RNC Chair Reince Priebus
The North Carolina GOP

Everyone, please pull your tiny violins out of their tiny violin cases, so we all can play a sad serenade for North Carolina Republicans, who are crying us a goddamned river right now, just because the NCAA has pulled all its championship games out of the state, citing the grotesquely hateful and discriminatory HB2 law. If you missed the news, here is what had happened:

In a news release Monday, the NCAA says the decision by its board of governors came “because of the cumulative actions taken by the state concerning civil rights protections.”

“This decision is consistent with the NCAA’s long-standing core values of inclusion, student-athlete well-being and creating a culture of fairness,” said Georgia Tech President G.P. “Bud” Peterson, the chair of the board of governors.

Nice job, NCAA! (Read their full list of reasons why they’re giving North Carolina the shaft here!)

So yeah, the North Carolina GOP is so mad right now. They are mad enough to make gender-conforming whizzes and poops in their pants! Check out this hilarious statement, which we will of course transcribe:

ncgopstatement

This is so absurd it’s almost comical. I genuinely look forward to the NCAA merging all men’s and women’s teams together as singular, unified, unisex teams. Under the NCAA’s logic, colleges should make cheerleaders and football players share bathrooms, showers and hotel rooms. This decision is an assault to female athletes across the nation. If you are unwilling to have women’s bathrooms and locker rooms, how do you have a women’s team? I wish the NCAA was this concerned about the women who were raped at Baylor. Perhaps the NCAA should stop with their political peacocking — and instead focus their energies on making sure our nation’s collegiate athletes are safe, both on and off the field.

Hahahahaha, know what is actually absurd and almost comical? YOUR FACE! This dumbass statement from Kami Mueller, the spokeswoman for the North Carolina GOP. Let us count the ways:

  1. Nobody is merging teams to make them unisex. You see, there is a scientific consensus on gender identity, and it is stupid Republicans’ refusal to acknowledge it that makes them think they are making sense when they suggest a simple anti-discrimination policy would slippery slope itself into unisex collegiate teams and boy football players and girl cheerleaders sleeping naked together in hotel rooms, which is something we bet they have NEVER DONE BEFORE, NOPE, THOSE KIDS ARE ALL SAVING THEMSELVES FOR MARRIAGE, YOU BET.
  2. Kami Mueller may be unaware of how collegiate sports work, but if there is a women’s team playing another women’s team, the locker rooms are being used by women, so we’re not sure what this bellyaching is about. Unless there’s a trans woman on one of the teams, in which case OMG WHAT ABOUT OUR WIVES AND DAUGHTERS? Fucking moron.
  3. LOL fuck off, Republicans do not care about sexual assault at Baylor or anywhere else. IN FACT, they’ve been spending a lot of time criticizing the Obama administration for cracking down on the problem of sexual assault on college campuses. How convenient that they suddenly “care” when they can use it as an excuse to discriminate against people they find icky.
You’ll remember also that the NBA pulled the 2017 All-Star Game out of Charlotte and moved it to New Orleans, which elicited whiny boo-hooing from dingbat Republican North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory. He is bitching about the NCAA’s decision too, but it’s not quite as funny as that thing above from the state GOP. He just really thinks the NCAA and others shouldn’t do things like this until North Carolina and all those other states are done suing America for forcing transgender potties down their throats. Oh, and also this:

“Sadly, the NCAA, a multi-billion dollar, tax-exempt monopoly, failed to show this respect at the expense of our student athletes and hard-working men and women.”

Can it, you stupid crybaby.

It’s got to be so confusing for Republicans, watching sports leagues taking the side of humanity and decency, instead of helping them feel better about their bigotry. It’s got to be absolutely befuddling for them to read the statement from John Swofford, commissioner of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), the division of the NCAA North Carolina is in, when he says, “On a personal note, it’s time for [HB2] to be repealed as it’s counter to basic human rights.” HE’S SO MEAN!

