Thanks to loyal Wonkette operative PeteJayHawk for sending along this latest item for the Obama Web Smear Team. This evil spam message (which leads to a terrible Internet virus, so don’t look at it too closely) encourages the ugly Internet rumors that Obama is a secret “semi-aquatic mammal” with a “barrel-shaped torso, enormous mouth and teeth, hairless body, stubby legs and tremendous size.”

Actually, no.

Forget Nigeria! The new spammer-scammer hotspot is St. Barack Obama’s homeland of Kenya, where the e-mailers have figured out a foolproof way to get money out of gullible American political satirists. Prepare to be awed by fraud. MORE »

Eh, so what if it’s trolling. These e-mails are too precious! In response to this Ron Paul post:

No I’d have to say that they are very smart. I mean why even write something like this. The man has the only points worth talking about. Matter of fact they are vital to the health of this country. We cannot afford business as usual. If your going to write a hit piece do it with some authority. In this case that is impossible the man is honest, experienced and has integrity with unimpeachable character……nice try.

We gets lots of author spam around here, usually from authors of self-published conspiracy-theory books. But we weren’t cool enough to get spammed by John Podhoretz, whose new book on Hillary comes out tomorrow. Apparently Podhoretz is spamming prominent journalists and opinion leaders, here in D.C. and elsewhere — to snickering from some of them, of the “FW: !!!” variety. (Some might call this mockery; but Random House calls it a “viral marketing campaign.”)

Podhoretz’s author spam includes this plug for his book:

I think it’s full of surprising and unexpected observations and insights. I tried to make it a fun and fast read, and at least one early critic — Matt Drudge at the Drudge Report — described Can She Be Stopped? as “provocative” and “explosive” in a special report on the book last week.

Who needs a starred review from Publishers Weekly, once you’ve gotten a “flashing siren” review from Drudge?
