This is Donald Trump getting tomatoed.

Things are awful busy here in the wilds of Montana, as we prep the #Wonkebago to drive allllllll the way across the country just in time to buy you beers and chicken wings while we watch the ‘Naug and throw things at the teevee, AND march with all you nasty women in DC!

(Are you on the way from Montana to DC? Do you have a driveway that is at least 29 feet long? Do you want us to stay in it? Do you have wine? Email rebecca at thisheremommyblog dot com!)

What When Where Why How and Who!

    See you there!!

  • dslindc

Oh hey! I live in the DC! I wasn’t planning on leaving the apartment on the 20th, but a Wonkette drinky thing is a good reason to bend that rule. I shall try to be there and to the march on Saturday!

  • kindness

For those of you who do go to DC, make us proud. No don’t get arrested. Do hold up signs The Donald will Twittertantrum about though.

    • C4TWOMAN

Oh yes. He and his team have almost no impulse control. Give them something to cry about.

    • theCryptofishist

Wait, getting arrested is a perfectly valid tactic. Only get arrested if you want to and are prepared to make it into proper civil disobedience.

      • C4TWOMAN

Which takes planing and competence from both the organizers, and ideally, law enforcement. These days I’m against it, unless you’re pale-faced and come from a solidly middle class family who knows a good lawyer.

  • Martini Ambassador

I made pussyhats for the friends I know that will be marching. The Wonkhat is equally awesome. I will be with all of you in spirit. Give ’em hell!

    I don’t believe I’m typing this….

    Re: Anarchists:
Don’t confuse them with Black Block wankers who break shit because of “The Man”. Anarchism says that only individuals can make moral choices and any state force is immoral. So, for instance, they don’t believe in calling the police except in extreme circumstances.

I’m not one, but I’ve known a couple, very active in environmentalism and animals rights, and they find the “lifestle” anarchists just as annoying as the rest of us. And oh god, how.

    • Incoming Ham

There are people who think anarchists are all people that shoot archdukes and are named Sacco and Vanzetti.

It’s more of an education issue. I’m not inferring anyone HERE thinks that, but it’s a common history book thing.

      • C4TWOMAN

True. And it doesn’t help that the anarchist community has kinda aged out, leastwise with activism, leaving the “blood and thunder” scene-sters to rule the roost.

        • DT

Well… that’s mainly just because it’s a really, really stupid political philosophy.

          • C4TWOMAN

I must preface this by saying I have been seriously annoyed with anarchists and understand why you think that. But I also believe it’s a bit more complicated.

There are some solidly thought out concepts of how and why people interact and how economies work. And on a small scale, anarchist groups have accomplished a lot. For instance, Anti-racist- action and Antifa have a core of anarchist organizers and without them much of the on the ground and behind the scenes Nazi organizing would have gone unnoticed.(There is some overlap with Anonymous)

Anarchists were also heavily involved in the founding of the Indymedia collective, which at one time revolutionized the Internets and media for people before social media. We know more about the WTO protests because thanks to Indymedia coverage the MSM couldn’t ignore it as much as they wanted.

Indymedia is an example of where it started to fall apart. The philosophy was fine, but only worked with a group of trusted individuals who were not there to cause trouble. People new to the ideas of worker collectives and open media often had a naive understanding of free speech, so almost from day one it attracted opportunists who exploited these organizations. What we now call the alt -right tried to hijack Indymedia collectives from day one under “free speech” and there were knockdown drag out fights between volunteers who could call a spade a spade(kick out the Nazis!) and purists who didn’t think anyone would be banned, ever, for saying anything(Freeze Peach!).

The longest lived of these Anarchist heavy organizations are the Anti Racist Action/Antifa. But they have their own problems. Chiefly some groups not being able to manage their image because enough members are consider the MSM an illegitimate arm of state sponsored capitalist force, and think ignoring them is the answer. So the idea, spread by alt-right actors, has taken off in some quarters that Antifa are all a bunch of violent thugs spoiling for a fight. Needless to so, this has not helped the Anti racist, Anti fascism mission.

Generally, anarchist groups can accomplish wonderful things, but they are ineffective at policing their own and protecting their assets from opportunists. And that means, ultimately, to date, they have failed to show a viable political and economic alternative, at least in a post industrial modern society.

          • DT

If it only works with a small group of trusted individuals, the philosophy is NOT fine. It’s shit. Ironically, you DON’T seem to understand why I think that.

No hard feelings, though. I used to say that in a perfect world I’d be a hard-line communist, now I say I’d be an anarchist. So there’s that!

