Hey there, Wonketariat! We hope you had as much fun as we did taking the vagenda to the streets this weekend! Trump’s people tried to shove a couple of things under the rug while we were fighting the good fight, so here’s some of the things that we should probably be talking about today, plus assorted nonsense we might NOT!

[I am wearing MAKEUP! — Editrix]

  • And here’s some musical nice time from SNL paying tribute to America’s new favorite deep-fried fibber and fashion failure, Kellyanne Conway!

Bullshit. Wikidicks got caught mocking the march and their fans went all ….whut??? So they are latching on to the tax returns to go back to pretending

    • alwayspunkindrublic

Wikileaks mocked the march? Who would’ve thought someone with such a high opinion of women as Assange would do such a thing?

      • Right? Who would EVER think that such a paragon of truth and virtue so long as Putin says so would be such a prick?

    • Brendan_M

Russian propaganda outlets Sputnik and RT also ran some negative stories, so this may be all part of the Kremlin plan to weaken and delegitimize the United States or a direct warning to Trump that he better return the favor and lift sanctions soon.

  • Bill D. Burger

Spicer self immolated and is now DOA as a credible press secretary forever. PERIOD.

    • Brendan_M

I think the meme is you say something false and follow it with a “period”. What you wrote is true, I hope, if the press corps has any integrity.

      • They don’t, and hence the irony

        • Brendan_M

I am cautiously optimistic that these fuckers in the Trump administration are such brazen liars and unmitigated assholes that they’ll make journalists of even the sad likes of Wolf Blitzer. Bob Woodward is terrible, but he helped take down Nixon; when the foil is so villainous, even the mediocre can rise to the occasion.

For example, CNN, the saddest of cable news networks, refused to air Sean Spicer’s press conference live because they were concerned he would spread falsehoods and didn’t want be complicit in that. They’re learning!

          • cmd resistor

I will give NPR some points today. The reporter who covers the CIA talked about the Trump visit there and went through every false thing he said and called them falsehoods, explaining why each one was, (I suppose they are working up to “lies.”) She said her CIA sources were pretty pissed with him acting like he was mending fences when all he was doing was saying the nasty press created this fake news that he was against them. Never apologized for the stuff he said about them. She also mentioned him standing in front of that wall of stars for agents who died, and that what he was facing as he spoke was a wall on the other side with an inscribed Bible verse, “And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” The reporter actually sounded pretty pissed.

          • Brendan_M

Yeah, the MSM is finally learning how to cover Trump. David Farenthold and others figured it out months ago, but now even Chuck Todd is calling out the lies. It would have been doing this in the pre-11/9 era, but better late than never.

This is one of the better write-ups I saw for the CIA fiasco. http://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/trumps-vainglorious-affront-to-the-c-i-a

Yeah. But I’ve seen him work a room. If you don’t see through him he really can be charming.

          • cmd resistor

I have a cousin-in-law like that. I’ve never bought the charm thing but others seem to. I’ve read that Trump can be although I kind of think I wouldn’t buy it either.

          • Alternative Pony Ron

            Can we substitute ‘low cunning’?

          • alwayspunkindrublic

Other than “charming” and “High IQ”, it’s pretty much a perfect match, innit?

      • Shan

        So sad and…telling.

        • V4Virginia, NASTY!

          Yeah, who’d’a thunk it?

          *head explodes with rage*

      • cmd resistor

I saw another photo of him all the way up the steps while she had just gotten out of the car on the other side. What a dipshit. As is my brother, who posted a comment to the effect that liberal women hate Trump because he has brought masculinity back into style. Apparently we are beside ourselves with rage.

        • Stulexington

Except the masculinity they pine actually included chivalry. They just want to behave like dicks and not get called on it.

          • Shan

Chivalry? Enh. That’s just another form of benevolent sexism. No thanks.

