this:

Russian independent media organization RBC.ru published a much deeper look into the work of the Internet Research Agency during the 2016 election, and it is full of “WHOA IF TRUE” factoids.

We’re going long here, so how about some bullet points? If you want more, read it your damn self. (SPOILER: The Google Translate version is a piece of shit. SPOILER: We’re cheating off a summary of the report from Quartz!)

  • The IRA spent $2.3 million on its anti-American work, employed as many as 90 people, and at its peak its fake Facebook, Twitter and Instagram communities/handles (around 120 total) had more than SIX MILLION SUBSCRIBERS.
  • Most of their work wasn’t specifically pro-Donald Trump, but anti- the “ruling class,” which of course included Hillary Clinton. One employee RBC talked to explained:

“The task wasn’t to support Trump,” one of the factory’s employees told RBC. “We raised social issues and other problems that already existed in the US, and tried to shine as bright a light as possible on them.” The employee said that because Clinton was part of the current regime, she was also a target.

  • They liked to play both sides of hot button issues like Black Lives Matter, immigrant issues and LGBT issues, but we kinda already knew that. Check out RBC’s visual on all the different communities the Russians created. It’s in Russian, but you’ll get the gist.
  • As we mentioned above, they actually paid 100 American issue-based activists to help with their work, to the tune of $80K, and threw 40 fake “rallies” on a variety of fake issues, to rile up the American locals.
  • NO, DID YOU JUST HEAR US? THEY PAID AMERICAN ACTIVISTS.

Because of all the attention it’s gotten, from a 2015 investigation into the group in the New York Times magazine, all the way up to the current investigations into the tech world’s role in spreading Russia propaganda, it doesn’t seem the “IRA” is doing very much to fuck with America these days. But as Wired reported in September, that’s no big deal because there are always new Russian troll farms to play whack-a-mole with.

But it looks like the IRA is actually still there, working under a new name: Glavset.

Roy Moore’s Senate campaign said Monday it does not know why more than 1,000 fake Twitter accounts originating from Russia started following the former judge’s account over the weekend, causing a spike in Moore’s social media following.

    http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2017/10/russian_twitter_bots_invade_ro.html

Given how anti-gay Russia is, I’m not surprised they would back Moore. Russia’s anti-gay laws are where Moore wants to take us.

  • Swampay

Here’s one of my pet peeves about the pro-Bernie Hillary-slammers. I strongly believe that if Bernie were nominated all of that hatred would turn on the SOCIALIST candidate. Once the right-wing (and, as we now know Roosian) hate machine turned on Bernie he wouldn’t stand a chance in hell. How long did it take for them to start hating on Obama?

The answer was invariably “The american people won’t fall for that, the word “socialist” is neutral in politics now because everyone’s going to love Bernie”. Which was invariably followed by “Besides, BENGHAZI EMAILS VINCE FOSTER” thus proving my point, and proving the uselessness of logic in political discussion.

    Sigh.

    • Good_Gawd_Yall

Indeed. There is no way in hell the reichwing wouldn’t have immediately pivoted to socialism = communism and ramped up the screaming hordes about the imminent takeover of America by Marxists, and no amount of patient explaining that that’s not how any of this works would have made one drop of difference. Bernie would have actually lost the popular vote. I’m sure many dems would not have voted at all rather than vote for someone who is not a Democrat and never has been.

      • DrBigHead

And since many Americans don’t have a clue what “socialism” is, the branding would have worked like a charm.

    • bbayliss

That was my argument, “Think they’ve been hard on Clinton? wait’ll you see what they do to a northeastern, jewish, socialist who visited Russia.

    • King Beauregard

Bernie has thus far demonstrated no ability to deal with anything short of fawning admiration; Bernie vs. Trump would have been like a mosquito trying to punch out a can of Raid. Bernie’s meltdown would have been hilarious, except that it still would have led to Trump.

It’s quite odd how I can read a million shitty, untruthful comments about a female politician, and not go straight to enthusiastically believing every word of it, and hating her guts with the fiery passion of a thousand suns, then using that as my excuse to make a terrible choice that will profoundly injure myself, my fellow citizens, and my country. For a guy who used to be a judge you would think he would understand the law.

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/roy-moore-claims-its-against-the-law-for-players-to-kneel-during-national-anthem/

Moore, in an interview with TIME.com published Wednesday, made the case that NFL players — and conceivably, anyone else — who fails to stand and put their hands over their hearts when the “Star-Spangled Banner” is played is not only unpatriotic, but a law breaker.

