      French Press is the best!

It’s Sally Yates on the Hill Day. Expect GOP senators not wanting to ask a question that they don’t know the answer to, will go all Ryan Seacrest and limit their questions to ‘Who are you wearing, Sally’.

Paul Krugman: “What really stands out, however, is the Orwell-level dishonesty of the whole effort. As far as I can tell, every word Republicans, from Trump on down, have said about their bill — about why they want to replace Obamacare, about what their replacement would do, and about how it would work — is a lie, including ‘a,’ ‘and’ and ‘the.’”

Yes, they are all lies, Paulie – bright shiny lies, told with sincerity and polished just so, in order to continue gulling the poor gormless idiots who voted them into power.

    • John Thorstensen

      It’s been deleted?

Is that even legal any more? I thought that major public figures (especially the president) had to preserve stuff? Or is that just for the POTUS account, not for his (clearly and indubitably separate in his capacity as a private citizen) personal account?

Virginia’s gubernatorial race is already a shit show after good ol’ boy Corey Stewart continues to defend the Confederate flag, and drag the other Republican candidates down.

    Hey Corey,
Remember the state you come from? Lookie what we have. We took your slavery defender’s flag from you losers in battle and are never giving it back.

So, looks like the EPA has essentially become a lobbying firm for extractive industries. The Environmental Destruction Agency.

    • Biel_ze_Bubba

It’s the Texas model. The “regulator” of the oil and gas industries is actually tasked with promoting those industries.
Maybe that’s why it’s called the “Railroad Commission”: they’ll railroad anybody who gets in their way.

      • alwayspunkindrublic

In all this swath of destruction, the environmental one has me the most stabby. Not to minimize human misery, but once protected wilderness is gone and into the hands of industry and cronies, it’s gone forever.

    • CogitoErgoBibo

I accidentally caught his interview with Kasich on healthcare from this past Friday. I didn’t stick around for the rest, but quite enjoyed listening to that exchange. Shameful secret: I started life as a Republican. Back when they thought government should be small enough to not care what you do in your bedroom or with your own body. I might still be a Republican if more of them cared about people the way Kasich does. Well, maybe at least.

      • Anna Elizabeth

I used to be a Republican as well, back when I was trying to join the Marines or Navy. George “Read My Lips” H.W. Bush cured me, and my first POTUS election when I was of age, I voted for Bill Clinton.

There isn’t anything inherently wrong with being a Republican, or at least there doesn’t *have* to be anythign wrong about it. It’sthese choices they all are making to be evil and willfully stupid.

        • CogitoErgoBibo

Amen. Labels are just labels. I can certainly get behind McCain, Miss Lindsey or Kasich on specific issues. Of course, then the next day they’ll say something which makes me just shake my head and dislike them again. But it takes all kinds. It’s certainly better that there are moderate Republicans out there. It beats the alternative.

          • Anna Elizabeth

I was a kid in the 80s, and I recall at least a functioning government. I was a Republican as a teenager that knew it all, figured on the Cold War going Hot, and was glad that Ronnie Raygun promised a 600-ship Navy and bought all kinds of jets and tanks.

Also too, Dear Old Dad was a Democrat, and I was rebelling in any safe way I could,

          • CogitoErgoBibo

That makes sense. I can see how that would happen. My mom basically explained that for local office, the GOP option always won. So the important decisions were made in GOP primaries, meaning that I needed to register as a Republican to have a voice in the important decisions. I had hippie parents, but they were pragmatists. I sort of appreciated that.

          • Anna Elizabeth

I can understand their argument, I really can’t say “no” to that.

      • From Russia with Love

“Back when they thought government should be small enough to not care what you do in your bedroom or with your own body.”

If I keep on waking up every day, I’ll be 63 on Wednesday. And I don’t remember a Republican party like the one you have described.

        • CogitoErgoBibo

I grew up in the south back when we voted Republican for local offices and either Dem or GOP for national offices, because the differences weren’t so vast. So it could just be my limited exposure to the southern version of this. In Tennessee, they really were those mythical “fiscally conservative/socially responsible” variety of Republican. Obviously, not so much anymore. And I’m in my 50s, so it sure wasn’t recent.

      • Carpe Vagenda

Sadly he cares more than I’m strictly comfortable with what goes on in bedrooms, and uteri.

        • CogitoErgoBibo

That part I certainly agree with. I’m definitely not down with that.

          • Carpe Vagenda

Remember Lindsay? But then, of course, they used Rockefeller to roadtest the “war on crime” and it all went to hell.

      • bupkus231

Kasich is no more trustworthy than Rump. He’s just a little more vulnerable to “public opinion” against his often extreme conservative views. Don’t believe the hype!

For reasons that escape me, that site is blocked by my Big Corporate Employer’s net nanny. Of course, we do provide an interweb service, so maybe we’re already shoving cash under the table to make sure we’s the fastest and purttiest at what we do. That could explain a lot.

        Net neutrality much?

  • Johnatx

Slightly OT. Looks like MSNBC just hired George Will. Why?

    • Beowoof14

As with Greta, they want to kill their ratings. No other explanation makes sense.

Today in People Not Showing Up To Vote, San Antonio had an election on Saturday. It was a fairly little one, just the mayor and city council, plus a few bonds and school board in some districts. Over a million people live in San Antonio. Guess how many people voted? Less than 100,000. Not even 10%. Come on, y’all.

    • eyelashviper

Just imagine if they could vote on their phones, puters, etc., where so many spend their lives now.

      • chortlingdingo

That’d be amazing, but Texas will never do it because “voter fraud.”

        • After all the hackin that has gone on lately, that may be the one time I would agree with Texas on voter frauding

          • chortlingdingo

            Fair point.

      • Elvis Causticfellow

When you put it like that it makes me wonder why Breitbart and 4chan commenters haven’t tried to start campaigns to get more polling places set up in their moms’ basements.

    • ltmcdies

      and on a week end….

      • chortlingdingo

Plus something like 2 weeks of early voting.

    • miss_grundy

But how many of the million people who live in San Antonio will start bellyaching when the mayor or the city council deal with an issue they don’t like? And the election was on a Saturday? How hard was it for people to get to their precincts to vote?

      • chortlingdingo

Yeah, I have no patience for people who complain about elected officials but don’t bother to vote.

It is friggin impossible to keep up with all the basura and caca flowing from the tRump administration and congress..
The head of the VA now planning to CLOSE more than a thousand VA facilities and offer privatization (yeah, no insurance, no service) to some vets.

appreciate you getting on that. Weird that you left out that you, yourself, helped flog the purity movement so very very often.
Just figured I would point that out. How’s things? K, thnx.

I hope Ms. Yates throws lots of verbal Molotov cocktails at the Cheetolini’s administration as possible–and without benefit of votes.