          • Stulexington

Oh entirely agree, I’d rather see everyone hold the door open for each other instead of it being something only men do for women, just as an example.

          • cmd resistor

Plus, it’s not just whether she needed help walking up the steps, but the fact that he was oblivious to her presence and didn’t bother to wait for her to walk up there together.

          • YoBunnyBunny

This. I don’t interpret the Obamas gesture to be that of the “benevolently sexist chivalry” but just being gracious and decent and wanting to make Melania feel as included in the pomp and ceremony as she is justly entitled as FLOTUS (whether I like her or not). They were nice enough to correct Trump’s tacky faux pas (because they actually know how things are done).

        • You need to tell your brother that if he thinks Trump is masculine, he ain’t never getting laid

          • cmd resistor

He claims he didn’t vote for him but would still rather trash liberals and nasty women by defending him. I was so tempted to say that, or at least something along those lines. (Years ago he told me that a marriage should be run like a business with one person (of course the man) being the CEO. Was tempted to tell him I didn’t see too many lining up to work for him. Although I was always kind of surprised he didn’t find some subservient religious person to marry him. I’ve found the best way to respond to crap like he posts is to ignore it, because he likes to pontificate and expects people to react and it frustrates him when we don’t engage.

          • puredog

Or, at least, never getting laid by anyone worth getting laid by.

        • Alternative Pony Ron

‘Masculinity’? Really? Is that Newspeak for ‘being a douchebro’?

          • cmd resistor

            Yes.

No wonder all the Trump trolls have suddenly poofed off the internet

        • Brendan_M

One reason the IC recognized Russian involvement in the election here was that they used the same tactics they’ve used throughout Europe and in France and Germany’s current elections and in the Ukraine several years ago. Their propaganda services and paid trolls spread lies about Russian troops not being in Crimea for weeks in order to confuse the situation for tactical gain.

I sometimes wonder exactly what it is that motivates authoritarians like Putin to grab more and more land and power. Third World dictators are in unstable situations and are motivated at least partly by insecurity. Insane dictators like Hitler or Pol Pot (or Kim Jong Un) are motivated by absolute ideologies. But Putin? Neither of those describe him. What’s his deal?

How concentrated has wealth become in the globalized modern world? Here’s one answer: Just eight of the richest people on earth own as much combined wealth as half the human race.

That’s a notable change from last year, when it was reckoned to take 62 of the superrich to match the assets of the 3.6 billion people in the poorer half of mankind.

Well Trump totally won’t even talk to her and you know what a huge crush he has on Putin.

Yeah, I wonder if Putin knows about it.

Made a careful read of the American-Interest article linked down below. Worth the effort, tho my jaw hurts from clinching in anger. So Trump had another venture going belly up in November (Toronto Hotel) and the press had nadda to say about it or very little, not to even mention his partner is a shady dude with financial associates with ties to the Russian mafia boss Sergei Mikhaylov. This is just one of the many Russian ties going back decades.

I hope the right people read this and check into it.

My worry is that it is a complicated issue with lots of names that are hard to spell and say for ‘mericans.

        • OddMan

And the fact that it came out on Dec 19, 2016 means this information has been out there for a month and what has been reported about it? It is very complicated and there are a ton of things to check out, but I don’t know if anyone is doing it.

All these dealings with Russian Oligarchs and mobsters took place right under the NY FBI unit, and that makes me very suspect.

Pretty funny. The Big Cat has taken to prefacing every other statement with “Speaking as an old married man…“. And I am trying to get used to wearing a ring. It’s the custom, in my family, for our men not to wear jewelry, aside from a wedding band or a regimental ring. So, I’ve never worn a ring before and it feels kinda…weird. In a nice way, mind you.

Kellyanne Conway doesn’t deserve it, but Kate McKinnon sure as hell does.

Kellyanne, but capable of shame, is a good character and a great comedic tool, so I can forgive it.