WHY do corporations and celebrities abandon states that discriminate against people these Republicans are pretty sure Jesus hates? WHY is it good business for corporations and other entities to be open and accepting? WHY would anybody care more about a buncha fag-genders than they care about the Sincerely Held Religious Beliefs of people who have been brainwashed to hate anyone who is different from them?

WHY does the mean lady running for president agree with the NCAA right now? (Pffffft, because she is a gay liberal commie, just like the NCAA obviously is.)

hilltweet

WHY are these wingnuts the only ones screaming and pointing at everybody else and saying, “WE ARE NOT CRAZY, YOU ALL ARE CRAZY”?

We guess they’ll never understand. Oh well, they are dumb, LOL, post over.

“Perhaps the NCAA should stop with their political pea cocking.”

I’m in love with this phrase! Can I be a political peacock? Or is it just referring to what men do with their cocks (sometimes, not all of the time).

Do I have to have a cock in order to be a political peacock? If I have routine access to one does that count?

Hard question for self, am I flamboyant enough to be a political peacock? Mostly I just wear dirty coveralls and work in the garden, so I dunno. Though I’ve been told my personality is a bit on the flamboyant side, well that’s good enough for me!

    • hendenburg2

      Isn’t “political peacock” just MSNBC?

      • Death Rocks From Space

Rachel Maddow, now she is one baddass political peacock (even though she does not personally care for cocks).

Oh, I think she’s fine with cocks. She just doesn’t get sexually aroused by them. I’m assuming.

        • Thiazin Red

          Political peahening?

    • Beanz&Berryz

Plus, too, in peacocking, as a verb, it seems that there’s more verbiness in the cocking, than the pea, in which case, in this particular usage of peacocking, as a verb, I’m just gobsmacked. The actual paid NC GOP spokeslady actually had no better word than peacocking for this statement!? Is peacocking around a NC thing? Oh my, can she even say that aloud and still go to church on Sunday!? What does she, as a she, know about peacocking!?

      • Death Rocks From Space

She might know a lot more about peacocking then she lets on at church on Sunday, amirite?

          • Amy!

All of them? No. If it were safe to say that, NASCAR wouldn’t have made the statement. Their judgment is that there are more people who will stay away if they don’t condemn discrimination than will stay away or be pushed away if they’re in favor of discrimination. And since they’re mostly Southern, they’re betting that most of the fans in the stands want them to condemn discrimination.

It’s like our womble (or taco truck? life is increasingly weird; you never know who has a vagenda or a taco) noted, as to tipping points. A lot of the families that fill the stands have somebody, or know a family that has somebody, that’s turned out to be a little … you know. For the past twenty to thirty years, it’s been safer and safer to be out (as LorBorGorTorWhatever). More and more families have adjusted. And as it’s more acceptable, more find the courage to be out, and the attempts to return to the status quo ante toleration get simultaneously more vicious and less likely to succeed.

Because FUCK YOU you fucking fuckers. You have to be the biggest assholes in the world. And I have news for you. Every professional sports arena do not have “Mens” and “Womens” locker rooms. They have locker rooms. I play semi pro sports with women on my team. We change in the same room, and guess what? We are adults that respect each other. We are also moving to gender neutral bathrooms in our venue.

It is the maddening dichotomy of liberals that they will scream about a rape culture in one breath, but then demand that young men and women be forced into close proximity, in situations that have already been proven to be all too convenient for those with less than pure motivations.

This is how the left is working to subvert our culture and our very sense of decency: They are going after our youth, and in this case, punishing them to force compliance on a greater scale to their particular worldview.

NC HB2 is a piece of work.

The bill originally made it illegal to sue for work-place discrimination in a NC court. All discrimination cases had to be made in Federal court.

They amended that provision this year so lawsuits can be brought in NC courts, but reduced the statute of limitations from three years, which it had been earlier, to one year.

There are also provisions barring cities from raising their minimum wage above the state’s.

