FEELING THE PINCH

Is Greenwich, Connecticut Too Big To Fail?

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Will Congress just watch and let Tommy Hilfiger's mansion fail?Okay so it’s nine days old, but you must read this very delightful article about the effects of the financial crisis on Greenwich, Connecticut, a town where rich people live. There had been three types of people in Greenwich, organized into a clear heirarchy: rich hedge fund managers, rich investment bankers, and lastly, filthy serfs. Then! Wall Street crashed! And the new arrangement is thus: rich hedge fund managers, slightly less rich ex-investment bankers, and even filthier serfs. This is a disaster of world-historical magnitude and Hank Paulson needs to buy Greeenwich’s “middle class” new Ferraris to avoid SYSTEMIC GLOBAL FINANCIAL DEFAULT FAILURE. MORE »

THE DAY OF THE ANCIENT GREEK SPEECH

A Children’s Treasury Of Photos Entering Invesco Field, Starring Ned Lamont

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Hello, friends! We have completed our four-mile 2008 iteration of “Sherman’s March To The Sea” and, appropriately, burned down all of once-happy Denver in the process. Again, we have walked back from Invesco Field and destroyed Denver; it’s probably on Drudge or Yahoo News or something. As we were going to Hope Field at -20,000 o’clock this afternoon, who did we find on our Shuttle but lovable Connecticut failure Ned Lamont, the 2006 Democratic candidate for Senate who lost to Joe Lieberman, an independent shit-rat. What a guy that Lamont is! He was entering the stadium just like everyone else: in agony. MORE »

Nice move, face flapsAccording to the Stamford Advocate, an FBI investigation has concluded that the notorious crash of Joe2006.com, Joe Lieberman’s glorious Web site, the day before his August 2006 primary loss to actual Democrat Ned Lamont was caused by Joe Lieberman’s campaign. At left, Emily Lamont, 19-year-old daughter of Connecticut Senate candidate Ned Lamont, is snuck up on by a nefarious beer funnel-wielding fellow Harvard student (as found by IvyGate, who are either for or against Ivys, we’re not sure). Ms. Lamont surely refused to partake in the illicit goings-on that followed. MORE »

Harry & Hillary Loan Top Goons to Lamont Campaign

Friday, August 25th, 2006

'I'm gonna stick this finger straight up Lieberman's ... next question!' - WonketteDespite the careful comments in public — who wants to find an axe-wielding Joe Lieberman banging on the door in the middle of the night? — it seems Harry Reid and Hillary Clinton are loaning some big guns to Ned Lamont’s brave attempt to rid U.S. politics of Vinegar Joe.

Reports the Kos:

Stephanie Cutter, a key member of Reid’s vaunted war room, has been in Connecticut for the last week and plans on helping out through November. She worked as Deputy Communications Director in the Clinton White House, communications director at the DNC in 2003, and communications director for John Kerry (after the late-2003 staff purge which revived his primary campaign).

Kerry Finds ‘04 Debate Script, Sends To Newspaper

Friday, August 25th, 2006

Kerry Fever ... Catch it all over again!John Kerry got his letter published (costly registration required) in today’s Wall Street Journal!

Our parents used to be totally proud of us when the local paper would print our letters. (”There are too many loose dogs around the playground.”)

Anyway, Kerry used a bunch of his inspirational lines from the ‘04 debates — “The 9/11 Commission’s recommendations to secure our most vulnerable infrastructure remain virtually ignored,” for example — in the letter, which seems to actually be about Ned Lamont. Kerry’s letter, after the jump ….