          • C4TWOMAN

Um, okay. I actually do understand it, and more or less agree with you. I only disputed your dismissal of the entire philosophy as simplistic. It can work if applied on the right scale, it just tends to attract purists who don’t have real life problem solving/organization skillz.

Dismissing something as useless just because it doesn’t work everywhere all the time, is like dismissing Newtonian Physics because it doesn’t explain everything outside of a gravity well environment.

I’d have been interested in your experiences with actual real life anarchists. But you seem more interested in copping a ‘tude so bye.

Wow, never thought I’d be driven to devil’s advocate for anarchism. So there’s that!

  • dslindc

And yes, the Metro in DC is terrible, but there will be no ability to drive anywhere in most of the city, so do not attempt doing so.

This is a beautiful outreach program.

      • Ω cynmac will never surrender

I saw a guy smoking pot on the lawn in front of the American History Smithsonian in the summer of 1980.

        • shoeflyin

Some friends smoked a j, as they said at the time, on the capital steps during the Carter admin.

      • ImGoingBacon

        Tell that to my neighbors.

  • stankbait

I was there on the capitol lawn 8 years ago. Millions and millions of people celebrating Obama. Celebrating all that was right and good about my Country. Ain’t jack shit worth celebrating with the Potus elect. I’m standing guard on the river incase Iowa wants to try and invade.

I’m kind of bummed that the March in LA is the same day I start Saturday classes at big girl college.

    • arglebargle

Saturday classes??? What kind of ungodly hell is this?

      • jowgajen

I chose it. It’s a 45 min drive over the Santa Monica Mountains to campus. Saturday drive up there is much less stressful than after work. I have a 9 – 5 job that I love and don’t want to give up at moment for school. Stuff like that.

The last time I protested in DC was The 1971 May Day Protests.

After they Maced and teargassed us for blocking the Key Bridge, they scooped us up in Metro Police vans and packed 10,000 of us into RFK stadium. The site of the Capitol Building, seen through chicken wire as we headed down Pennsylvania Avenue, I won’t soon forget.

    • Resistance Ftr PuckStopsHere

It seems evident that, no, you indeed won’t soon forget. I, for one, thank you for your service.

  • ViveLaRésistance

My neighbor is joining about 60 women from St Johns County, Florida who chartered a bus to attend the March. Say hi if you see them. These hardy souls are riding the bus straight to DC, marching, and then riding straight back. I am too oldz for such shenanigans but will be there in spirit.

    • nightmoth

That’s what Athens, Ga. is doing. The last time I rode a bus all night, marched all day, then rode the bus back most of the night, I was a youngster of 35. Now that I’m 65 I think it would cripple me. But, you know, they can all yell “Fuck you” at least once for me.

      • shoeflyin

I did that in 2014 for the Climate March, now it looks like I have to do it again in DC, this April. Professor from UGA chartered the bus, it was a pretty painful trip at 56yo but I’m up for another one.

      • Ω cynmac will never surrender

But Athens, GA can come 45 minutes south to Atlanta to Centennial Park, right?

        • nightmoth

True. Hmmm. As much as I truly HATE city driving with a white hot passion, perhaps I’ll see you there?

          • Ω cynmac will never surrender

cynmac07 at gmail ~ and look at Greyhound or Megabus. I can meet you downtown. I’m a native and I use MARTA all the time. I’d love to be your guide.

          • nightmoth

Thanks! This inspires me. It’s possible that my hubby will participate, and that means he could drive and we could bring a car load!

  • calliecallie

Editrix, the presence of you and yours and the promise of a drinky thing is the only thing that might tempt me to DC for that inauguration or even the march after. Alas, I will not be there. But I will think of you all fondly. Give that babby a kiss for me. I will see if there is a local march, and maybe do that. I will certainly drink.

    • Resistance Fighter MausFeet

21st. There’s the LA contingent. I’ll be at that one with a friend or two. Who is bringing the wonksignal so we can find eachother. That exists, right?

      • Serai 1

We should figure something out. I’ll definitely be there.

      • DT

I think the wonksignal should be a silhouette of a guy jerkin’ it (but with, like, a quick wrist movement, nothing really erotic or anything) and a “Wonk! Wonk! Wonk!” siren.

  • NastyBossetti

I’m going to a show 1/20 in Philly, but I will be in DC on the 21st, with at least one of my sisters. Maybe we’ll see you. Maybe we won’t.

