It’s worth it to gander at what the pro-Trump media is doing in response to Donald Trump Jr.’s great fuckup, the first definite evidence that the Trump campaign actively tried to illegally conspire with Russia to steal the election. Despite how the mainstream media is #woke about this now, complicit White house staffers, Fox News idiots, Breitbart cucks and paid Trump dick-lickers are sure to try to spin this in any direction they can, to hide the truth from the double-digit IQs who make up Donald Trump’s base.

In that spirit, WHAT UP, KAYLEIGH MCENANY? In case you’re not familiar, she’s a Harvard Law graduate who, like many members of the professional right, has found it profitable to pretend she is a fucking moron for Trump. CNN pays her cash money for this! She presumably uses the money to give herself lobotomies, or maybe she just spends it on liquor and loose women, to distract from how she’s sold her soul to the world’s stupidest devil. (We are not saying she is a lesbianese person! She is engaged to traditional marry a pro baseball player!)

Anyway, Hayleigh McFiddlesticks wrote some dumb shit in The Hill about how Donald Trump Jr. is completely innocent, and about how Hillary Clinton is the REAL Russia colluder. You see, in the liquefied brains of paid Trump supporters, it is still the 2016 campaign, and every Trump (ALLEGEDLY!) criminal action has an equal and opposite “BUT HILLARY!” reaction.

Consider her evidence:

As the Times stories aimed at Donald Trump Jr. emerged, Trump Jr. and those involved opted for transparency every step of the way.

Don Jr. transparently lied about the Russian meeting on Saturday, he told a different transparent lie on Sunday …

In the Times’ first story published Saturday, reporting a meeting among Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort, and a Russian lawyer, the meeting is curiously described as “previously unreported,” despite the fact that both Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort disclosed the meeting before the Times’ reporting.

Previously unreported in the newspaper, Bayleigh McHootenanny. Previously unreported in the newspaper. We all know Jared Kushner suddenly amended his clearance filings when the press started digging around this story, and that Paul Manafort “recently” told a congressional committee about it. We learned those things in the newspaper!

Now Faileigh McDipsyDoodle would like to explain why Junior’s attempted conspiracies weren’t bad because it wasn’t like he was promised info on Russian hacking or anything. It was a different kind of Russian conspiracy!

… [T]he information Trump Jr. initially expressed interest in receiving was not hacked emails or illegally obtained documents but apparently information about Clinton’s official Secretary of State dealings with Russia.

Weird, just like it said in the Steele Dossier. Is Gayleigh McLegallyBlonde saying the Steele Dossier is REAL? Pee hooker video, here we come!

Time for Dayleigh McALLOFTHEMKATIE to explain why Junior was right to try to get top secret anti-Clinton dirt from the Russian government, because Hillary is the REAL COLLUDER:

Trump Jr. [had] full reason to suspect Clinton had operated nefariously in her dealings with Russia. Bill Clinton had given a $500,000 speech in Russia. Clinton had given her approval in handing one-fifth of U.S. uranium to Russia, after which her foundation received $2.35 million from the Russian-controlled company. Suspiciously, Clinton did not disclose the transaction.

A speech! Bill Clinton, an ex-president of America, gave a speech! LOCK HIM UP! If you click on Kaley McNinny’s source link for “handing one-fifth of uranium to Russia,” you’ll find that it’s a bullshit claim from the book Clinton Cash, a book Clinton-haters who can’t put on condoms without stabbing their cousin-wives in the eye view as gospel. Normal people know it was funded by Breitbart, written by Steve Bannon’s buddy, and pretty much completely debunked BEFORE IT WAS PUBLISHED. McGillicuddy’s link also includes the following words:

There was no evidence the money influenced then-secretary of State Clinton or the approval of the uranium deal. […]

The fact-checking website Politifact has dubbed the allegations of impropriety against Clinton in this matter “mostly false.”

Seriously. All we did was click on the link she provided, in order to debunk her.

But anyway, Smelly McGigglebiscuit, please keep telling us about how Hillary is the real Russia colluder?

Likewise, Clinton campaign chief John Podesta sat on the board of a company that received $35 million from the Russian government alongside fellow board members Anatoly Chubais, a senior Russian official, and Ruben Vardanyan, an oligarch.

OMG! A New York Post article written by the same Clinton Cash guy? John Podesta met a Russian???? Did he use those connections to try to do conspiracies with Russia to steal the 2016 election, because listen up, McSmarty, THAT’S THE FUCKING QUESTION AT HAND. There is nothing illegal about having contacts with Russians, unless you’re using them for nefarious purposes like MEDDLING IN AMERICAN ELECTIONS, you DUMB UNPATRIOTIC CLOWN HICK.