All this was started because Charlotte, the state’s largest city, decided to pass a law barring discrimination against LGBT folks. The state legislature kicked into high gear to pass HB2, in order to overturn the Charlotte law. They didn’t take long from the time Charlotte passed its non-discrimination law to passing HB2.

    • Suttree

Yeah, people forget about the rest of that rat fucking that was thrown in there.

I have yet to hear someone explain form either side how forcing a transman, such as the one below, to use the women’s restroom is suppose to ease tensions, and make women feel safer when using a public restroom…

    • Joe Beese

This is like the “ticking time bomb” hypothetical, but with urine.

      • GHERKINS OF TRUTH!

        but with urine.

        YOU FORGOT POOLAND

    • gene108

Are women’s public restrooms that fraught with danger? How did women survive public restrooms before NC HB2 passed?

      • malsperanza

Just guessing here, but when sex-obsessed conservatives talk about dangerous bathrooms, they are speaking from experience. Either they get panicked when they think some gay guy is looking at their dick, or they wish he would. As for the women’s bathrooms, the GOP’s experience of those is limited to that time in high school when they snuck into the girls’ toilet to try to get a glimpse of boobies. So they know how gross men can be.

Me, my only concern about public bathrooms is that men seem to be incapable of aiming or cleaning up after themselves. Blech.

    • mailman27

This, this, and more of this. 30 seconds of pondering will reveal the GOP’s argument for the nonsense that it truly is. (I didn’t say pandering, siddown.)

    • Arolpin

Why can’t we just post your picture with the following caption whenever a RWNJ brings it up:

This is a trans man. HB2 forces him to pee next to your “wives and daughters”.

(I’m trying to bumper sticker what you said much more elequently, because RWNJs don’t elequent.)

      • anna rampage

Add some truck nuts onto your car near the bumper sticker, and I bet you’ll get their attention…

But, but, all the libertidiots have been screaming forever about how the Civil Rights Act wasn’t needed, since Unleashing Capitalism would have solved it, since having more than just Approved White People as customers would bring in more money!

So, why are they objecting to what the Free Market decreed?

    • gene108

Blacks shopped at the same stores as whites. Woolworth’s wasn’t keeping black people from buying their goods.

They just made it so a black person, after a long day of shopping at Woolworth’s, couldn’t sit down at the world famous Woolworth’s cafeteria and get a bite to eat.

That’s why boycotts worked. White owned business also relied on black customers. They made it so blacks could shop/work with major inconveniences that degraded a person’s humanity.

  • BetsyBleedingheart

    What’s wrong with all-gender teams?

And when will people realize that women don’t need protection, men need to not rape?

    • BosDeploraGrl

There is no good reason why women can’t play in the NHL, MLB or NBA right this minute. And I’m sure there are women that could hold their own in the NFL.

      • gene108

Top women athletes will easily beat me in sports, as I am a fat middle aged man.

They physical difference between top men and women, in the same sport, is pretty significant.

        I don’t see that happening.

        • BosDeploraGrl

There is not a physical difference between all women and men. Most maybe, but not all. I find it hard to believe that there are no women athletes that could compete in a men’s league. If they wanted to.

          • sw19tacotruck

There are significant physical differences between the sexes. And the outliers from both sexes would remain pronounced.
However, there’s nothing to stop a female goalie or punter/kicker, or quarterback – since they have protection from having the shit beaten out of them by the general rabble.
Defender or sprinter? Almost zero chance. But absolutely everyone give it their best shot.

          • h4rr4r

Biathlon shoukd be combined, men generally ski faster and women shoot better.

          • sw19tacotruck

Ooh yep – something like that which rounds physical prowess and finesse against each other.

          • Suttree

In that manner there is a difference. It will never be whole cloth equal. The are positions for women on men’s teams though even at the professional level. I can see a woman striker or goalie, punter or field kicker or even QB. I haven’t watched hockey in a while but some of the rules have changed about checking. I say watch the next generation and not try to say what women can or cannot do.