    • rebecca

maybe we won’t see you FIRST!

    • House0fTheBlueLights

First thing I want all the Obama women to do on January 21 is let the hair go natural.

      • Dazza

        YES!

      • Jo Mathie

Why? It’s their hair, let them do what they want with it. Can’t really see Michelle and co not letting themselves go natural if they wanted to in the past couple of years.

        • House0fTheBlueLights

There is not way they could have just “done this if they wanted to” without igniting a firestorm. Perhaps you don’t remember the ones that erupted when Sasha got cornrows, or when Michelle did Jeri curls a few years ago? In a very real way, it’s not “their” hair. The hair style of the first Black First Lady, really of any First Lady (I don’t know if you remember all the bullshit Hillary had to endure about her hair when she was First Lady.) And of course they “get to do whatever they want with it”. I’m not demanding anything and don’t see why you think that I am. But natural hair on women in the Obama’s (former) positions would have been a battle I would suspect they don’t want to fight. Going natural now would be an amazing statement of strength and solidarity to Black Americans.

So…when they estimate the crowd size for the inauguration, using hotel, flight and other reservation as their metric, they may not account for the people traveling for just the counter demonstrations, etc. Last I heard they estimated the crowd to be relatively small. As we learned from Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally, Stewart’s/Colbert’s Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear, and Obama’s first inauguration, different people estimate crowd sizes differently, and they can vary… widely.

I expect the usual “sources” to claim the protests were poorly attended, no matter how large they actually are.

    • rebecca

      we LOVE driveways!!

  • Rok E Raccoon

I have this recurring fantasy – I am at the inauguration parade, near the beginning of the route and as our Beloved Oppressor’s vehicle approaches I turn my back to it. To my surprise and delight, everyone else lining the street does the same. Like a wave it leads the Glorious Leader down Pennsylvania Ave. Am I suffering delusions of grandeur, or just a closeted choreographer?

    • Dazza

It’s a good dream. Hang on to it.

      • H0mer0

        “for if dreams die…”

    • Biel_ze_Bubba

Add mass mooning, and it’s a most excellent fantasy.

  • Claire

I’ll be at the march in New York, home of the belly of the beast, Trump Tower. I may pee on it.

    • KenRob

Poop on it too – for me. Besides, pee dries, poop squishes nicely.

  • LadyTavestock

I will be there on the 21st!

  • Terpsichord

If I am not dead of the consumption by then, I will see you at Pot Belly on the 21st! I will be wearing my Hell.No. cap.

  • msanthrope

I’m taking the UU bus up from Richmond on the morning of. Apparently buses are not allowed to park on the Mall, so we’re being routed to RFK Stadium and have to take Metro from there. I expect we won’t get to the site until 10 or so. I’ll be marching with my UU brethren and cistern, but if you keep tweetering your locale during the day, maybe I can find you! I’ll be the one in the purple pussy hat.

  • Nodrama4mama

Ok, are any of your bitches on Oahu? Do we want to meet at eggs and things on the 20th for commiseration over ginormous pancakes since its too fucking early to drink?

    • Jerry Noneofyourbizz

“…too early to drink”????????????? WTF are you talking about? That makes absolutely no sense.

      • Nodrama4mama

The festivities start at 4am Hawaii Time. I will be sleeping.

        • Jerry Noneofyourbizz

Hell, at 4am Central time I’m STILL drinking.

          • Nodrama4mama

Dude, I’m an oldz, My liver shuts down at midnight.

    • Nonsense. The sun’s over the yardarm somewhere in the world. :-)

  • A_Changeling

Are there protests during the inauguration? If there were and they were big enough, tv channels would have to switch between the ceremonies and the protests, because that’s newsworthy. It’d be a nice visual.

    • Serai 1

Is the big anti-Trump concert going to be connected to the March, or is it its own thing?

    • Biel_ze_Bubba

Oddly, no permits were available on that day. Might be spontaneous flash crowds here and there, but the cops won’t be letting people do much.

      • Truthiness2U

Oddly and in an unprecedented, and possibly illegal way, permits weren’t permitted.

        • tinker12

I heard that Herr Twitler’s puppets scooped up all of the permits so no one else could get one.

        • Biel_ze_Bubba

Rethugs used to be satisfied with setting aside special protest pens, where you could protest without being seen or heard. Now they get butthurt just knowing that it’s happening out there, somewhere.

  • PussyGrabbinRussianPatsy

Jesus christ i cant wait to get to that parade and grab some pussy!!

