Hey!!!! Did we miss the story that Rick (No Homo, not that there’s anything wrong with that) Perry has been tapped by Cheeto Benito (ewww, I know) for Sec. Energy?

    • Bill D. Burger

“Oops!” ___ It had to be said.

      • nastymagyar

I wanted to use “Sec. Oops”, but thought it might be too early for folks to get the clumsy reference.

        • Johnatx

Gov Perry has nice hair, so there’s that.

Obama picked a Nobel Laureate, and now we have a fundie dolt who thinks the earth is 6,000 years old. What could possibly go wrong?

    • Johnatx

Let’s see. Obama’s first Sec Energy won a Nobel Prize. Trump’s nominee couldn’t remember the name of the department (that he wanted to eliminate.) Irony is dead. So are we, apparently

    • No, he’s already got Ivanka waiting on deck.

    Copy/pasted from the faceplace:

If you want to support Senator Warren’s request to audit President-Elect Trump’s finances for conflicts of interest, the woman who answered the phone at the Comptroller General of the Government Accountability Office said the most effective way to be sure support is counted is to email two administrators, Katherine Siggerud and Timothy Minnelli. Their email addresses are siggerudk@gao.gov, minellit@gao.gov. There is a third email, congrel@gao.gov, through which they are tracking people who were urging support for an audit.
You can send one email addressed to:
    siggerudk@gao.gov, minellit@gao.gov, congrel@gao.gov
    Subject line:
Re: Audit for President-Elect Trump’s financial concerns
Dear Ms. Siggerud and Mr. Minnelli,
I’m writing in support of Senator Elizabeth Warren’s request for an audit of our incoming President-Elect Trump’s finances, to prohibit conflicts of interest that would prevent him from carrying out the responsibilities of the office without corrupt influence.

    • bupkus23

      “consciously reflect”???? Inconceivable!

  • Jeffocaster in the East

This is why Trump has not appointed his good buddy Sarah Palin to a Cabinet Post…he is waiting until after January 20th to have Congress establish a new Cabinet position of Beauty Pageants with “Secretary Palin” at the helm. Ironically, that would make her the most qualified in a position in his administration.

Love Turnip’s response as to why he thinks he only needs one or two briefings a week, not daily: “I have a good brain. I’m smart. I know what’s going on. I don’t need it. From what I’ve already seen, it’s repetitive and a waste of time.”

The intelligence community is bewildered and reeling already and the Orange Fuckup hasn’t even taken office.

      • bupkus23

Ol’ Rinse Pubis just said that Rump gets “intelligence briefings every day and we do the presidential briefing – I think this week we’ll have three presidential briefings in the five days.”

        WTF?

  • I really do not get the penchant that conservatives have for destroying the environment. If there are no people around to buy your products because you’ve poisoned their homes, you’re not going to be able to make any profits.

    • Jennifer R

The way they visualize is it one of 3 ways. 1. It’s a lie 2. I am old enough it doesn’t matter 3. I am rich enough that I don’t see things like poor people now so any change is something my wealth can insulate me from.

    • eka

so, apparently if you phrase it in certain ways, they are for protecting the environment. so, against pollution and thinking maybe we should do something about global warming if it were true! but the global warming issue has become so politicized that they believe the bullshit even though yes, they would like a nice clean environment for their children.

they’ve also been led to believe that jobs and environmental protection are at odds.

even though i doubt any of them would really want the old coal jobs. and I say this as a pennsylvanian who’s traveled through many old coal and steel towns which are basically dead. these people want their towns back, but they don’t want to work in unregulated coal mines. they might think they do, but they’d change their minds pretty quickly and as always happens, the new immigrants would be the ones risking their lives to work every day.

      • bupkus23

I used to talk to a Pennsylvanian RWNJ, who claimed he was an environmentalist because he once helped “clean up” an brownfield left over from coal mining on state forest land. Once. Probably picked up trash as part of “community service”, is what I think….

        • eka

well, i come from a family of pennsylvania liberals who are theoretically environmentalists – as long as it doesn’t interfere with their lifestyle. my brother, not have meat in every meal? Impossible! my parents, use cloth napkins instead of paper? Absurd!

people like the environment but don’t want to take even the slightest actions. And yeah, I know that one person using cloth instead of paper is not going to save the planet, but it’s a mentality. If you think about what you’re doing you’ll find yourself making more and more changes and being more aware of how the environment is affected by politics – it’s a beautifully slippery slope.

    • Lance Thrustwell

They’re convinced that God won’t let the planet be destroyed. Sure, we’re ‘stewards of the earth’ and all that, but how could God let the creatures created in His image commit mass suicide? He wouldn’t, see? So we can all relax and use up all the resources we want.

    • alwayspunkindrublic

Do yourself a favor and jettison NPR. I did. I can’t exactly say my life is better, but maybe sucks a little less without NPR.

      • Lance Thrustwell

Thanks for the suggestion, but don’t think I can do it. If I don’t get my daily news fix, I just get nervous wondering about what’s happening. Wonkette’s great, but it has a certain focus.