          • sw19tacotruck

Just a point of order, although your comment might not have been fully addressed towards me, and you do seem to be agreeing with me. :) I said absolutely everyone should be able to give it their best shot.

          • Suttree

Yup. I used to be a rather good street ball player at her age. Good enough to brag. We had a guy at our court who went to the draft after graduating Upsala that I always had to cover. Yeah he dunked all over me, but I stuffed him numerous times and scored on him also too (I think he was just having fun with me:)) But watching her play now? She would have whooped my ass if we were playing back in the day!

          • Suttree

See my comment above. I think that the biggest difference in male and female athletics until the last few years is that boys have always been groomed more than girls. Women’s sports just don’t get the same money and talent because of our cultural view that boys are the better/more natural athletes than girls. It is starting to change, slowly.

          • Erik Lonnrot

The only sport I really follow is hockey and there have been women who’ve played in men’s pro leagues. None in the NHL to my knowledge but given that the NHL is made up of the top 900ish players in the world it isn’t really surprising.

      • Señor Skwerl

Women have played in the NHL.

      • Cranky Man

Beg to differ, those are leagues that are extremely physical. I’ve personally seen Picaboo Street playing coed basketball with other us ski team men. It was no contest in the paint, she couldn’t budge the guys.

        • BosDeploraGrl

Uh, maybe basketball isn’t her game since she is a skiier. But a woman who has made a career out of playing basketball might be able to budge someone. I’m not saying ALL women could play in a men’s league, I’m saying there are some that can and they should be able to. I’m sure you’re not saying that there are no women in the world that would be able to compete in a men’s league.

          • Cranky Man

I’m saying there are no female athletes that are competitive in the top tier of professional physical sports. Maybe in a sport like golf or archery there are probably female athletes that are competitive.

She is a junior in high school and colleges are scouting her for her basketball skills. I think that it’s great for kids to play together until a certain level at this point. I hope that it develops into all/most sports being unisex.

      • Vagenda 21 (Royal Ugly Dude)

I played unisex soccer when I was young. And I was rightfully punished when I asked if we would be shirts or skins.

Not a smart strategy. NC’s public university system is one of the things that distinguishes it from most of its neighbors. Destroy that, and they’ll see the big banks and other corporations HQ’d in Charlotte relocate to NYC or elsewhere. Part of Dodd-Frank regulations with which banks must comply is strict diversity and inclusion policies, totally at odds with the bullshit the NCGOP is selling.

      • malsperanza

Like that would bother the GOP. They’re pretty sure the Research Triangle is the reason NC might go blue, and they are here to shut that whole thing down.

Terrible news for Great British Bake Off fans.

Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc will step down as hosts of The Great British Bake Off when it moves to Channel 4.

The duo have fronted the show since it began on BBC Two in 2010, alongside judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.

They said in a statement: “We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was… we’re not going with the dough.”

This is like when Project Runway went from Bravo to Lifetime only A MILLION TIMES WORSE.

        • Oh, yikes. I heard about the change to Channel 4 this morning, but I didn’t know that would affect the show. That is very bad news.

      • sw19tacotruck

” I do get a sense that the message sunk in: the BBC is unique, popular, and potentially a huge international commercial success, so tampering with it must be done with great care.
So … why the almost audible shrieks of pleasure in the headlines about making presenters’ wages public, halting populist shows, stamping on political “bias?” Can it be that, deep in government, people are just annoyed that the BBC is so well liked?
Rather like junior doctors, local schools and benefits for the disabled, most of us regard the corporation as a very good thing, whether we’re from the right or the left. That confounds those who believe that market forces alone can determine what works and what fails.”

    • cat cafe

I am hoping that this is all a negotiation tactic. The BBC refused to pay them a fair salary (obviously, they deserved a hike, since the show has exploded in popularity and viewership, even to the point of generating spin-offs and U.S. versions). So the first tactic is to threaten Channel 4, the second tactic is the stepping down. I’m not sure any of it is set in stone yet. I could be wrong, though.