“It’s against the law, you know that?” Moore told the magazine. “It was a act of Congress that every man stand and put their hand over their heart. That’s the law.”

That video of her crying on his coffin – it is beyond my ability to understand how anyone could look at that and say, “Oh, she’s lying/the congresswoman was politicizing the issue (as if Dampnut hadn’t started it)/he was right, death is a possible outcome of signing up for military service.” How can you call yourself a human being if that picture didn’t break your heart at least a little? How can you see in that an opportunity to slag on anyone?

edit: and i think trump is just as shocked to find out that most of the stupid shit he wants to do is extra-constitutional.

        • sundaytrucker

Coulda woulda shoulda and didn’t. 😂

          • Zippy W Pinhead

And we know why. Thanks again, I’m sure all the people losing their civil rights, the families being torn apart, the crying widows, the millions who will lose their insurance and all the others who will suffer as millionaires get their tax breaks, the environment gets destroyed and the federal judiciary gets packed with extremists will be sure to thank those purity ponies. Because both sides do it, amirite? And there’s no difference between Clinton and Trump, so what did it matter?

I, OTOH think anyone who couldn’t bring themselves to vote for her is a fucking self absorbed asshole dripping with white privilege who now has blood on their hands thanks to their inability to put aside their petty whining and do the right thing for the country at large because they have their heads so far up their fucking asses that to this day they can’t see all the very real pain and suffering they helped inflict upon America because of their selfish refusal to grow the fuck up and quit demanding the perfect pony. They can all rot in hell with the actual Trump voters and suck on their precious purity.

          • sundaytrucker

That’s why you need to vote for candidates in the primaries that people trust and like, instead of deluding yourself by chanting your “she can win” mantra.

          • La Cieca

Nobody much either trusted or liked Bernie.

          • Zippy W Pinhead

Hey DIPSHIT- as I’ve said thousands of times on this blog and others, I voted for Sanders in my state’s primaries. It never ceases to amaze how you idjits all automatically assume that anyone who isn’t a looney tunes Bro™ must be a Hillbot. But the truth is, most Bernie voters are disgusted with you clowns too. Want to know what the difference between us is? When the voters spoke and chose Clinton, I happily supported her in the general. I didn’t vote for fucking Jill Stein, I didn’t write in Bernie, I didn’t leave it blank and I didn’t stay home. You know what else I didn’t do? I didn’t spend those few months between the primaries and the general constantly trashing the best chance we had to keep Donnie out of office. I didn’t gleefully parrot Russian lies and GOP smears, I didn’t shit talk her, I didn’t piss and moan and whine and snivel about “rigged elections”, I didn’t share all those dopey ‘dank memes’ put together by some Macedonian teenager to fool gullible lefties. IOW I DIDN’T SPEND ALL THAT TIME DOING EVERYTHING I COULD TO DEPRESS TURNOUT AND ENTHUSIASM! Yet now, after that constant, nonstop barrage of sabotage, you assholes have the fucking balls to complain about her lack of votes?

That’s too rich… You clowns did everything you could to hurt her out of petulance and because of your sanctimonious and completely unearned self righteousness. Instead of sucking it up and being an adult about it, you clowns chose to be whiny children. Do you think this is the first time the rest of us have had to make hard choices and pull the lever for a less than ideal candidate? Welcome to the real world where perfect politicians don’t exist. But the fact is, she was more than adequate- in fact, she’d have made a fine president, especially compared to the daily trainwreck we ended up with. She’s far more progressive than you brainwashed fools would admit and she wasn’t all that different from Sanders. Those of us who are adults recognized that and voted for her, some happily, some grudgingly, but we ALL did the right thing- except for you. And now, because you little crybabbies decided to throw a tantrum, we ended up with the boy king. You whiners couldn’t settle for a $12 minimum wage instead of $15, now nobody gets a damn dime. You whiners couldn’t settle for means tested college instead of free for everyone and instead we got Betsy DeVos dismantling public education. You clowns were single payer or bust- well, it turns out “bust” means Donnie and the GOP tearing apart the ACA and ripping insurance away from millions of people. I hope you’re fucking happy. And you guys STILL won’t take any responsibility whatsoever for this debacle, despite doing your share to bring it about.

          • sundaytrucker

Of course you voted for Bernie. 😂. While we are on things we can say and never prove, I was out canvassing for that worthless Clinton campaign even before the convention. If you saw how horribly they ran that thing, you’d know Bernie Bros were the least of her problems. Bad candidate + bad campaign = losing to Trump. That’s all there is to it.

