Or for however many decades he’s there.

Well, well, well, looks like Neil Gorsuch officially gets to sit in Antonin Scalia’s fart-stained seat on the Supreme Court. After human turtle-head Mitch McConnell blew up the Senate rules Thursday, because it’s just not faaaaaaair for the Senate to have to abide by Senate rules when a Republican president’s SCOTUS nominee is under consideration, it was only a matter of hours before they convened for their final vote, which was 54-45, with Democrats Heidi Heitkamp, Joe Manchin and Joe Donnelly crossing the line to say they’re scared they’ll lose in 2018 if they don’t do what the Republicans say. Three cheers for the vulnerable Democratic senators up for re-election in 2018 who decided it was OK to grow a pair of balls and vote “No.”

Here’s what the organizers of the Women’s March think about that:

UH OH!

Anyway, it’s been a long journey to getting this seat filled. It started when a rogue pillow murdered Antonin Scalia’s face to death in Texas, at which point illegitimate Democrat president Barry Soetoro Nobummer nominated a man named Merrick Garland to fill Scalia’s Supreme Court seat, apparently under the impression Democrat presidents are allowed to do that. So Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made sure Garland would never get a vote, because of the rule he made up about No Supreme Court Nominations Near The End Of Democrat Presidencies.

If Hillary Clinton had won the Electoral College, she would have made a nomination, and McConnell would have stalled for four more years, due to the rule he just made up about No Supreme Court Nominations For Chicks Named Hillary, but instead Trump squeaked out a win, and therefore it was time to blow up Senate rules to get his guy in there, and any Democrats who don’t like that are APPALLING and WELL I NEVER.

So now, we have a dude on the court who thinks Hobby Lobby shouldn’t be required to give ladies slut pill insurance because Jesus, and truckers should lose their jobs if they’re not willing to freeze to actual literal death, and companies should be free to fuck their employers over when they’re being lazy and refusing to come to work, just because they have a wee spot of leukemia.

Great job, Senate Republicans. Our only hope is that in 20 years, we will be hearing the GOP bellyache about how Neil Gorsuch turned all gay and liberal like David Souter did after Poppy Bush stucked him on the court. Somehow, though, we think Neil Gorsuch sucks Dead Scalia’s dusty balls and he won’t do that.

Well now that we are stuck with Justice* Gorsuch, how long until the lawsuits to overturn Roe v Wade and restore the Federal DOMA are filed?

Also we need to primary the hell out of Heitkamp, Manchin, and Donnelly, with votes.

    • Gayer Than Thou

For the moment, the voting balance is probably unchanged from when Satan Scalia was on the court. (And, you know, possibly better, if only because it’s hard to imagine another judge as hateful and mean as Scalia was.) It’s the next death, if that happens to be a liberal, that will be the bigger problem along those lines.

      • theblackdog

There’s already rumors that with the Kennedy kids being friends with the Trump kids that they might be trying to bend his ear to retire :-/

      • theblackdog

They have a point, but seriously, why do the Dems have to be the ones that should be accepting of him just because there’s a chance, maybe a slight one, that he’ll vote with them? As it is the Repubs basically demand purity to their party but Dems are supposed to do the opposite? It seems to be working for them.

Now I know this also depends on actually putting up a good candidate which it being W VA is not likely to happen but at the same time, I’m not convinced that Manchin basically isn’t just a DINO when it comes to the big issues anyway.

        • Lascauxcaveman

“…Now I know this also depends on actually putting up a good candidate which it being W VA is not likely to happen …”

That’s basically the whole deal, right there. In that state, the best you can hope for is someone who votes like a Democrat some of the time; which is the incumbent, Manchin.

  • Blackest Noobs

those of us who have resisted going the full anarchy are now another step closer to it.
pack your snacks, this ride gonna get bumpy.

  • Gayer Than Thou

I genuinely do not know how to feel about our coming for red-state Democratic senators who voted for Gorsuch. On the one hand, we should resist Twitler everywhere and always and in all ways. On the other hand, I have the instinct that red-state Democratic senators are who they are for a reason (i.e., “red state”), and even if they’re not so fabulous politically, numbers also matter, and they count on our side when it comes to deciding who’s in leadership and so forth. But on the third hand, it feels like a betrayal. Luckily, it’s Friday, which means there’s a Martini waiting for me at the end of the day.

    • janecita

      Just one?

    • Prof. T. Green Bastard

What does it matter if they’re blue when they (almost) always vote red, tho?

      • Gayer Than Thou

Because they count as blue for purposes of deciding whether we have a “majority” or not, and because every Democrat in office empowers other Democrats (by being an example, by whom they actually hire as staff and for campaigns, and by freeing up lower-level offices). I’m not saying it’s the most compelling argument, but it’s not nothing.

        • goonemeritus

Exactly, if you don’t keep this in mind the next thing you know you are driving around with a Jill Stein bumper sticker on your Subaru.

          • Prof. T. Green Bastard

Nope. The concept of a majority is not so difficult or so basic an idea that I’d lose sight of it to become a ridiculous purity pony, thanks.

        • Prof. T. Green Bastard

I def. get that, its just that they were elected as Dems so it would seem possible for a good Dem candidate to win again. Unless they were elected by ppl who totally knew they were DINOs which… just seems overly complicated & not usually a successful gamble.

    • msanthropesmr

So long as you don’t put vodka in that martini, I can concur with your message.

      • Anna Rompage

Someone should really come up with another name for a vodka martini!

I mean a bourbon martini is known as a manhattan, so I think it’s only fair.

