Mark it on your Political Holiday Calendar: on May 18 we celebrate the birthday of the conservative heroine Tina Fey, who played Sarah Palin on a couple of pivotal episodes of Saturday Night Live. After those episodes aired, Republicans could never quite forgive Palin for being less hot than her impersonator. And so Barack Obama became president.

Here’s old Walnuts on SNL last night with Tiny Fey, as Sarah Palin. They mock their entire campaign, ha ha ha. It’s pretty funny! Especially near the end when McCain takes the floor out from under Palin’s 2012 chances. Awkward! Suddenly Saturday Night Live is on all the time, because an election’s coming up. But ha ha ha SNL we still don’t watch you, even on Thursdays! Anyhow here is a nice video clip of some portion of that show, featuring your old pals Will Ferrell and Tina Fey, who are not on that show anymore but who came back to do some impersonations. Are the McCain-Palin people even aware that Tina Fey is making fun of them, all the time? Oh, wait … this is a magazine cover from 2004. Which still doesn’t make any sense. Why, in 2004, did the editors of this (obviously now defunct) magazine decide that the best illustration of the Kerry-Bush race was … a picture of a teevee comic who doesn’t portray either of them, and a guy who was soundly beaten for the GOP nomination four years earlier, in 2000?