          • Zippy W Pinhead

You’re calling me a liar now? FUCK YOU! Feel free to look through my comments- they are wide open and I’ve mentioned this going all the way back a year or more to the primaries. Go ahead. I’ll wait. And when you see that I’m telling the truth, feel free to go fuck yourself some more. More proof that the Bros™ are useless and full of shit as their counterparts, the trumptards. You both wallow in the same bullshit conspiracy theories, you both smear and lie about Hillary and you’re both a bunch of crybabby entitled assholes. Most importantly, you’re both dishonest as hell- two peas in a pod.

          • sundaytrucker

Go look through my comments and see how much I have to keep Bernie Bros in check. Shitting on obvious allies isn’t a great political strategy Bro. Please keep continuing to tell me to go fuck myself, it only shows how far you need to go to be an effective political advocate. Holding your own beliefs so sacred that the moment someone fucks with you, you lose your shit only tells me how your own fragile ego outweighs your commitment to the cause. This isn’t about you, this is about everyone. Stop bitching how some people let you down. I’ve been recruiting and running young Berniecrats for locals this past month. I’ve been trying to find others for the mids. Grow up. I’m 50 and have been watching the Democratic Party turn from a progressive party into a “not Republican” party for 30 years. We have a chance to lead rather than oppose, and we need to start leading. If you want to bitch, go ahead and bitch; if you want change, then stop bitching.

    • Michael Smith

For sure – though a question may be whether they knew. If a Trump activist took $5,000 to mail anti-Hillary pamphlets from an organization called Americans For Liberty and Justice, with whom he only ever exchanged emails, then maybe he didn’t know.

      • Michael Shur

That’s the crux of my question. Ignorance of the law is no excuse, but what about ignorance of who you actually work for?

        • C4TWOMAN

It probably depends on how badly someone wants to figure out where the money came from.
There are rules about registering an agent for a foreign government- I don’t know if these would apply. Also, campaigns aren’t supposed to take contributions from foreign governments.

One wonders how many of our “deleted commentators” were really Russian disinformation plants. The libtard guy? The KKKKKKK people?

    • Michael Smith

I wonder if that crazy homophobe guy that always came in with incredibly detailed and graphically worded accounts of homosexual encounters (fantasies?) was Russian. If so.. well, that’s even weirder.

  • On a serious note – There’s a lot more to this story than we could fit in there. Read the 2015 NYTimes story, and it’s follow up about the Finnish journo who was attacked and stalked by a very organized disinformation campaign. Those two stories not only exposed the IRA, but they also shed light on what happened to people who tried to call them out. It’s scary stuff. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

I always thought it was weird how many people thought that House of Cards represents current politics rather than being based off of All the Kings Men which was, of course, about Huey Long. in truth, things are much more West Wing on any given day. like going to pick up a copy of a substitute bill that’s relatively standard legislation and having its author talk about how she is on a diet and trying to ignore the big piece of cake one of her staffers brought back. it’s not at all the suspenseful shoving people in front of trains many have come to believe it is. but now I know who was pushing the narrative that it was all smoky back rooms and illicit sex.

illicit sex, you say? yes please!

Here’s the thing: I realized some time ago that the very POINT is the simple fact that it’s impossible to tell the difference between a Russian troll, a vicious little algorithm, and a real Republican voter.

That’s it in a nutshell right there. The fact that you can’t readily distinguish a Russian making mischief for Mother Russia from a Republican sharing his actual “philosophy” tells you everything you need to know about Republicans.

I first became aware that there was something deeply hinky going on, by the way, after George Zimmerman murdered Trayvon Martin, and every single comments section was suddenly flooded by all these odd people who were frenzied and intense, who called the killer “Zim” (so affectionate) and laid out intricate scenarios of the violent events of that night, even though the intricate scenarios they laid out were either completely unfounded, completely impossible, or just straight up bizarre lies. They also gushed out Breitbart-style “statistics” and narratives of white victimhood.

They did it all with such assurance, and there were so many of them, that it was clear to me that these weren’t just regular commenters—that there was something odd happening.

At the time, I simply assumed they were paid Koch/Republican trolls: later, as these same tactics were used after a succession of murders of black victims by white cops, I thought okay, maybe these are trolls for law enforcement organizations.

And maybe they were: but come to find out, a lot of the most intensely racist trolling has come out of Russia, in deference to the fact that as one of the most racist societies in the world, we’re easy to tweak: and giving our own profoundly racist culture that extra little nudge, weaponizing the worst among us.