Skittles McDingDong also cites “evidence” of how Hillary “colluded” with Ukraine for “oppo research,” providing as proof a link to a Politico investigation about a few Ukrainians trying to help Hillary and undermine Trump. Politico quotes David Merkel of the Atlantic Council, who worked in Dubya’s State Department, who says the American election “may have been seen as a surrogate battle by those in Kiev and Moscow.” What the Politico investigation DOES NOT SHOW is Ukraine directing a multi-pronged campaign to influence the election outcome, and it DOES NOT SHOW Hillary’s staff or the DNC popping wood to do conspiracies with Ukraine and call it normal “oppo research.” It’s an interesting investigation! Read it if you want, if only to see how poor Becky McRib’s reading comprehension is.

We’re done with this shit. Here’s a Rachel Maddow thing from Tuesday night about some of the other bullshit distractions Trump idiots are probably about to throw at us, to deflect from how fucking guilty they probably are:

Right, the argument is that everyone does it, but the media hates Trump so they call him out on things they let liberals get away with. Its a good way to deflect the problem, and it fits the narrative that Trump is fighting liberals’ corruption and hypocrisy and must be given some leeway to do so, considering how the liberals have usurped all of our traditional institutions.

    • Michael Smith

That seems to be what some of them think. Others seem not to go so far as to say Hillary induced Trump to collude, but that she was simply doing the exact same thing – the only difference being the liberal media likes Hillary so they ignored it. Therefore, had Hillary won, all of these same issues would exist, but the media wouldn’t be saying a word.

Thus, the importance of staying strong through these hypocritical attacks on our Dear Leader – for he is the only one who can remove liberal hegemony from our institutions, which is the Real Source of all of our country’s problems.

You are confused because the objective was never to lend credibility to trump or even suppress clinton’s chances, the objective is to delegitimize the process, as it has been elsewhere in the world. The objective is proceeding swimmingly.

Like, let’s grant this is the highest-level Putin-approved psyop to do some Manchurian Candidate nonsense. I personally believe this was more of a vague influence dragnet in the State Dept mold rather than direct influencing (partially because that’s what the evidence supports so far but also because that’s a certain level of irony I could see Putin playing with) but for the purposes of conversation fuck it, this conspiracy goes all the way to the top. Why was this operative either cleared or directed to have an incredibly awkward meeting with Trump Jr. with no actual information to present? why do you think this incredibly explosive information was allowed to be committed to writing?

Why would an ex spymaster and multi-decade politician decide, in a G20 meeting that notably went 90 minutes overtime, not confer with Trump for two flippin’ minutes to say “hey, how do you want to play this in the media, by the way?” like every other meeting of leaders since the printing press. Why would this person, who supposedly masterminded all this shit go out and say the almost exact opposite of what happened before Trump got to a mic if a secure Trump presidency was the goal?

The imagery of Trump on a leash is no doubt compelling to the unexercised fetishists here, but a) makes even less sense than the rest of what happened in 2016 and b) doesn’t and wouldn’t work IRL. The object is nothing more or less than the raw spectacle of it. Loud and noisy and public. Electing a clown, eating him alive, replacing him with a towheaded rapture-ready chauvinist so blandly psychopathic even the Hoosiers were getting ready to tell him to fuck off. And all of our institutions, the two parties, the purportedly friendly congress who bridles under his executive authority, the media who has never found a moral they won’t mortgage for more eyes and clicks, all of it is going along and all of it is loathed by the nation. It’s foul fighting vile and you can’t turn it the fuck off so the prevailing sentiment in the average person is one of general disgust and forlorn hope. Now THATS a quintessentially Russian sentiment if there ever was one.

    • Putin wants an INSECURE American presidency, and he’s gotten his wish.

There’s so much more, Manafort was getting $10 mil a year from a Russian front company. Flynn was taking money from Russia that was laundered through a Pro-Turkish lobbying shell organization. Trump himself has ties to various Russian oligarchs stretching back to the ’90’s. All that money and all those ties to pro Putin people are not simply coincidental. Trump may be an idiot and have no idea what he’s doing but the same can’t be said about Putin. He has a plan. We just don’t know what the end game is yet.

      • eka

Dear Kayleigh McInninny and your brain dead cons:
In 2010, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States approved the sale of 20% of an uranium mine, the majority of the shares to the Russians. The State Department was one of nine agencies on the committee that approved the deal. Clinton had no part in the deal. The deal was also separately approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and signed off by Obama. They can mine the uranium but cannot sell it as part of the deal. Robby Mook, campaign mgr for HRC’s 2016 campaign, has categorically denied all allegations of using any Ukraine information for oppo research.
For a Harvard educated lawyer, surprised you can’t manage Google to get your facts straight. Maybe it’s all that Rump Kool-Aid that’s addled your brain. You are going to be SO triggered when the indictments come down!