      • Suttree

I had been listening to NPR less and less over the past few years, but I finally pulled the plug when I talked to a wingnut ex-gf and she said that she is donating to them now. My initial thought was that all of my speaking to her about compassion and empathy had done some good. I was wrong.

        • alwayspunkindrublic

She donated to them because they have become the epitome of spineless, quisling “both sides are the same” apologia.

That is correct! And you sir, have won the knowledge that the right is winning the war on facts.

          • bupkus23

  • Lefty Wright

A little know factoid about the Exxon/Russia deal. There is a leaked but secret clause in the contract that provides a $72 million dollar incentive bonus for the CEO and anyone who assists in returning Alaska (soon to be East Siberia) to it’s rightful owners. Russia. The bonus doubles if completed by 2018. At least that’s what I read somewhere on the internet, so it must be true.

I heard that also too. But used to think it was a joke.

      • bupkus23

They were worried BEFORE Perry’s name was floated – because of the apparent witchhunt launched last week by the Rump transition team:

        [ From Steve Benen @ Maddowblog ]

        Link: http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/energy-department-balks-team-trumps-climate-witch-hunt

Benen points out that the current DOE heads refused to “name names” – perhaps Perry’s appointment came as retaliation for that?

Kevin Drum was just discussing this over at “Mother Jones” ( apparently in response to a tweet by Chris Bouzy ).

        Link: http://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2016/12/donald-trump-once-again-day-trader-chief

As it is, I wonder if it was Rump or one of his minions who launched those trades…

you don’t need advanced warning, when trump tweets that he’s gonna stiff lockheed on paying for the f-35 and their stock tumbles, buy it. then when congress has to remind him that the military industrial complex was here before trump and will be here after he’s gone, and that every district in america will lose precious jobs and campaign donations if they cancel it, then sell the stock when it’s back up.

Big pharma will be the head of the FDA.

Driving around yesterday, listening to local news. They hit the national segment and talked about Aarom Schock, the indictment, and his not guilty plea. Thye mentioned that her was originally called out by a newspaper article asking about his office redecoration. No credit to Evan and Wonkette.

  • Ezio Auditore

Watching Trump’s supporters try to rationalize his totally establishment cabinet picks is hilarious. He could put big pharma in charge of the FDA and they would still support him.

Only 1/6 of American adults are on antidepressant and anti-anxiety meds. We can do better.

      • phoenix00

The fraction of American adults who can now afford said antidepressant and anti-anxiety meds now that Obamacare has been repealed-and-replaced?

        1/60? 1/600? 1/600000000?

If they were any more disconnected from reality we’d need a PK meter just to tell if they were in the room.

    • Bub the Hoohah! loving Zombie

He could put Martin Shkreli himself in charge of the FDA and they would still support him.

      • Damian L

I thought he already did that?

In other news, an oil pipeline in North Dakota burst and spilled 176,000 gallons of crude into the Ash Coulee Creek, about 150 miles from where the Standing Rock Water Protectors are protesting. Oddly enough, I don’t have any snark.

    • Resistance Engineer Red Bird

Huh. I wonder why they’re protesting the pipeline.

    • DainBramage

Obviously, oil companies need to start suing people for stealing the oil that winds up on their land.

    • chortlingdingo

That’s ridiculous. Oil pipelines are perfectly safe! There’s absolutely no risk of water or earth contamination! Those protesters had nothing to complain about at all! See how safe pipelines are?

Full moon tonight. Twitter at 3 am.

…. and the Canucks blew a 4-goal lead to lose 8-6. To the Carolina Hurricanes.

      Full moon indeed.

Hola, Wonkerinos! Winter is here at last. Went to Honest Ed’s one last time (and picked up a few of their iconic signs while I was at it), finished my Christmas shopping, tidied away the last of the summer stuff, and here I am, dipping my hoof back in the turgid waters of ‘Murrican realpolitik. Will Twitler and his confederacy of dunces get caught with their hands in the ruble jar? Or will we witness the dismantling of the Great Republic? Let’s watch!

  • Mintie

I can’t believe I actually watched that roll call video. WTF is that even doing on the internet? It’s not like we found out which offices they got to pick. I mean, shit, even those videos where people show off what they bought at the grocery store are more interesting.

    • I’m not surprised they didn’t show the offices, but the nerd in me was mildly entertained/surprised that there is a bipartisan display of teh dumbz in freshman Congress critters.

Is this a record for the number of lies KAC has managed to fold into a single statement? Surely it must be a contender.

“As we know, it’s a very unconventional situation,” Conway told CNN. “Normally we have politicians moving from political job to political job. In this case, we have a very successful businessman, who’s brilliant and a billionaire, who has assets and holdings all over the globe, and that needs to have a transfer of power through the proper channels.”

  • IOnlyLikeCats

If we survive this, we really need to think about looking into getting those fancy protections that other countries have to protect their democracies, because I don’t think states being able to quietly shred requests for looking into possibly hacked results is doing it right.

  • hvdv

OT and pretty sure everyone has seen this on their BookFaces already, but just in case. Me, I turned in my final grades today (12 whole minutes before the deadline, w0000t), and am tired of people’s faces in general, but one face in particular.