  • bluicebank

Let me point out that the social media cluster of 2016 took many forms. As Wonkette and natch empirical evidence shows, there was the obvious shit (ads, actual fake posts, blah blah) that was easily identified by people with critical thinking skillz.

The other category was (conservative) people you knew, who will compromised by the KGB (old school term, now they have fancy names like who gives a shit except the forensics team).

The other category was liberals, even a couple of my fellow Bernie peeps, who fell into the same trap of the fake news thingy. Clinton people also not immune. In one case, it was easy to see how my fellow Bernie supporters was off the rails, mostly because she is an anti-vaxer and loved crystal minerals for their healing power. (I like them because, pretty crystals are sparkly.)

All the above is why I think we should have taught informal logic and other critical thinking skills starting at the age of five like about before I was born. Also, the CIA dropped the ball on this shit. As if counter-intel was dropped from their vocabulary.

    • Question everything. Verify everything.

And when in doubt, use experimental results to inform your next move.

One doesn’t have to know everything (wouldn’t that be nice), but to simply know enough to solve a particular problem. And upon problems solved, more complicated problems are oft solved.

We’re going in the wrong direction, collectively. We’re using repeated failed experiments as a guide to future actions. The middle will not hold.

They travel both ways. Americans went to Russia as well: see Roy Moore/Ron Paul associates:

    “A Moscow – Montgomery Axis?

As it happens, the League has been receiving encouragement from
elements in Russia, particularly some who support Ukrainian separatists.
He addressed, via Skype, a red/brown conference of anti-globalism activists, in Moscow in December 2014. Hill told the conference that he sees American southern nationalism as an “historic ‘blood and soil’ movement” – an overt reference to 20th century ultra-German nationalism and Naziism.

Hill reports that he also emphasized the League’s “direct Southern
nationalist challenge to the political, economic, and financial engine
of globalism – the Washington, DC/European Union alliance.”

While the League has been networking with separatist movements around
the world for a long time, the relationship with and support for
pro-Russian, Ukrainian separatists has been growing. On his Facebook
page last year, Hill castthe situation as a battle between the “decadent West,” meaning the U.S.and the European Union (EU), and supposedly traditionalist Russia—which he described as “conservative, Orthodox, anti-Muslim and anti-PC.”

Meanwhile, Ron Paul’s been busy in Europe:

October 12, 2015: “Ron Paul to deliver keynote address at anti-American hate fest in Berlin”

“The “magazine for a sovereign Germany” COMPACT has organized a conference
taking place on October 24, 2015 in Berlin. The conference is devoted
to ending American “occupation” of Germany. As stated on the conference
    Web site:…”

Yeah, your Libertarian Ron Paul boot licks, Greenwald, Assange, and Snowden handed Putin a shit ton of US intel… remember that?

“Snowden’s father, Lon Snowden, has been represented by GOP lobbyist
Bruce Fein for roughly two months now — ever since Lon’s first public
appearance, when he begged his son not to do anything stupid. Like defecting to the Kremlin.

Apparently Lon Snowden wasn’t supposed to say anything obvious like
that because the next thing you know, a GOP lobbyist and Ron Paul
advisor named Bruce Fein attached himself to Mr. Snowden’s neck — and
from that moment on, Mr. Snowden can’t so much as fart in public without
Bruce Fein sitting close enough to get first sniffs…”

they actually paid 100 American issue-based activists to help with their work, to the tune of $80K

OK, maybe I’m behind the times or something, but I seem to recall that the ruble is kinda “pleh” at the moment thanks to ongoing sanctions, so I’d assume that some of this money is from a stockpile of Ameros they have somewhere. So how much longer do you think it’ll be before they exhaust this?

    • Biel_ze_Bubba

I don’t think Putin has any trouble in that department.

  • Rocket Pony Ron

NOW can we declare it an act of war?

  • smew

I think they’re still out there in the comments sections. They don’t have American-style bad grammar and spelling, but their syntax is odd and they don’t always conjugate well. (for example, a few months ago I made an apolitical comment on Rachel Maddow’s FB about how she should have done a segment in a Boris & Natasha accent, and someone whose account looked fake replied with “Liberal media had rotted your brain”.) I find “Well, you’re just a Russian troll” is a great way to discount trolls in general. “Of COURSE you’re a Russian troll, bless your heart”.

    • Mehmeisterjr

I like to keep a friendly “Спасибо, товарищ” handy for such occasions.

      • Biel_ze_Bubba

2: the hill posts articles that attract trolls, bots, and real-live american dipshits.