      • sw19tacotruck

The production company own the rights to the show, and other channels are free to ‘bid’ once the contract’s up, but they do not ‘own’ the presenters.
Knowing where Mel and Sue are coming from, this isn’t a salary negotiation. The BBC is beloved for a reason – and even a generation of the right wing trying to poison the well (and turn voters with talk of ‘free markets’ and ‘bias’) has made much of a dent…. yet.

    • Well, that bums me out. I love those two.

Let me get this straight. The North Carolina GOP feels concerned for the safety and dignity of the college women who are paid a pittance to jump up and down in tiny skirts and jiggle their breasts for the entertainment and sexual gratification of male sports fans. Well, the NC GOP sure is giving civil rights a new name!

    Unfortunately, that name is “horseshit.”

  • anwisok

Well, just had a long conversation with my Right leaning (HAH!) brother. We discussed politics, and he expressed his concern over SCOTUS. I pointed out that, for decades, we’ve had a fairly balanced Court, and we agreed that that’s a good thing. I then admitted that Hillary would, of course, nominate a Justice who would be left of Scalia, moving the Court slightly left, while Trump would nominate someone to his right, keeping the overall balance even – which, while frustrating for both sides, isn’t actually a bad thing. I THEN moved on to point out something he didn’t realize, which is that the two oldest Justices are both Liberal, which means that Trump could realistically leave office with a 6 Right/2 Left/1 swing SCOTUS. I swear, I could hear him blanch over the phone.

HE DECIDED THAT’S ENOUGH FOR HIM TO NOT HOLD HIS NOSE AND VOTE TRUMP!!!! He had been undecided between Trump and Johnson, and I convinced him to go with Johnson! Not that that’s going to turn SC blue, but hey! It’s one less popular vote for Trumplethinskin.

      • Dude…i am on my 23rd film in 6 days right now. Don’t talk to me about masochism!

    • vivian

      Yes.

  • I Only Like Cats

Wow, I remember back when everyone gave “Octomom” a lot of harassment and went and looked her up and I see nothing for her to feel ashamed about. She exploited herself so she wouldn’t have to exploit her kids when the recession was really starting to hit home and make her unable to give her kids the basic necessities. People are just jerks.

    • nmmagyar

I give her a total pass at the porn thing – making money while the getting is good is never a bad thing unless that means hurting others. It was the whole HAVING 8 additional (I think she had either 3 or 14 at home already) children that gave me pause. And, IIRC, she wasn’t actually able to care for the kids she had before the famous 8 – her parents were paying her rent while she was in school; Social Work, I believe. But, of course: her body, her choice and I should probably STFU about it.

      • I Only Like Cats

It was six. And because of that, she was able to care for at least the eight and has many very adorable pictures with them.

  • nightmoth

For Chrissake, North Carolinians, vote for Roy Cooper and get that teacher-starving, gay-hating Pat McCrory OUT of office. I am SO ashamed of my home state.

    • Catstro

We’re working on it, I promise. I’m *dying* to see how this is reflected in the polls. Roy’s already got a decent lead in the polls, and I think Pat is about to find out what happens when you fuck with our basketball.

  • Vagenda and Tiara

“Perhaps the NCAA should stop with their political peacocking — and instead focus their energies on making sure our nation’s collegiate athletes are safe, both on and off the field.”

YES, the NCAA should stop with their political peacocking!

Say, you know who the real victime here is?

    • Amy!

Pick me! Pick me! I know this one!

It’s arwivesandaughters, right? Right? Amiright, right, right?

      • Vagenda and Tiara

You are correct. I would also have accepted “Governor Pat McCrory” or “the North Carolina GOP.”

    • Kiri the Deplorable Unicorn
    • anwisok

      Gov McCrory, of course.

      • Catstro

He’s about to be the victim of a landslide of votes.

