The Zeitgeist Checklist Checklist: Have You Caught the Musharraf Fever?

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

This is Dana Milbank’s last Zeitgeist Checklist before his unfortunate book leave, so we’ll be gentle. The checklist run in The Post on Sundays. Sure, it runs in Slate on Friday nights or Saturdays, but no one reads Slate on weekends, fer chrissakes. What we’re getting at is, for a column that runs on a Sunday and is meant to, in a sense, predict or explain the coming week (are we wrong?), it’s unfortunate that the only thing anyone is actually talking about this week is listed at number seven and falling (losing to Pervez Musharraf!) The Zeitgeist Checklist Checklist: Dana May Be Gone, but the Zeitgeist Won’t Check Itself

Monday, August 14th, 2006

hegel.jpgYou’ll just have to trust us on this one. We decided to write this week’s ZEITGEIST CHECKLIST (now, lamentably, not by funnyman Dana Milbank) before reading the WaPo/Slate column.

Our predicted list:

1. Lieberman/Lamont
2. Terror
3. Lebanon/Israel
4. Iraq
5. Bloggers/”Netroots”
6. Middle East
7. Castro
8. Terror
9. Midterms
10. Terror

Our score, after the jump.

Monday, July 31st, 2006

How, we thought, will we ever catch up on all the news we missed last week, while on our sponsored Happy Hour Tour of the upper Mississippi? So many stories come and gone — and in this fast-paced electronic New Media paradise, why, missing a week of the Note is like missing a year of Huntley-Brinkley! If only there was some service, some regular feature that summed up stuff that was in the news last week… a sort of “week in review,” but less substantive and with more arbitrary rankings and numbers…

Of course! It’s Dana Milbank’s celebrated and beloved feature, the Zeitgeist Checklist. This week’s checklist is checked, after the jump:

The Zeitgeist Checklist Checklist: Did You Hear About Ken Lay Yet?

Monday, July 10th, 2006

Last week, we (acting against the recommendations of our doctors) mocked Dana Milbank’s new regular feature, CWThe Zeitgeist Checklist” (confidential to WPNI: We are also available to write lists of headline w/ arrows in exchange for lots and lots of money). This week, we are embarrassed to admit that we’re going to do it again.

We note first that Slate has not yet picked up Dana’s “This Week In Last Week” column. That’s no way to maximize synergy, Weisberg. On that note, here’s to the classes that chatter, and what they’ll be chattering about — we highlight a couple items worthy of futher investigation, after the jump.

The Zeitgeist Checklist Checklist: Hopefully Not the First In a Series

Monday, July 3rd, 2006

Oh boy! The Dana Milbank has a hot new Slate/WaPo feature (you smell that? It’s synergy)! Every week, he’ll tell you what the Insider Beltway Pundit Gangs of 500 Insiders are talking about at their “cocktail parties.” It’s the Zeigeist Checklist, ripped off wholesale (with permission) from an old City Paper feature, completely identical to a number of features at various newsweeklies. Let’s take a look, shall we? MORE »