        • msanthropesmr

          I call it
          “Cat piss in a glass”

          • Anna Rompage

Now now, some folks are put off by the lovely, well balanced flavor of juniper combined with other exoctic botanicals…

And if you use potato vodka, there’s not that astringent, sour, kat piss like finish you get with grain based vodkas…

          • marxalot

Potato vodka also doesn’t leave you with anything like the onrushing train hangover. Though the smooth stuff is sneakiness itself when trying to count your drinks.

        • marxalot

With an onion, it’s a Gibson. A Manhattan is sweet vermouth only; a Mexico City is tequila and dry; perhaps a (potato) vodka and vermouth cocktail, olive garnish, could be a Warsaw? That lends itself to hangover jokes.

          • DrBigHead

And with an onion, a Krakow?

      • Gayer Than Thou
      • chortlingdingo

Vesper martinis are the way to go:

3 oz. gin (Gordon’s, if you wanna be Bond-authentic)
        1 oz. vodka
1/2 oz. Lillet Blanc (they don’t make Kina Lillet anymore. It had quinine in it. You can add a tiny dash of bitters to replicate the taste, if you want.)

Shake with ice until super cold. Serve with a large, thin piece of lemon peel.

I can tell you from experience to splurge on good gin, and that the colder you can get this, the tastier it is.

    • goonemeritus

The sometimes enemy of our enemy is sometimes our friend.

    • marxalot

Thing is, regardless of leadership, if they don’t vote with the party, they’re useless as far as pressure goes. You can have a Democratic “majority,” but if the party has to whip hell out of its own members, and Dems are constantly voting with the other guys, you may as well not have anything.

      • Gayer Than Thou

I hear you, but I’d still rather we had a majority. Obviously, at some point it’s irrelevant if they’re all just Republicans in disguise, but at the end of the day I think that I’m not going to get behind ousting Democrats who voted the wrong way on hopeless causes at a time when I think we need to increase our total numbers. What I am going to get behind at the end of the day, as I mention above, is a stiff drink. Or really, a stiff anything.

    • Roni Raven, Just Microwavin’

That is a smashing idea. I’m going straight to BevMo for gin as soon as I get off work.

Obama should have appointed judge Garland on his way out.

        • Jennifer R

Recess appointments are statutorily limited to a single year IIRC, along with other technical issues.

        • Tj McGee Wright

I think he concluded that that wasn’t a practically viable option.

          • puredog

Part of it was that Garland would have hit his sell-by date after only a year on the S.Ct. under a recess appointment, while he is now continuing to do yeoman work on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, commonly referred to as the nation’s second-most important appellate court, and will continue to do so until he dies or retires. A great deal of the impetus for the Dems’ 2013 partial filibustericide was the refusal of the Reps to confirm Obama’s DC Circuit appointments. It’s a big deal.

Pillow? I thought Tony gathered up a party of a couple hundred of his closest friends and toasted them good night with ‘Thanks for coming, I’m tired of feeling sick and bad all the time and you won’t have Tony to kick around any more. Good night and have fun.” and then his family refused the autopsy because they were afraid that the priests wouldn’t let Tony into heaven or even into the ‘best’ graveyard and they would be stuck with his fat asshes on the mantel *just when they thought they had finally got him out of the house*. Or the family could have actually liked him and my theory does not hold water, who knows.

The problem with voting Heidi Heitkamp out is that there isn’t a single person in North Dakota to the left of her who has a snowball’s chance in hell of winning an election here. She’s the best we’re going to get.

    • puredog

Yeah, I knew Heidi some years ago. I have always thought her tacking right was constituent-centric self-preservation. I would not be surprised to hear she was the best option out there.

Bet that changes quick when all the CRP money dries up leaving the owners of much of the state’s viable acreage without their payments to keep their land fallow. Make no mistake, ND has a storied history of bringing Federal largess back to the Peace Garden State and has never been shy to take what’s offered and even electing Democrats (!) to Congress to put the screws to ’em for every dime. Having lived in ND for about 3 years, it was pretty clear Bismarck could pretty much get whatever it wanted from the Federal govt, and did, all the time. The “skinny” budget being proposed leaves little for programs now responsible for subsidizing many ND residents basic existence, not to mention every other state straddling the 100th Meridian.

Illegitimate supreme nominated by an illegitimate president and confirmed by partisan, anti-constitution thieves in the Senate. Fuck all of them.

    • You forgot the “alleged” treason!

      • Iam Reading

You are correct in the sense that I didn’t write it down. But trust me I haven’t forgot not one little bit. I wore the uniform for 22 years. This shit is very personal for me

I hate to tell Donnelly, Manchin and Heitkamp this, but your vote for Gorsuch is not going to energize your base. And you will not be able to out right wing the GOP again. As with all the Dems that tried to distance themselves from Obama and the ACA in 2012 and 2014, you will lose. Because as opposed to the mistaken idea that Clinton was really a Republican, you guys really are DINOs. And since Gorsuch was going to win anyway, your vote did nothing but distance yourself from the Democratic Party and left leaning independents. It will not help you when you face a Republican and say “well, I voted for Gorsuch” because they would have also. I was hoping you would have shown a little more common sense and realized that.

Tom Servo does the best “game over, man…” I just don’t know how to make it happen in non-existent comments.

I still maintain that Scalia died of the Revenge of the Montezuma Quail since that’s what he was planning on shooting at that day.

  • persistently_resistant_gayby

Berniebros and Steinbots – you’ve finally made your case, you ignorant little shits.

Also, Heitkamp, Manchin, Donnelly – you’re dead to me.