    • Oh she can google them. But the GOP way is to find a lie that seems to work, and repeat it to the exclusion of all else. When in doubt, blame the black guy too, also.
Currently they are working on spin version 4 for DJ Jr’s fiasco.

      • Vagenda of Rebel Scum

It seems to work this way:
        Float the lie
It’s spread in right wing radio, blogs, and tv

  • I just listened to Lindsey Graham’s questions to Christopher Wray, the FBI director nominee. He led Wray along, kind of answering for him at times. On youtube it’s being labeled as “grilling”, but I’m not so sure. I think he’s laying the groundwork for another “Clinton scandal”, like Rachel talked about last night (see clip above). I think the rethugs are going to try to make a case that the Clinton campaign conspired with Ukraine to undermine drumpf’s campaign, and Graham just disguised it as a “grilling.” Or maybe I’m being paranoid.

    • Vagenda and Pee-ara

Yeah, I couldn’t quite figure out where he was going with his whole line of questioning. Part of it seemed like “Trump’s guilty as hell” but the other part seemed to be “so is Killary.” Sometime I forget he’s a Republican, and then he reminds me.

      • Elvis Causticfellow

A full four lines on the subject with no gay baiting. Impressive!

        • Vagenda and Pee-ara

Are you talking about me gay baiting?

          • Elvis Causticfellow

No, I’m congratulating you on not. Sometimes the Miss Lindsay stuff really strikes me as excessive. No names in particular though.

          • Vagenda and Pee-ara

Yeah, as a gay person, I have a problem with closet cases like Miss Lindsey, voting on laws that restrict my rights. Other than that, I could care less that she’s a big old homo. I guess you could compare it to Dave Chappelle calling his friends “Nigga” although I don’t consider Miss Lindsey my friend.

By the way, I’m the person who gave Lindsey Graham the internet nickname “Miss Lindsey” and I’m proud of that. It thrills me to see so many other people using it on the internet.

          • Christopher Smith

No, what is excessive is Miss Lindseybelle’s incessant pearl-clutching at selected Rethug atrocities, followed by her unvarying party line vote for precisely those atrocities and those perpetrators when it comes down to it. Oh, and her colossal nerve as a toxic closet case in voting against LGBT rights over and over and over. Speaking of pearl-clutching, don’t you have some dRUMPf appointees to stage a pity party for? Perhaps Beasty deVos?

      • cmd resistor

I’ve given up on hoping he will ever follow through on what at first seems promising. Fool me 50 times, shame on me, Lindsey.

        • Vagenda and Pee-ara

So what is that supposed to accomplish exactly- accepting campaign aid from a foreign government is ok if everyone does it?
Here’s the other thing- Trump is President. Hillary is not. If a foreign government wanted to give me dirt on my opponent, the first question I’d ask myself is hmmmm, what might they want in return?
What did the Russians want in return, you slimy little fcuk? Or do you even care?
We can worry about what the Clinton campaign did or didn’t do later, assuming they did anything.

Donald Trump’s public schedule has gone blank once again, as the amorphous Republican retreats behind the walls of the White House.

His strange disappearing act comes as Trump’s family becomes deeply embroiled in the Russia collusion story, and while the Republican Party is trying to generate momentum to pass its health care bill.

Instead of having a full schedule in the wake of a multiple-day trip last week to the G20 summit in Europe, Trump has disappeared. He hasn’t had an official public, stateside appearance in more than a week.

    Josh Marshall, serially killing it:

New York’s business and media world is a cockpit of vipers. It’s hard to say anyone who comes out of that world is green or wet behind the ears. But Washington DC, and especially big federal criminal investigations are different. It does not prepare you for that. If you look at Trump’s own career, there’s a persistent pattern. Get into a jam and you call in the lawyers, make threats, threaten lawsuits. If someone gets in your way you bleed them for years in court. If things go bad, you settle and move on. There’s also the tabloids. They look vicious. But they can also be deeply pliant for the rich. Landing a blow by planting a nasty story in the Post is a persistent theme of Trump’s racket for decades. Being a longtime informant for the FBI solves other problems. Having a problem with a disloyal? Fire them and threaten retribution. There’s probably an NDA already in place. They can be dealt with. …

Because of the President’s damaged personality and perrenial and chronic anger it can seem like he’s different, that he gets the magnitude of the situation. I don’t think he does. Every reverse is because he’s being treated unfairly or let down by Reince Priebus or Steve Bannon or now his loyalist lawyer Marc Kasowitz. The problems won’t go away because his staff can’t stop the leaks. In a situation like this there aren’t a lot of people you can effectively buy or destroy. This is a legal world that Trump has very little experience with.

A big federal investigation like this is like a broad lava flow. It moves slowly but it is unstoppable. It burns and crushes things in its wake. And things too big or unburnable it just covers over. The little antics and PR gambits mainly do not matter. Key players in this mix don’t seem to appreciate that.