      • Mary Theresa

Their fairly easy to spot on the Hill. They put great emphasis on better US/Russian relations. I have drawn several out just by using google translator and commenting in Russian. Bots are easier to recognize, they can’t answer questions directly and only spout propaganda in responses to comments.

I’m on the illiterate side of the fence when it comes to these things, sadly.

  • King Beauregard

“Not to slag on Bernie supporters, but one of the strangest things about the 2016 election season was the way some of his most ardent fans’ critiques of Hillary Clinton sounded SO MUCH LIKE everything we’ve heard from the hard right for decades. Sounds like the Russians engineered it that way!”

So how many people at Bernie rallies and caucuses were Russian agents? How many of our long-time friends were actually Russian sleeper agents, who were finally activated this election season?

I don’t doubt that Russians worked to stir up Hillary-hate. But on the other hand, a lot of people on the Left were way too stir-up-able. And let’s face it, Bernie himself worked as hard as anyone to paint Hillary as corrupt and unqualified for office; to be a Bernie supporter in good standing, a person had to not only want Bernie but hate Hillary.

It’s comforting to think this country went off the rails because of foreign meddling, but I suspect Russia’s influence was ultimately a footnote. We the People did this to ourselves.

    • Lily412

Just like it’s Nader’s fault that W.Bush won and it’s Ross Perot’s fault that Clinton won. Except that that’s a massive oversimplification of what took place. Just because anti-Hillary Bernie Bros were the loudest doesn’t mean they were representative of his supporters as a whole or that they were the biggest contributor to her poor public image that caused people to pick crazy over her. Why we keep choosing to fight among ourselves almost a year later instead of actually being mad at the real threat is totally beyond me.

      • King Beauregard

“contributor to her poor public image that caused people to pick crazy over her.”

That “caused” people to pick crazy over her, you say. Allow me an alternative interpretation that actually recognizes that people have agency: a lot of people on the Left and the Right were to goddamn stupid to realize Hillary was the only sane choice. If I could figure it out, why couldn’t Bernie supporters? In what fundamental tragic way are they broken?

“Why we keep choosing to fight among ourselves almost a year later instead of actually being mad at the real threat is totally beyond me.”

Well there is the small matter that the Left refuses to learn: they didn’t learn after 2010 or 2014, and they sure as hell didn’t learn after 2016.

“Why we keep choosing” … then we get moose and squirrel, da?

        • Lily412

That’s what I’m trying to tell you, homie. Plenty of Bernie supporters are not crazy people, myself included. Yes, I preferred Bernie to Hillz, but I voted for her on election day because a) I think she’d do a good job and b) she’s not an insane person with the temperament of a 3-yr-old
I think that Bernie Bros that voted for Trump out of spite were just a drop in the bucket compared to the widespread misinformation campaign that was launched against her.

          • King Beauregard

Twelve percent of people who voted for Bernie in the primaries voted for Trump in the general election. It was definitely enough to hand the election to Trump, and that’s not even taking into account those who went for Stein or stayed home.

Twelve percent. If you were sitting in an auditorium surrounded by Bernie supporters, statistically speaking, one of the people around you would have gone for Trump.

          • Lily412

You’re right about the 12 percent. But some analysts say that the voters who went Bernie>Trump instead of Bernie>Hillary weren’t democrats to begin with and wouldn’t have voted for Hillary no matter what:
            http://www.npr.org/2017/08/24/545812242/1-in-10-sanders-primary-voters-ended-up-supporting-trump-survey-finds

Maybe it’s the case that they hated Hillary, but also didn’t like Trump, so they picked Bernie.
I think, though, that this might be something we aren’t going to agree on. But that’s okay–it happens.

          • King Beauregard
          • Lily412

This looks familiar. What anime is this from?

          • King Beauregard

Full Metal Alchemist. I don’t know what’s going on between these two, but I am happier being mystified.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdWNCoTkgE4

      • SDGeoff3

I could not agree more. I changed parties to vote for Senator Sanders, and I was very happy to support Mrs Clinton after she won the primary.

      • Zippy W Pinhead

I don’t think people believe that most Bernie supporters were zealots- hell, a good many here supported him. But as you pointed out, that minority were disproportionately loud and they did untold damage with their constant smears and attacks. All that constant negativity depresses turnout and enthusiasm. It makes it far too easy for those not predisposed to vote to just stay home, because “they’re all equally bad”.

  • Ducksworthy

At this point we have to assume that all troglobots are Russian troglobots remotely operated from that house St. Petersburg. Also, the GOP Congress.