        • anwisok

Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. Well, except maybe LePage. Or Brownback. Or Scott Walker. Damn. So many nice guys for that to happen to.

        • Jen B_VA

Which is the only reason the NCAA made this move. Not to be cynical but they had allll year to do…something.
They waited until they were pretty damn sure the next guy would make it go away and they could be all nobel and reward NC with their sportsballing again.

    • Saxo the Grammarian

      Cam Newton?

      • Vagenda and Tiara

        Lulz!

He really has shot someone on 5th Avenue?

        • nmmagyar

          Who hasn’t?

      • Jen B_VA

        WaPo ran that story already

    • sw19tacotruck

Forgive me, but I’m starting to think there’s nothing that cockroach can’t walk away from unscathed. The guy’s made of fucking teflon.

      • Brian

I agree with that, but still would be good to have more in depth reporting about his shittiness, like the Posts’ Foundation article. Speculation this is about his business practices.

      • uniquename72

It’s not that he’s made of teflon; it’s that Republican brains are made of shit.

I didn’t want to believe this for a long time. I wanted to think that Bush supporters were just as good as the rest of us, but that they believed different things or maybe were less educated (which is entirely proven).

Then they supported Palin nationally, and Sharron Angle in Nevada. There is literally no imbecile they will not stand behind, as long as that wonderful (R) is beside their name.

        • Jen B_VA

I do not think it is the R so much as the “stick it to those” fill in whatever others you wish to get back at for reasons

      • Hijabi Rockstar

I’ve been thinking the same thing. This Garrison Keillor piece was very soothing. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/commentary/ct-donald-trump-losing-garrison-keillor-20160831-story.html

          • Wild Cat

I mean, you don’t remember that Plato’s Retreat reception Trump held for Reagan and his Nancy back in 1983? Made news here.

          • John Smith

            Pimping Ivanka to Putin?

        • Biel_ze_Bubba

Yeah – but how juicy is the story? I believe the man is actually correct about being able to shoot a Messican Taco Truck operator on 5th Avenue and not lose the vote of a single Trumpanzee – even if the guy turns out to have been a disabled Vietnam vet.

(What disturbs me is that he sees this as a good thing.)

    • Saxo the Grammarian

Exciting! I can almost smell the taco trucks!

  • anwisok

OH! In my excitement at turning my brother’s vote away from Trump, I forgot to mention: during our talk, I mentioned the Southern Strategy, of which, it turns out, my bro has never heard*. Knowing that I’m a bit spectrum-y and tend to know what the fuck I’m talking about, or keep my mouth shut, he asked me to email him info about it. So, now that the stew for tomorrow is bubbling merrily away, I’m off to find the finest info I can about the subject and send it off to him.

We’ve never really talked politics in depth before, but I know he’s susceptible to logic and reason, so – I’m gonna turn that boy into a libtard yet! Probably not in the next 50 something days, but maybe, at least, by the next mid terms.

*Bless his heart, he means well. He just don’t know no better.

    • yyyaz

Man, I wish I could do that with my youngest bro. On Sunday, all he could talk about was what “a selfish bitch” Hillz is by exposing her staff and every human being within 1000′ of her to her germs, and that at least 3 staffers were in the hospital because of it — one in critical condition — but Hillary doesn’t care about babies in crowds or anyone but herself and her “self-promotion.” I assumed he was referring to her campaign for POTUS with elections less than 60 days away. Hopeless.

    • Biel_ze_Bubba

Vacationing this weekend out on Cape Cod – one of the guests at our B&B was a die-hard GOPper (no bullshit – he was sporting his Reagan-Bush 1984 T-shirt.) I figured “what the hell”, and got him going on the Drumpfenführer. Poor guy damn near broke down in tears. Never in his life failed to vote, never in his life failed to vote Republican – and now he’s got to break one of those streaks. I bought him a beer.

      • anwisok

So . . .for whom will he be voting? And in what state?