And the revival of musicals is one of the few good trends in recent years. Hamilton on the stage, La La Land in theaters (haven’t seen it, but the reviews seem solid), and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend on TV.

eh fuck it all “nationalistic white hetero male above all” sucks and we can all fight it together. we can play pissing games and i know that white women have privileges that black men and black women don’t have. in some cases black men have privileges that women of any color dont have. like the ability to feel safe on the street at night. but i think the march on saturday showed that we can all stop comparing who has what rights and what privilege and we are committed to working together. i am committed to fighting racism and climate change denial and discrimination of immigrants and discrimination of lgbt people and shit, a lot more stuff that trump is shitting on as we speak.

a friend of mine is asking for progressives to put their names up for school board. i’m considering it. as a college librarian, i’m certainly passionate about education. i’m just kind of an introvert who prefers working in the background, but getting involved is too important, yeah? he also wants someone for the planning committee and while my husband would be perfect (he loves that stuff), he’s not a citizen. • Red Bird Resistance Engineer

Have to agree there. They spent more time discussing the violence of the left than the issues. The women’s march was peaceful so they had to dig up isolated cases to make it look bad.

And to that woman who said that the violence is the reason that people are turning to Trump is an idiot. Trump get elected by spewing violent rhetoric. So if the response to him is violence, it is his fault.

“They spent more time discussing the violence of the left than the

        • rebecca

why yes, that’s EXACTLY what I said! Have you considered a writing career at Breitbart?

          • ya know, if it is what you said it is a pretty good cut at Jan. Being as putting a heel on the throat of civil liberty sounds pretty bad thing to me ^.^

          • canes_pugnaces

No, that’s not exactly what you said (if this is, indeed Ms. Editrix), and no I have not considered a writing career at Breitbart (I’m doing fine making Hollywood pablum), although I do derive some sort of sadistic pleasure from reading the comments there before dry heaving for an hour. But to your point: Jan Brewer has been a mouthpiece and enabler of some of the worst tea party, right wing vitriol imaginable, and in my opinion should be given no quarter. Your choice.

          • Pst, it really was not exactly what she said, so there is that
If it was, it would not have been a compliment at all, so your entire holier than thou attempt is sort of moot, but funny!
And it would be masochistic pleasure, because I assure you, it hurts no one else even a bit if you read…anything at all.

          • canes_pugnaces

I did mean to write masochistic, but was also working. Oh well. Too lazy to edit.

Perhaps Rebecca simply should have launched herself over the table at Brewer and set her teeth in her throat. Would that have been sufficient to establish her liberal bona fides for you?
And if reading the comments here makes you “dry heave for an hour,” I wonder what sort of commentary meets with your approval.

          • C4TWOMAN

Are you for realz? The interview was like 2 -3 minutes? And there were six people who were expected to speak? Rebecca used the limited time she had efficiently to help people, not to grandstand.

There’s a time for being right and there’s a time for being effective.

        • Shan

It was a backhanded compliment and meant to highlight the fact that the rest of the GOP is still hell bent on destroying Obamacare and it will have a real life effect on millions of people, including Editrix and her family.

Maybe it was too subtle for you? Try watching it a few more times to see if you can catch it.

          • Right? Am I mad here?
Since when is putting your heel on the throat of civil liberties…a good thing?
I mean it is sort of like gee, thanks for breaking my arm, that was great!

          • rebecca

it wasn’t a backhanded compliment t all! I meant it. She did a good thing with expanded Medicaid when most GOP governors wouldn’t and I think we should commend them when they do something commendable.

Of course, “expanding Medicaid” and “putting your boot on the throat of civil liberties” aren’t the same thing, but who can be expected to listen at times like these?

          • Personally, I sort of like the putting your boot on the throat of civil liberties better XD
            Cause…Jan.
But the medicate expansion thing was a good thing

          • Shan

She did a good thing, yes, but is she going to stand up for the people in her state, I wonder? States could retain every aspect of the ACA if they wanted to, couldn’t they? There’s no reason it has to be a Federal law, right?

