Inside the Bubble: The Attack of the Giant Blog Words

Monday, December 5th, 2005

Animatronic anchors Elizabeth Vargas and Bob Woodruff (hybrid models with auto-shutdown and cruise control) will continue to host ABC’s “World News Tonight,” winning out over standard transimission hostbot Charlie Gibson, who still runs on diesel. [ABC]
Hacktasatic Jon Friedman calls “The Week” journalism’s “first blogazine.” No, wait — it’s a magalog! A Zlog? What does that make “The Best Week Ever”? A blogedy? And the “Nightly News” — that’s a blogcastnewslog. CNN’s Blog Report is a bloport. And Times Select still sucks. [CBS Marketwatch]
Anchlogger Brian Williams is a “dog person.” HOW CAN HE BE A BLOGGER THEN? [WaPo]
FishbowlDC on the quitting/re-hiring of Postie Gabe Escobar: “Escobar is one of the Post’s only Hispanic editors (the only other one we can think of is Emilio Garcia-Ruiz, Assistant Managing Editor/Sports.” National Book Award Finalist American Chica author and editor of Washington Post Book World Maria Arana, on the other hand, is just a girl who likes to read. [Fishbowl DC]

This Panda Could Be Hazardous to Your Health

Sleeping StickYesterday’s post on the National Zoo’s hideous acid-flashback panda wear and the role of the PandaCam in our life apparently introduced a fair number of people to that labor-wasting device (a.k.a. “The ‘Stick Pic”). We were especially heartened to receive this notice:

Wonketter –

Brilliant! All work in the newsroom ground to a halt. We are all watching the Stick on Panda-cam.

Television Without Pussy

Thursday, November 10th, 2005

A Womans Point Of ViewAn Instapundit reader looks at the declining audience for the MSM and comes up with a fascinating hypothesis: The numbers are down because there’s too much girlstuff on the tv.

I might be wrong, but in my view, the media gives so much to the women’s point of view that they demonstrate disrespect, or at the very least, dismissiveness, for men and masculinity and fatherhood. I’m convinced that this is the reason men are no longer interested in watching anything but sports.

Has this person not seen “Stacked”? Wonders Insty’s correspondent: “It seems like there MIGHT be some significant business opportunity there.” Yes. I believe it’s called “The Playboy Channel.” MORE »

Miles O’Brien’s Proustian hurricane blog: The “LSU Chancellor. . . led us to a campus cafeteria for some breakfast. . .I found the school fare pretty darn close to perfection.” [CNN via Gawker]
Roll Call, CQ, National Journal and the Hill play musical chairs. [Fishbowl DC]
The WP launches a local blog — plunging into the kind uncensored, balls-out, citizen journalism that the MSM can’t traditionally provide. Our favorite post so far? “Here’s A Good Read to Brighten Your Day.” [Focus on Fairfax]
Amy Alexander seeks an “idea-driven publication aimed at black Americans,” we seek an “idea-driven publication,” period. [WP]