        • Biel_ze_Bubba

Mass. guy (Sox fan, which got us past trivia like politics.)
Everything he knows about Hillary, he go from Fucks Gnus. My guess is that he won’t go to the polls at all.

    • Jen B_VA

      WOOT! Good job, comrad!

      • anwisok

I included the strongest 7 links I could find – including Wikipedia, which has a VERY long and detailed entry on it. Also found a page with an embed of the actual Lee Atwater interview.

I also closed by offering to prove that MOST of the Clinton “scandals” are total BS. LOL I admitted that Hillary is no angel, but made it clear I could show a “Boy who cried wolf” pattern to the allegations against her, if he’d be wiling to consider it. hehehehehhehe.

        • Dee Andee

I’ve been around awhile, I just duck out from time to time when the politics make me feel too much like hair-tearing (actually, politics are OK if nothing else is going on personally that makes me feel overwhelmed), but thank you! :)

          • anwisok

I glanced at your history and didn’t see much at wonkette, so made an assumption. If you’ve been here awhile, you already know whereof I speak. Personally, I use politics to distract from the overwhelming things (sometimes too much. I’m sure you understand.), but – what works for you, works for you! The “welcome” may be un-needed, but still – have fun!

    • I Only Like Cats

I would just like to remind everyone that “men are stronger” thing is BS. It’s well-known that the average is skewed because of the way society views women, but the average has a lot of overlap, and to a lesser extent, so does the extremities.

      • mtn_philosoph

We had a couple of elite level (as in, Olympian) women in the bike club I belonged to years and years ago, and during our weekly club criteriums they would kick all of our boney Y-chromo asses but good. And we liked it.

      • Regret

Yeah that is only on average based on imperical data (i.e. not corrected for non-genetic factors like culture or diet) and I think it is within 1 standard deviation of the mean. Therefore it is meaningless.

The only significant difference I know of (besides basic stuff like genitals (which are become more and more irrelevant)) is the difference in the attachment points of certain muscles making it harder for a woman to throw like a man.
That is only relevant for a very limited number of sports and nothing outside of sports.

  • Vagenda and Tiara

“In his fifteen minute, off-the-cuff speech, Bevin compared conservatives sitting silently to Martin Niemöller, a Nazi imprisoned protestant minister who wrote a famous poem about how people remained silent as the Nazis persecuted different groups.

This is an old meme in Christian-right circles: Liberal “baby killers” are the Nazis, conservative Christians are the “good Germans” going along with it who are called to be the “Confessing Church” that resists evil.”

How do these idiots manage to get EVERYTHING ass backwards? THEY are the fucking Nazis. Jesus, any fool should be able to see that.

Remember folks, it’s not about the toilets….it’s really about the minimum wage and labor laws. Transgendered people were tossed under the bus to get it all passed.

A yep. They are the red flag being waved before the bull headed masses.

    • anwisok

And those parts aren’t unconstitutional, so they won’t be overturned, even if SCOTUS overturns the transgendered discrimination parts of it.

      • Jen B_VA

        Perzactly

    • Amy!

I’m honestly never sure when the under-bus-throwing is happening: when the license to hunt those of non-conforming appearance was passed (and trumpeted, and attacked, and defended), or when folks come along to say “hey, never mind that they passed a law encouraging vigilantism against those people, look over there at the other measures in the bill!”

Yes, all of the bill’s provisions are problematic. The restriction on minimum wage laws seems unrelated to the rest (which are all about removing local authority for establishing anti-discrimination ordinances, or making bringing a case about discrimination more difficult). And I’m not suggesting that this is your motivation, Plato’s Redhaired [why not redheaded? that was my mother’s idiom] Stepchild. It was almost the first major argument I heard from the Moral Monday leaders, though. They’ve been less distancing, since.

Or, to rephrase: It fucking is about the toilets, and about minimum wage, protection of other minorities, and access to the courts in cases of discrimination. Or if it’s not about the toilets, then that’s because it’s a bill for the advancement of public vigilantism against those people who maybe ain’t quaht raht. It isn’t necessary to exclude the threat to those whose gender or presentation is non-conforming in order to also emphasize the other horrible bits in the bill.

