New York Times Looks Foolish On Pulitzer Day

Monday, April 7th, 2008

Remember when the New York Times lost to the Washington Post by a million points in the Pulitzers today? Well here’s your damn link if you forgot. Anyway, a Wonkette spell-check operative noticed this funny typo on the front page on the Times‘ Washington edition this morning. That’s like converting to Judaism on Christmas morning and getting no presents, except Santa Claus is handing out Pulitzers this time.

Famous Washington Post Newspaper Wins Six Pulitzers!

Monday, April 7th, 2008

Hooray, Washington’s newspaper beat New York’s newspaper in Pulitzers by four. The Washington Post won six Pulitzer Prizes today, tying one shy of the record set by the New York Times in 2002 (but they had 9/11 in their backyard, so they just had to show up). The dumb Times only won two this year, neither of which went to “lightning rod conservative” columnist Bill Kristol. The Post scored the Public Service prize for its Walter Reed investigative series, which was pretty good. Congratulations, Washington Post newspaper! [Editor & Publisher]

Pulitzer Finalists: A Bunch of Three-Part Articles Nobody Read

Three Part Series! - WonketteEvery year about this time, a group of elderly newspaper editors is slowly led to a table and shown stacks and stacks of three-part investigative reports about the recent problems with polar bears, the long boring process of building some civic auditorium, or the proud journey of a little Guatemalan girl born with six heads. The senile newspapermen drool a bit on the “finalists,” and pretty soon Editor & Publisher has posted the leaked list. MORE »

We’re On Next Year’s Shortlist For Sure

Tuesday, April 18th, 2006

postpulitzer.jpgYesterday, Washington Post Fashion writer Robin Givhan won a Pulitzer prize for criticism. She received the news in the Post’s newsroom in Washington, D.C., wearing a sensible Ivory-colored sweater that represented a consolation of sorts to the purposefully unflashy style of her Beltway-locked coworkers (Ms. Givhan lives and works from New York). On her left hand, riding astride her middle finger, was a magniloquent amber ring, a hint of Uptown frission and a protective barrier — intentional or no — against the dowdification (though not necessarily Dowd-ification) of a DC newsroom. BREAKING: ROBIN GIVHAN WON A PULITZER!

Monday, April 17th, 2006

The Post beat the Times — Jay Rosen, you’re a genius! — 4-3 due entirely to, we like to think, Robin Givhan’s crazy Style column. Besides Givhan, Post winners include David Finkel, Dana Priest, and the Abramoff reporting team of Susan Schmidt, James V. Grimaldi and R. Jeffrey Smith (Eisler’s not gonna be happy about that one…) MORE »