The questions are obvious. The answers are wanting. We the American people deserve to know what in God’s name is happening. Our legal system demands a presumption of innocence until the evidence proves otherwise. But the evidence is piling up.

I have been around a long time. I like to think I have seen a lot. But the revelations of the emails that set up the meeting between Donald Trump. Jr. – and let us not forget both Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner – with an agent of the Russian government is unlike anything I could even have imagined. There is still a lot that we do not know. But only a hypocrite, a cynic or a fool could argue that this development can be innocuously explained.

it is like a carnival mirror is being held up to American democracy, distorting everything we thought we knew into grotesque new shapes. We need a reality check. This is decision time, especially for our elected officials. Which side of history will you be on?

    Notorious libtard rag Business Insider:

… the people telling us that nothing came of the meeting are people who were in the meeting and would have reason to want us to believe that nothing came of the meeting. And they’re also lying liars who have been lying about all sorts of stuff, including, for months, whether there were contacts between the Trump campaign and agents of the Russian government.

Donald Trump Jr.’s story about why he took the meeting makes no sense. Tuesday night on “Hannity,” he repeatedly said he took it as “a courtesy” to “an acquaintance.” Was Trump Jr. routinely pulling Paul Manafort (the campaign chairman at the time) and Jared Kushner (Trump’s son-in-law, whose time is actually valuable) into meetings with unknown people with information of unknown value to provide courtesies to acquaintances? If so, he must have been extremely annoying to work with.

And the email to Trump Jr. from Rob Goldstone, the music publicist who set up the meeting, promised information as “part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.” Not only did Trump Jr. not react with alarm to that statement, he didn’t even react with surprise. The implication was that Trump Jr. was already aware of — and interested in — Russian government efforts to help the campaign.

And when Trump Jr. asked Manafort and Kushner to join a meeting related to said efforts, Manafort and Kushner apparently did not say “Buzz off, kid. We’re busy running a front-running presidential campaign. Go take your own meeting brokered by the eccentric publicist for an Azeri pop star.” They thought it was worth their time to join — presumably because they were also aware of and interested in such Russian efforts.

These people are not honest, and the story they are telling about this meeting does not make sense. Do not assume that it is true.

“Skittles McDingDong also cites “evidence” of how Hillary “colluded” with Ukraine for “oppo research,” providing as proof a link to a Politico investigation about a few Ukrainians trying to help Hillary and undermine Trump.”

And it’s a semi-legit point. Campaign finance laws do not allow accepting monetary gifts or other things of value from foreign nationals; oppo research almost certainly would count (you can’t tell me it’s not of value). And actively courting contributions is likewise verboten. So, it looks like there may be a couple people in the DNC who broke those rules. No evidence that Hillary or her campaign did, though.

But that’s just a couple of campaign finance rules, and is not really the point. Ukraine was not trying to interfere with our elections on a variety of levels, such as trying to hack voter roles. Nor is there any evidence that Ukraine was trying to install a president who would put Ukrainian interests above US interests. Putin is trying to work against our general and national well-being, and Trump is helping him. Trump is sure as hell breaking his oath of office.

    • Le Chapeau

As the Politico story points out, there is a fundamental difference between the Russian and Ukrainian efforts. The Ukrainians involved were lower level sources with little coordination, while the Russian effort came from the very top and was highly organized.

      • Nasty Girl Brianna

And all they were trying to do was say “Hey you guys, we know Russia and Trump are colluding to steal the election. Heads up, y’all”.

      • AnnieGetYerFun

Does that matter, as far as accepting material from them? Asking sincerely.

        • Le Chapeau

The head of the Clinton campaign categorically denied using any material from the Ukrainians. Frankly since, by actual count, the Clinton campaign and Clinton herself were rated the most honest of all the candidates, I’d be inclined to believe that.

          • AnnieGetYerFun

Yes. I heard they denied using it. But did they accept it?

          • Le Chapeau

I think we need to know the form the information came in. Was it a phone call? Email, snailmail? If it’s dropped on your desk and you open it and read it, have you accepted it? Was it the offer of information yet undisclosed that was met with a “no thanks?” We don’t know.

          • AnnieGetYerFun

Yeah, there are some hairs to split there, but what I am asking is if Ukrainian agents went to the Clinton campaign with a promise of damaging oppo research and the campaign (or some portion of it) agreed to at least see what they had? I’m not interested in the niggling details of how and when envelopes were opened.

          • Le Chapeau

It has been categorically denied. And I offer Al Franken’s take on the false equivalency: Begins at 1:50
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpQlxrX0qV0

    • Think you missed the semi legit point I am thinking. It would be against campaign finance rules if they accepted money or other things; since the money and other things do not seem to have been accepted, no one broke any rules at all.

      • Bobathonic

It’s against the rules to ask for them, too.

