Early Saturday morning, a bomb went off in a mosque in Bloomington, Minnesota, as members of the congregation were starting to arrive for prayers. Nobody was injured, but the blast blew out a window and caused damage to the imam’s office. One member of the congregation reported seeing “a truck fleeing from the parking lot.” While there haven’t been any arrests or suspects identified, Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton called the bombing a “terrible, dastardly, cowardly act” and “an act of terrorism” Sunday. And our tough-on-terrorism president? He’s been whining about Hilary Clinton and lying about his poll numbers, as well as promising fire and fury at North Korea, but no, not a word about the mosque bombing. Jeez, do you liberals expect him to comment on every little act of domestic terrorism or something? It’s not like any Minnesota Muslims voted for him, so why would he notice their house of worship being bombed?
Happily, Trump spokesNazi Sebastian Gorka took to MSNBC to offer a perfectly reasonable explanation for the White House’s silence on the Minnesota bombing. Trump is simply being prudent and waiting until all the facts are in, because you never know, maybe liberals bombed the mosque to blame it on rightwingers:
There’s a great rule: All initial reports are false. You have to check them and find out who the perpetrators are. We’ve had a series of crimes committed, alleged hate crimes by right wing individuals in the last six months that turned out to be prop propagated by the left. Let’s allow the local authorities to provide their assessment and then the White House will make its comments.
The Department of Homeland Security did at least issue a very general statement in the name of acting Secretary Elaine Duke, saying DHS was ready to coordinate with local law enforcement and that DHS “fully supports the rights of all to freely and safely worship the faith of their choosing,” and “vigorously” condemned attacks on religious institutions, so that may be all we hear from the administration.deadly attack on a casino in Manila, which local officials concluded was a failed robbery attempt; or February’s nonexistent terror attack in Sweden; or the crash of an EgyptAir jet over the Mediterranean last year that French investigators determined was an accident. We owe it to the survivors of the Bowling Green Massacre to make sure all the facts are in. Then we can jump to conclusions.
So maybe Trump might consider a more general condemnation of any attack on a house of faith, regardless of who false-flagged it? Probably not needed, since the DHS said bombing mosques is bad, but the president is a bigger name than Elaine Duke. Gorka wasn’t going to take the bait, because the president is a very busy man:
I’m not going to give social media advice to a man who basically won the election in large part thanks to his understanding of social media and to destroy the fake news industrial complex’s predictions about who would win the last election. So just hold your horses, count to ten and the president will do what he deems fit.
Pfft. Mosque bombing. Don’t tell the president what he cares about, OK? Your job is to shut up and report how America is being made greater. Also, to remind everyone that Donald Trump won the election. Why don’t you ever tell America that, huh?