NB: NBA, NCAA, and NASCAR prolly wouldn’t get involved over issues of minimum wage or access to courts. Since the bathroom provisions potentially endanger their paying customers, with no possible recourse (because the lege took away everyone’s rights to make rules), they feel they have to get involved. Less of a trojan horse, more of a bloody shirt.

  • Me not sure

According to Raw Story a Trump supporter “sucker punched” a 69 year old female protester in the face outside of a Trump rally in Asheville, NC causing her to fall over her oxygen tank and hit the sidewalk. They’re gonna need a bigger basket.

    • JohnBull

An arrest warrant has gone out on the jerkoff who did this. No source but I’m pretty sure I saw it on Democratic Underground. A friend brought me there to feel bad about myself.

    • Amy!

Oh, but that story has a rocking ending. The local news interviewed her, and then she called them back later. Said she wanted just to add a question to the interview.

She asks if people find a Trump supporter punching her in the face deplorable.

Hillz needs to go visit her and check on her health. Because there’s a pair of ’em whose health Republicans have gotten interested in, now. She’s with her, you know?

Wow, insulting the NCAA like that is not going to get them to change their mind. Reminds me of the reaction when one partner leaves another because the other is an asshole so that person responds by becoming even more of an asshole — as if that will make the person change their mind “Oh, I’m sorry. I was wrong. Let’s get back together.”

That’s strange since MSNBC was the first one to jump on the All Trump All The Time bandwagon way back when. They’d spend hours at a time with just an empty podium on the screen waiting for Trump to show up whenever he was scheduled to speak somewhere.

      • Good_Trouble_Yall

I have a solution for what to do when they do this: I turn them off. As soon as Brian Williams’ new program started last night and he introduced his guests, two of whom were those Republican assholes who got $arah Palin into the national news, I turned it off. If enough of us do that, they’ll learn.

Judging by the regular tantrums about any sort of rights for any group they disapprove of… that sounds plausible. Anything they don’t like must be described as what it is not, until it becomes true. Like, maybe if you say ‘Killary’ and ‘Benghazi’ enough, Trump will become President with Bernie Sanders as his VP.

It’s not so much that ≥half of Drumpf supporters are deplorable, but pretty much the entire GOP. Hope it’s a magic basket, because it’s going to need to increase exponentially in size to get all those lizard brain types in there.

    • Good_Trouble_Yall

What bothers me the most about the Reptile party is that they are so exclusively focused on what’s going to be the most helpful for them in getting R’s elected or re-elected, that they don’t care or don’t believe that they’re marching toward a future with a really-for-true Hitleresque figure as the President of the United States. They really don’t seem to care at all about this country or anyone in it as long as they can hold onto power. It’s truly scary.

      • At the corner, turn left

        My thought precisely.

      • Jennaratrix

Is it that they don’t care/believe that, or that they are actively working toward that end? Because I’m starting to wonder if it isn’t the latter.

      • GEMoore

It’s obvious that much of the GOP is very uncomfortable with Trump. Paul Ryan, for instance, has had to endorse him with gritted teeth and fingers crossed behind his back, and Lindsey Graham found him even more repugnant than Cruz, who on a gag reflex 1-10 scale, is probably a 50.

But they’re going to let this happen, anyway because of partisan tribalism, especially as
Trump and his surrogates pander to every limbic element of our American psyche.

If he is elected and begins his dangerously capricious, narcissistic fantasy of a strongman presidency, I hope they can’t even live with themselves.

As for Baylor, my son is a senior there (on scholarship — you never know what you’ll fish out of a gene pool), and it looks to me like they did us all at least the favor of holding Ken Starr responsible, as he is, and if we are lucky, we won’t see his lecherous face in public anymore. Keeping my fingers crossed.
