Wonkette Party Crash: Ain’t No Party Like an NDC Party

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

Ellen Tauscher, uber-hostess - WonketteAn anonymous Wonkette Operative (Covert Free Booze Division) attended one of the ten zillion holiday parties going on this week, and was kind enough to send us this report.

Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher and the New Democratic Coalition held their Holiday Party last night at Ellen’s swanky pad (which I’m assuming was paid for with her Wall Street bucks and not her Congressional salary). In an unsurprising development, the place was packed with corporate lobbyists and their hired guns there to pay homage to some of the Democrats who might listen (and to the ones that taken their money).

Wonkette Party Crash: Cap File’s First Anniversary

Monday, December 4th, 2006

Last Thursday, we went to the National Portrait Gallery for the very first time. Not out of any deep underlying love of art or interest in American history, but for free booze and questionable celebrities. Yes, it’s a Capital File party! Specifically, the Cap File First Anniversary Party, starring, for some reason, Iman!

We brought along our girl Friday, Liz Gorman, whose fantastic (as always) pictures are all available in this fancy new gallery thing right here.

After the jump, our half-remembered party report.

Team Party Crash: Yeas and Nays Launch

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

IMG_2295.jpgMichael Grass of the Washington Post’s EXPRESS celebrates the launching of “Yeas and Nays” in the Washington Examiner.

Last night, we went to the WASPiest place we’ve ever been in our entire lives (the University Club) to celebrate the launch of the Washington Examiner’s gossip column, “Yeas and Nays.” It launched a month ago, yes, but we’re still quite excited.

The club was bumpin’, the wine was free, and the bloggers were in a corner talking only to each other. Our kinda shindig. After the jump, a few photos from a certain Girl Reporter who was actually supposed to be shooting for the Examiner.

Wonkette Party Crash: MSNBC/NJ At the Watergate

Friday, September 8th, 2006

_sk52700.jpgThe National Journal Group throws a mean party, so when they invited us to celebrate their blessed gay marriage to MSNBC (oh, we only give it ’til November — you know how those types are), we put on a tie and everything and cabbed it to the Watergate. The cabbie correctly pegged us as a “blogger,” picked up two well-dressed Republican-looking additional fares at a Georgetown hotel, and told them we were “a liberal Democratic tree-lover vegetarian” as they uncomfortably and politely laughed and silently pleaded to make it to Sequoia before we said something leftist.

Oh, right, the party! Learn all about it, after the jump.

Wonkette Party Crash: Bo Derek at Cafe Milano

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

IMG_1074.JPGHere’s Bo Derek with two sleazy guys who made very clumsy passes at Liz.

Last night, Wonkette cabbed it over to Cafe Milano to hobnob with the glamorous stars of DC in what turned out to still be August. The reason? Alcohol and boredom! Oh, and Capitol File was hosting a party for Bo Derek to help launch a new tv network from NewsCorp! You get all that?

All the fabulous pictures (courtesy, as always, Liz Gorman, Intrepid Girl Reporter) and half-recalled anecdotes (courtesy Maker’s Mark), after the jump.

Team Party Crash: “The Good Fight” Book Party, Part One

Tuesday, June 13th, 2006

Last night, Team Wonkette attended the book party for The Good Fight, the new book by Peter Beinart. On a perfect June evening, in the garden of Mark Penn and Nancy Jacobson’s Georgetown mansion, we rubbed shoulders with numerous luminaries — including Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Don’t believe us? Well, we have eyewitnesses: Marc Ambinder and Patrick Gavin. And photos:

peter%20beinart%20book%20party%202.jpgYes, of course she wore a pantsuit. This one was pea green.

peter%20beinart%20book%20party%2015.jpgAttention Patrick Healy: A tuxedo-clad Bill arrived separately from Hillary. Hillary left the premises at least 20 minutes prior to Bill’s arrival.

More great photos, by Intrepid Girl Reporter Liz Gorman, appear after the jump. A more detailed write-up of the party, with even more pictures, will follow shortly.

Wonkette Party Crash: CEI Awards, Part Two

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

IMG_8623.JPGAs we previously mentioned, last night Team Wonkette attended the annual CEI Dinner. We’ve already given you some great photos from the event. Now we provide you with this more detailed write-up of the proceedings, as promised.

All in all, it was an excellent evening. P.J. O’Rourke was in funny, fine form. The liquor flowed liberally, and the after-party featured free cigars and cigarettes (plus scrumptious chocolate eclairs).

And did we mention the dancing libertarians? What more can one ask for?

Our full take on the evening, including more excellent pictures by Liz Gorman, appears after the jump.

Team Party Crash: The Michael Kelly Award Dinner

Friday, May 19th, 2006

michael%20kelly%20award%201.jpgLast night, Team Wonkette rubbed elbows with the D.C. media elite, at the third annual presentation of the Michael Kelly Award:

The $25,000 award is given annually to a journalist whose work exemplifies a quality that animated Michael Kelly’s own career: the fearless pursuit and expression of truth. Kelly, who was the editor of two Atlantic Media publications, The Atlantic Monthly and National Journal, was killed while covering the war in Iraq in 2003.

It was a delightful evening, definitely one of the better parties that we’ve crashed attended lately. As media junkies, our heads were left spinning from all the star-spotting: Peggy Noonan! Adam Nagourney! Howard Fineman! Gwen Ifill! Matt Cooper! (But where was FROOMKIN???)

After the jump, additional commentary on the evening — plus fabulous photos, by Liz Gorman. Enjoy!