    • KenRob

Just make sure you grab RW pussies, they’ll be flocked around Putin’s Puppet’s puppets.

  • Jerry Noneofyourbizz

I appreciate the offer but I would rather watch the Apocalypse from a distance. That honestly is what I have on my calendar for Jan 20.

  • Pookabun

Was going to boycott the inauguration broadcast but this is tempting! Will most likely be there so see you then :)

  • Resistance Fighter Callyson

Damn, I am jelly of those of you who will be able to attend. But I’ll be at the Los Angeles protests on both days. Fight on!

    • Beanz&Berryz

I’ll be in Portland… but two daughters will be in DC…

      • Lesser Tiffany

        Oh hey me too

  • Lesser Tiffany

Well Delta certainly wants to capitalize on the rage: $1,433.60

    rt from PDX to Dulles

It was less expensive for me to fly to England.

    • Biel_ze_Bubba

Eek. Fly to somewhere on an Amtrak line, maybe?

      • Lesser Tiffany

With connections (unless I can transport from Atlanta like Star Trek) IAD ended up being the best option but the connection gets in at like 10:30 so now I have so many questions!

  • Skadi

Somehow, I feel like the Principal will not let me take the day off to go yell at Donald Trump. *sadface*

  • Nodrama4mama

Has anyone come up with an inauguration speech bingo card to assist the day drinkers.

    • thixotropic jerk

Yes it’s easy. Anytime anyone mentions the words “a” “the” or “to” consume your fav libation until consciousness dims.

      • Biel_ze_Bubba

The secret, I think, will be to dim consciousness before the Yamster speaks a word.

  • Saxo the Grammarian
  • Skadi

    …all the same…

    …anyone leaving from New York?

    • Biel_ze_Bubba

      Yeah, but prolly Amtrak.

      • Skadi

Which is like, sold out. >:-[

    • sgt. jmk of the résistance

Lots of buses looking for passengers in the downstate area – I’ve got a spot on a bus from eastern Long Island (it’ll be about $65, round trip). Check the Women’s March page on Facebook for other buses…they’ve got lots and lots leaving from different neighborhoods in the City.

  • gingerwentworth

Wish I could join you! (Would you have let me get up sing my song: my “Song for Orange Dick McGee?” To the tune of that “Do You, Mr. Jones?” song. It’s very moving.)

  • ltmcdies

With you guys in spirit but this Canuck should probably stay on her own side of the border…
I do have a request….if that Jill Stein or Susan Sarandon show up …. could you kick their asses (with votes) for me please…

    get a picture….thanks

    • There is one in Toronto and another in St.Catherine. Also one here in Buffalo but it’s going to be like 12 degrees. I am not far (could walk it) but I’m a oldz so I’ll see tomorrow how I feel.

      • ltmcdies

there is one in Vancouver, I see. If able will get there

  • HazooToo

For future reference, if you are ever on the way to Philly and need to come through the Royersford area, I have a bigass driveway that you may park your bigass Wonkebago in.

  • Serai 1

    This is fun:

We’re going back to the kind of dangers we faced during the Cold War

Bill Perry is a guy who was Secretary of State back when we were in a pushy-pushy with Russia for decades. We thought we’d got past that, but surprise! It’s back, except this time, nobody’s paying attention. Isn’t that nice?

    • Husband Of Mrs God

I hope to God some people are paying attention.
Sec’y State, no shit? I’d better read the article.

      • Husband Of Mrs God

Ohh, William Perry ca 2009–2010. The given link is broken, however you can use Politico’s search glass with william perry nuclear to find the article.

        • Serai 1

It went through fine when I clicked it just now.

  • Tetsu Kaba

My daughter (who wasn’t politically involved until this election)is going to the women’s march and wants her old ass parents to go with her! We’ll either drive or take the train from Durham, NC. Also too, I’m knitting a pussy hat or 2 for the occasion.

  • Husband Of Mrs God

Mrs God is a “nasty woman”, but her health is not up for this. We will root for the march and seek out any coverage.

    • haroldpp

There are lots of sister marches in almost every state and even in other countries. It seems good to show numbers in all over the country. https://www.womensmarch.com/si

  • Ankyloglossia

Wish I could go. Now way I’ll get the time off.

    • haroldpp

There are lots of sister marches in almost every state and even in other countries. Find yours! https://www.womensmarch.com/sisters

I can’t go to Washington, but am hitting the one in my hometown

  • Reality Kills

Donald said: Russian interference didn’t affect outcome. RIIIIIGHT!!! LOL! That guy’s brain is so diluted!

