A group of New York City communist writers came to Washington the other day, looking for a handout and complaining about capitalism, as usual. Meet Chris Lehane. He was a spinmaster for Clinton who served as Gore’s spokesman during the 2000 campaign but ditched Kerry in 2003 over stylistic differences. Since then he and his business partner, Democratic hack Mark Fabiani, have built a (one assumes) lucrative business as hacks-for-hire, representing everyone from Kobe Bryant to former California Governor Grey Davis to the Screen Actors Guild to a number of unions united under the Change to Win banner. Recently, though, Lehane and Fabiani picked up a new client: the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, who are trying to bust the writer’s strike. Hmm.

According to Variety, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Bill Richardson and John Edwards said that they will not cross picket lines for a CBS-sponsored debate in Los Angeles on Dec. 10 if writers strike. MORE »

It’s just that Amy Poehler gets camera time playing her, and writers can more easily gin up skits for laughs: “Over the past year, viewers tuning into Saturday Night Live have seen Hillary Clinton depicted as a ruthless, power-hungry, arrogant witch.