          • Sorta does not work as well if it is not a country wide thing. Because insurance companies will simply bully individual states.
            Could work though, maybe

          • Shan

I wonder if there’s any information out there on just how well – or even better off – the insurance industry is with 20M extra customers due to the ACA.

          • doktorzoom

            (She’s also Ex-Gov, now)

          • Shan

            (Oh)

          • canes_pugnaces

I certainly paid attention to the expanded Medicaid. And that was nice. Hooray. However, there were also a number of serious ethical and constitutional infractions under her stewardship. I love your *(whatever this is)*, but I am fatigued with progressives playing nice with people who do not reciprocate.

          • Bub the Hoohah! loving Zombie

So what would have been the correct approach, in your opinion. Snarling “you are a loathsome fucking bitch!” every time Brewer attempted to speak? Vitriol tends not to convince many people, and will in fact be seized on as an example of how your side is uncouth, uncivil and wrong, vitiating any actual facts and arguments you might present. We see quite enough of that crap from the Rethugs.

          • C4TWOMAN

You don’t have to defend yourself(unless you want to, of course!). You were solid and savvy. And calling out that that Tea Party chick made my day. Some people wouldn’t be happy with anything less than ranting “for the people” complete with revolutionary slogans and arm bands. That’s what one does at the protest, not in a sit down interview. So I wouldn’t sweat it.
            =^-^=

          • puredog

        • Pissed de Résistance

No, I believe he means fuck off and die, but let’s check with Vecchio just to make sure.

        • Vecchioivan

I mean she totally disarmed Brewer by praising her for doing something. Sort of like giving an obstreperous child a gob stopper. Or a dog a bone.

          • canes_pugnaces

I’d say it’s more like trying to reward an enraged pit bull, who is a recidivist child mauler.

          • If your example is as listed, you simply do not understand how werds works.
            So there is that!

        • He is not entirely correct.
The Federal government IS the American People.

          • BadKitty904

I don’t believe that’s entirely true of the current federal government. Poll after poll has shown that the GOPee agenda does not reflect the beliefs, preferences, or concerns of the majority of Americans. That divide will become broader and deeper under the current, radical junta.

~ Sean Spicer: brash brawler in frontline of Trump’s ‘war with the media’ – period ~

“Surrounded by liberal classmates, he began to think of himself as Republican. His agenda wasn’t particularly partisan – working to ban smoking in a dining hall, fighting for cable TV in the dorms. But the seeds of his contentious relationship with the press had already been sown.

“‘I am writing in response to the article in the 26 April edition of the Voice in which my name was misspelled,’” he wrote to his school paper in 1993. While the paper had told him it had been unintentional, he believed ‘that it was a malicious and intentional attack’.”

The paper had called him ‘Sean Sphincter’.

The upside is I can become a permanent troll right back in wingnuts’ faces. “Oh, you like ‘alternative’ facts? Ok, well, Trump eats fetuses.”. “But, but, but, you can’t DO that, it’s demonstrably false”. “Sure I can, just following in YOUR footsteps, fuckface!”. “Nooooo, only WE get to have alternate facts! It’s a one way street! Liberals are supposed to be ‘tolerant’, ‘fact based’, and ‘compromising’!!!”. “Nope. Fuck you and your lie-enabling party of lying shitheels. Trump eats fetuses for lunch. I read it, I want to believe it, so I believe it, the end. Did I mention Fuck You?”.

I am going to do that 100% of the time, and only to Republicans. ALL of them. I’m sure they’ll all get pissy, but it’s really no different than their inane “wanna tissue to cry in, snowflake?”. I look forward to saying exactly that *constantly* to them over the next (years/months/days). It’s kinda ‘freeing’ to say “I don’t care what your ‘facts’ are, loser! Hahahahahaha”.