        • Did they ask for them?
Seems to me it does not say that, but instead says These Dudes in the Ukraine said they had some shit.

          • Bobathonic

Well, we weren’t there, and the suspects are the ones providing any evidence. I’m just saying that there doesn’t have to be a transfer of any things of value.

          • AmazingProfessionalCrastinator

Assuming Jared really did leave the room. Where did he go? Has anyone said where yet?

      • commatoes

It might to be breaking election law per se. But it is evidence of collusion with an agent of a hostile foreign state, as the potential info warranted a secret meeting with the highest levels of the Trump campaign. I wonder if Russia did not turn anything over in the end as they knew Jr. was not smart enough to avoid getting caught. This would be concrete evidence of Russian meddling. Or it might have been a test of how far the campaign was willing to go. As far as election law goes, willingness to accept or take possession of the info might be enough. This would be proof of collusion.

On a side note, I wonder how Assange feels about his role in the chaos that is US politics.

      • King Beauregard

Here’s from a recent Slate article on the subject:

A veteran DNC operative who previously worked in the Clinton White House, Alexandra Chalupa, worked with Ukrainian government officials and journalists from both Ukraine and America to dig up Russia-related opposition research on Trump and Manafort. She also shared her anti-Trump research with both the DNC and the Clinton campaign, according to the Politico report.

Chalupa met with Ukrainian ambassador Valeriy Chaly and one of his aides, Oksara Shulyar, at the Ukrainian Embassy in March 2016 to talk about unearthing Paul Manafort’s Russian connections, Chalupa admitted to Politico. Four days later, Trump officially hired Manafort. …
The Politico report also notes that the DNC encouraged Chalupa to try to arrange an interview with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to talk about Manafort’s ties to the former pro-Russia president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, whom Manafort previously advised.

What I see here is at least some people from the DNC actively working with Ukrainian officials. It’s not a matter of Ukrainians making an offer and the DNC saying “buzz off”, but rather the DNC people saying “thank you and could I ask for another favor?”

On its own it’s not a huge deal, I don’t think. But it’s not the complete nonsense that the Wonkette article makes it out to be either. It’s like the difference between teenagers drinking wine coolers and teenagers going on a moonshine-fueled shotgun murder spree. In both cases teenagers were drinking alcohol and they shouldn’t have been, but that’s not really the point.

        • commatoes

Not equally bad but bad nonetheless.

Minor distinctions can be made as to how the information is obtained (e.g. public documents or documents seized after Yanukovich fled Ukraine vs. the products of espionage or hacking). Also, whether you are willing to make the distinction between a hostile government like Russia and a “friendly” government that ousted Yanukovich. Personally, I would want nothing to do with it as it just makes me feel dirty.

          • King Beauregard

Yep. Had this been a normal election (man I can’t remember the last time we had one of those), the DNC getting a little bit of info from Ukraine might have ruffled a few feathers for a few days but would have been no more than a small footnote, and a couple people might have had to pay a $500 fine.

Myself, I find it’s healthy to recognize when even “our guys” have bent or broken the law, rather than dance around and try to build new political theory around how what Trump did was bad while what our team did was absolutely fine. That’s what I see people doing for the most part, and I don’t think it helps. It certainly doesn’t increase the distance between Us and Them. Far better just to admit it: a couple people on our team did a thing they shouldn’t have, but it’s nothing like what Trump has done, which is subordinate himself to a foreign head of state.

          • commatoes

Unfortunately, that Christian belief in forgiveness is only applied by the GOP to other GOP members. Anthony Wiener was excoriated in the press and by the GOP as committing an unforgivable sin. Bill Clinton for getting a blow job. Meanwhile, Mark Sanford, Dolt 43, Newt Gingrich, David Vitter, etc. are tolerated, if not welcomed back into the good graces of the party.

Also, blocking a SCOTUS nominee for months and then claiming that a confirmation must be done as quickly as possible.

It seems that parity too much to expect.

          • King Beauregard

To me it’s not even about fair treatment to/from the Republicans. Even within our own ranks we have more problems with people doing all kinds of finger-pointing while making like their darlings are blameless.

I get to thinking of how Hillary used the term “superpredators” with regard to some gang members, while Bernie described the same people as “deeply sick and sociopathic”. Yet somehow only one of the two was condemned for allegedly claiming that all blacks are monsters, while the other was speaking to the unfortunate realities of the time. If our side were more BS-resistant, none of that stupid argument would have ever happened.

          • commatoes

I think HRC was too focused on playing to peoples fears. She was trying to do Frank Luntz’s specialty and utterly failing. I doubt that she has ever met a former gang member or has any sense of them other than as a crime statistic.

Sanders, I hope, was being a bit more honest in his assessment from the sense I get of the man. I think he would describe the armed anti-government militias/white supremacist groups as equally “deeply sick and sociopathic”.