  • Biel_ze_Bubba

I will defs be there for one of those things, but I’m too old to sleep on the Mall. Decisions, decisions….

    • Jukesgrrl

Go to the march. The most important thing is to get a selfie with Donna Rose. For posterity. Your grandchildren will think you’re so cool when she is being inaugurated.

  • Bureaucrap

why do I always have to go out of town when you’re in DC??????

Please call me first next time.

  • gullywompr

I really wish you would stop saying that I have a dinky thing. I don’t. It’s fine.

  • Kooolest G

my kid’s former preschool teachers are having a knitting party where they’re making pussy hats, and they don’t mean hats that look like cats, they mean hats that look like vaginas.

    • Jukesgrrl

      Koool.

    • Alan

      That fit cats.

    • H0mer0

Do they have a pattern they can share a pattern with the wonkettariat? I’d be willing to teach myself to knit again (I did so when I was pregnant, almost 18 years ago)
Trixie, you look more beautiful by the day.

  • Mildred Broxon

A delicate ethical question: Considering the Women’s March on 1/21, is it unethical anyway to pray for a paralyzing blizzard followed (on Coronation Day) by a way-below-zero deep freeze? Just to screw up the Coronation? Asking for a friend.

    • Biel_ze_Bubba

So long as it warms right up to ca. 60º on the following day, by all means pray away. A torrential downpour would also be acceptable – something that not only soaks the mob but keeps it largely invisible to viewers.
Wishing for a wicked round of campylobacteriosis at the Coronation Ball may or may not violate posting rules. (Masque of the Red Death is right out.)

    • Apple Scruff

Why not pray instead for a thunderous downpour on the 20th? No snow required and will be dry for the 21st!!

  • sgt. jmk of the résistance

Oooh ooooh I’m so so excited that you’ll be there and I’ll get to meet you guys!!

I’m taking a bus there and back again from Long Island on the day of the March, so missing the drinky thing (not going to ask my right-wing evangelical reluctant-Trump-supporting brother to put me up for the night so I can protest his candidate and party’s agenda), but ohhh I will so try to find you to march with you and Our Benevolent Overbabby.

    • rebecca

that sandwich place! look for babbies and hats!

      • sgt. jmk of the résistance

And babbies WITH hats, also too?

        I will find you, regardless!

    • RNegron

I have to ask, what exactly is a reluctant-Trump-supporting person.

      • sgt. jmk of the résistance

He was the co-chair of his state “Carly for Pres” committee, and when she dropped out, he went from non-Trump candidate to non-Trump candidate as they fell in the primaries, until he – in his party loyalty – was left with Trump, who he voted for, though without enthusiasm.

    • Jukesgrrl

You are too nice. I’ll bet he’d expect YOU to put him up. Report back on your adventures, please, Sarge. Safe travels.

      • sgt. jmk of the résistance

You betcha I will! Thank you!!

  • Lesser Tiffany

I haven’t been to DC before! And it looks like the earliest connection I can get from Atlanta gets in at 10:30 which is after start time! I’m looking at taking the metro from IAD which looks like I’d get to the march site at 12:00pm at the earliest. Am I right in thinking there will be rallies? Do they usually shut down nearby metro stations in case of marches? Basically what I want to know is if this is a possible thing to do.

  • Reality Kills

Donald is the most stupid person on this planet ever!

  • Zyxomma

I’d love to go, but I’m broke. I’ll stay in NYC and cheer you on from here.

  • Stupid Monkey – Call me Stu’

I believe everyone should be equipped with a trump hair-piece… Tin-foil liner extra $.

  • Apple Scruff

I’ll be there on the 21st. Hopefully, we can find you :)

  • Alan
    • qadesh

      absolutely necessary!!

  • multi_verse

will the Twit naug be livestreamed?

  • Castielu

Taking an overnight bus from Decatur GA and will meet y’all at the sandwich place. I already bought a hat, so I plant invest my $20 in all the coffee I will certainly need that morning.

  • Nesnora

Anybody leaving from NYC? I’m a broke freelancer and I need to hitch a ride with my adorable sidekick Jackie.

  • chiefkurtz

I’ll have a checked shirt on. Look for me.

  • boredcatlady

By presents, do you mean weed? ‘Cause I’m definitely bringing that.

  • simonlcupcake

See you there (at the drinky thing for sure, and if I can corral my friends into that area also at the march). I’ll be the one with the sign that says “Suck it, Cheeto Voldemort”