However, I think that the horseshoe model of the political continuum does hold some weight as the left is not BS immune.

            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horseshoe_theory

          • King Beauregard

Sanders was the guy who white-flighted to Vermont back in the 60s, while the Clinton Foundation used to be headquartered in Harlem. I would bet anything Hillary has had more day-to-day contact with blacks than Bernie has. And all in all, Hillary was saying essentially the same thing that Bernie was, so if she was engaged in fear-mongering, so was he. Or, more likely, they were both speaking to the fact that there were some seriously dangerous people on the streets back then: not all gang members, not all black gang members, and certainly not all blacks. Violent crime was undeniably on the rise, and nobody knew why, just as nobody knew why it started to fall in the mid 90s.

Though there is a very good guess:

Win one or the EPA when clean water and air were deemed a priority. (yeah I’m looking at you Scotty)

As to the Clinton quote, she was a white upperclass ivy league educated northerner raised in a republican household (I remember reading somewhere that she was a “Goldwater Girl” in her youth) that married the future governor of Arkansas. This does not excuse her use of the term but her background makes it almost expected. Much the same as Americans who have never traveled abroad have odd ideas about Europe being a socialist hellscape, etc.

PS Along with lead there is the uncomfortable correlation between abortion/contraception access and crime rate by Levitt and Dubner. Correlation because causality is impossible to prove.

          • King Beauregard

Good Lord, that “Goldwater girl” business is cynical politicking of the worst sort. When she entered college she was a Republican, but by the time she graduated she saw the light and turned liberal. And after she got out of college she put herself at risk by going undercover to expose discrimination in schools in the South (just the sort of thing that racists had zero use for). She is not the racist elitist monster the Bernie crowd tried to make her out to be, and again it speaks to how our side needs to be intellectually honest.

Gore Camp Recipient Of A Hot Potato

    September 14, 2000

WASHINGTON — A confidant of Al Gore received an unsolicited package Wednesday containing documents and a videotape that appeared to involve rival George W. Bush’s debate preparations, an aide to Gore said.

Tom Downey, a former congressman who has been helping the vice president prepare for debates against Bush, turned the material over to his lawyer. The lawyer planned to give the package to the FBI to determine whether the documents and tape were “illegally obtained from the Bush campaign,” said Gore spokesman Mark Fabiani.

“We got something we shouldn’t have and turned it over to the authorities,” said Marc Miller, Downey’s lawyer.

OT – FacePlant friend posts that University of Michigan says “only” 28% of the US population has civic science literacy–the ability to connect scientific information with policy. says it’s “science literacy”. leaves out the part in the report that says that CSL has increased by 19% over the past 2 decades and that the report qualifies that it’s higher in some groups and lower in others–patterns which the reports recommend looking at! but let’s all freak out by thinking that the report said only 28% of people in the US know anything about science.

    • …how is science literacy the ability to connect scientific information with policy?
Hell, I am a wonk and sometimes even I find the connections obscure

      • Panika MCD

the report is not on general science literacy, but what they called “civic science literacy” which they defined as, “the ability of a citizen to find, make sense of, and use information about science or technology to engage in a public discussion of policy choices involving science or technology”. FacePlant friend just decided that it was about general science literacy because I guess s/he is not civic science literate.

here’s the report. tell me if you think it’s about science literacy or something more narrow:

        http://home.isr.umich.edu/files/2016/10/NASA-CSL-in-2016-Report.pdf

        • Seems a bit more narrow yes. Also agreed.Seems to me a bit…skewedish?

Obviously Russia provided some stuff on Clinton, and Trump Jr. didn’t think it was enough. I wonder what it was? I heard that it was taped phone convos, but why offer something as oppo research if it’s not worth it?

    • Vagenda of Rebel Scum

It’s their way to offer something innocuous and see if they get a bite. That way, if Jr had gone to the FBI, there could have been deniability. Once you take the bait, they can throw out more and start reeling you in.

      • Villago Delenda Est

In retrospect, they had him squirming the the boat five seconds into the meeting.

        • Vagenda of Rebel Scum

        • Vagenda of Rebel Scum

I think it’s because the whole point of recruiting someone is not to get caught. I did read where an expert said this was very similar to the methods the Kremlin normally used, but I don’t have the link.
It’s a little like the old bait and switch with car sales- maybe innocuous was the wrong word on my part
” I have some really great info about so and so” Did they bite? How interested were they? What were they prepared to offer in return? At the first meeting be vague about the information but imply there’s much more. That way, if you’re caught, you can claim it was a misunderstanding.

  • miss_grundy

All of these Trump lickspittles should be kicked in the ass really hard whenever they bring up their “false equivalence” arguments. And I am really tired of people questioning Pres. And whenever the idiot media says they reported on this, I want to smack each and every one of them and scream “liar” to their faces. “If this continues  —  this immobilization of the presidency over these kind of things   it’s going to force Congress to do an investigation, a complete and thorough investigation, and that means go back all the way to the 650,000 emails of Anthony Weiner and look at [former FBI Director James] Comey and his activities,” King said, via ThinkProgress.

Meanwhile, Politico seems to think the pool of suspects for throwing Jr under the bus is fairly small, and only contains one person up for a share of the will

White House aides and advisers also spent part of the day guessing who was leaking — and their motivation.

Trump Jr. had looped in then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Kushner to the email chain, and included them in the meeting with the Russian lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, at Trump Tower.

“There’s only a few names on those emails,” one person close to the White House said. “And it would have to be someone out to get the president’s son.”

Right, because just being a Failing McStupidface can’t explain it.

Why do they think that a copy of that email was only viewed by the recipients. Why wouldn’t the government be surveiling a fishing expedition by an agent of the Russian State? Maybe leaking it would be a serious violation of the law, and also, conspiracy rabbitholing on my part, but the Trumps have pissed off a lot of people.

      • Carpe Vagenda

Well, my theory is that someone with a friendly ear at Politico is trying to hang it on Jared, because there’s literally no reason to assume that the people on the header of that e-mail represent a fraction of the people who saw it, even if you limit it to the US recipients.

wow, the projection, lies, and outright bullshit are incredible!:
“President Donald Trump told CBN founder Pat Robertson on Wednesday that Russian president Vladimir Putin wanted his rival Hillary Clinton to win the 2016 presidential election.

The president denied widespread reports that the Russian government had meddled in the 2016 election because they favored him. Trump said Putin didn’t like that he was a “big military person” — but that Clinton would have “decimated” the U.S. military.

“And from day one I want fracking and everything else to get energy prices low and to create tremendous energy,” he said during the interview. “We’re going to be self-supporting, we just about are now. We’re going to be exporting energy – he doesn’t want that. He would like Hillary where she wants to have windmills. He would much rather have that because energy prices would go up and Russia as you know relies very much on energy.”

“So there are many things that I do that are the exact opposite of what he would want,” Trump continued. “So what I keep hearing about that he would have rather had Trump, I think ‘probably not,’ because when I want a strong military, you know she wouldn’t have spent the money on military.”

The president complained that “nobody ever mentions” that he does things which Putin doesn’t like, such as wanting to bring America “tremendous energy” with coal and natural gas.”

What on God’s good earth would the US political press do without “both-sides,” and what, oh what in the world would Republicans do without, “we’re rubber/you’re glue/bounces off us/sticks to you”? I feel that these two ghastly phenomena are strongly correlated, reinforcing each other and acting as an extra weight of gravity that is dragging us all down into a shapeless, crushed, deformed mass of pure, wholesome, Grade A American bullshit.

    HEY! Catty McBongspittle! Here’s a news flash…..HILLARY AIN’T PRESIDENT!

  • I CONFESS! I have Russian Contacts! I have repeatedly had conversations with Russians over the course of my life! Why, a friend of mine recently went to Russia, where he had many, many conversations with MANY DIFFERENT Russians, and he then reported these conversations to me! I just can’t take the guilt, anymore!

I apologize for violating the Americans Can’t Never Speak To Russians Unless They Are Named Trump Act of Trump Supporters Just Pulled Out of Their Buttholes.

    • commatoes

So meeting a hitman to discuss a contract killing is just two people talking right?
So basically you do not believe that the US criminal statue on conspiracy exists or makes distinctions between various topics of conversation. Or are you saying that since I have never cheated on my taxes that no one else has ever cheated on their taxes? As I have never cheated on my significant other no one else has ever cheated? So, in essence, as you have never personally conspired with Russians, any charge of conspiring with Russians levied against ANY other person/group MUST be false?

Please help me understand how you came to this logical conclusion.

      • bobbert

        Recalibrate your sarcasm meter, maybe?

        • commatoes

More like “reductio ad absurdum” with sarcasm. A rhetorical device. If you posit a silly premise seriously, I will show what happens when it is universally applied until the ridiculous results.

Example, A man I ran into argued that since they found one welfare cheat in Ontario, albeit living a pretty luxurious lifestyle. He felt that as a result every welfare recipient in Ontario should be investigated for welfare fraud. Now I asked him if he had ever read or heard about someone being caught cheating on their taxes because by his logic every taxpayer in the province should be audited. Suspension of the presumption of innocence has serious consequences.

Much the same, applying the standard that ALL interactions with Russians should be considered innocuous, negates the fact that evidence has been found to the contrary.

I used sarcasm here as ridicule and irony, as the original premise was half baked if not completely idiotic.

    • ohpaleasegivemeabreak

I should probably be executed. I’ve sold things to Russians.

But I ain’t apologizen for nuttin.

  • TundraGrifter

A number of websites, led by Roger Stone [which is really all you will ever need to know about this bullshit “story,” but go ahead – keep reading], are claiming that former Clinton White House official John Podesta received $35 million from a Russian company while working for Hillary Clinton and president Obama.

    https://stonecoldtruth.com/podesta-received-35-million-from-russia-while-advising-clinton-and-obama/

A careful examination of the facts, already made by a number of media outlets, reveals that Podesta received no such money and, although carefully skirting existing federal law, did not violate it.

According to the Stone Cold Truth website:

“John Podesta, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s 2016 national campaign chairman, may have violated federal law by failing to disclose the receipt of 75,000 shares of stock from a Kremlin-financed company when he joined the Obama White House in 2014.”

The [sewer] outlet also states that Podesta appears to be linked to a $35 million transaction between a Kremlin-funded company and a company he sat on the board of.

As usual, Stone went big with his headline and immediately backtracked in the text that followed it.

The “outlet” that Roger Stone’s website cites is none other than Breitbart, which published essentially the same story back in March of this year.

    http://www.breitbart.com/video/2017…etails-john-podesta-may-violated-federal-law/

Did Podesta receive $35 million dollars from a “Kremlin-financed company”?

Prior to joining the Obama administration, Podesta was on the board of Joule Unlimited Technologies from 2010 to 2014. Joule developed “commercial-scale production of ethanol made from carbon dioxide,” according to the McClatchy News Service.

During that time, Rusnano USA, the “Kremlin-financed company” Stone refers to, invested $35 million in Joule. Overall, Joule received approximately $200 million from outside investors. The parent company of Rusnano USA is JSC RUSNANO, which is a Russian state enterprise.

    http://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-government/election/article109203877.html

So, Podesta never received $35 million dollars while he worked for Obama or Clinton. His company did when he was a board member, from another company that was controlled by the Russian government.

Did Podesta violate federal law by failing to disclose shares in Joule Unilimited Technologies?

The Huffington Post looked into this issue in March right after the Breitbart story.

Before leaving Joule in December 2014 to become a special advisor for the Obama administration, Podesta received 75,000 shares of common stock from the company, which he then transferred to Leonidio Holdings, a Delaware-based corporation managed by his daughter Megan Rouse.

Podesta never claimed these stocks on his disclosure forms (attached) because, according to federal law, he was a “new entrant” into federal service, even though he had served in Bill Clinton’s White House from 1993 to 2001.

  • Love the names. “Skittles McDingDong” indeed!

  • Delu

That politico article is being quoted by Trumpians as an “oh look! Hillary is the REAL colluder!!!”

Missing from their exquisite analysis however is the fact that the Russian “interference” was all about discrediting Hillary while the Ukrainian “interference” was about showing how Russia is interfering through one Paul Manafort (plus they didn’t do any hacking).

Also, this story about Ukrainian “interference” only came to light due to an email account being hacked then put up on wikileaks, so in all likelihood the information came from Russian hackers so using such information is like totally also using information that came from a country interfering in the elections (it’s interference-ception or something)!

  • Mavenmaven

        • CafeenMan

One of the many reasons why I keep saying that right wingers are emotionally-retarded. It’s all about hurting other people because they can’t take personal responsibility for the fact that they never amounted to anything.

So the GOP “leadership” and their media wing keep telling the wing nut base why all their problems are someone else fault.

          • Le Chapeau

Well said, although “emotionally manipulated” might be a better phrase. Most don’t have critical thinking skills, and are vulnerable emotionally to the lies they are being told.

          • CafeenMan

“Emotionally manipulated” also too. But the reason I say, ’emotionally-retarded’ is because they are. I don’t mean that as a way of name-calling. I mean it as a real thing.

They are driven by things they think piss off liberals. They don’t care if they screw themselves in the process.

Think about some of the things they do such as “rolling coal”.

They take a perfectly good truck and ruin it so that it gets way worse gas-mileage and pumps out a lot of black smoke.

Then they drive around looking for someone they believe to be a liberal just so they can pour smoke all over them.

            That’s not emotionally-manipulated. It’s emotionally-retarded.

          • Le Chapeau

Point taken. It’s all about the limbic system. Hell, I distinctly remember my grandfather, in the early 1960s complaining about how farmers were always voting for Republicans against their best interests. This has been going on for a long time.

Making a dogged effort to be forgiving and nice, I will say that it’s a real shame about Kayleigh McEnany. She’s a Harvard law graduate and decidedly beautiful. She had quite a bit going for her, it would appear, before she “sold her soul to the world’s stupidest devil” and committed herself to talking and writing like a moron. Now, unless she sees some light, she may come to look like Kellyanne Conway before she’s done, in fulfilment of the prophecy that God and your parents give you the face you’re born with, but you make the one you die with.
