Out of all the fallout of last week’s story of bear David Phillips and Sen. Larry Craig’s seedy Hill hookup, and Phillips’ non-response to the story, we most enjoyed Air America Media’s The Young Turks coverage hosted by the talented Cenk Uygur, Jimmy Kimmell’s distant cousin, who was able to give a newsy, casual recap of the latest developments without giggling.

Yesterday, David Phillips shocked us back to the 1980s with the tale of his sloppy, cheap and degrading sex tryst with Sen. Larry Craig. Today, we have been bombarded with various reactions, comments and interview requests. The first response came from the senator-sucking bear himself, David Phillips, who apparently flew into some sort of red-faced rage of embarrassment when he first saw the post. While he agreed to come forward with his story, seeing his hairy, bearish image and his own words freaked him out. He finally calmed down, but not without some left-handed threats to Princess Sparkle Pony (our guest editor who broke the story). What we’ve been missing, though, is an on-the-record account from a source willing to come forward and tell what it’s like to have an actual romantic liaison with the Idaho Republican. Meet David Phillips, a local IT geek and bear-about-town.

Phillips was recently in a bar minding his own business when he heard Craig’s voice on the television. “I went pale and nearly vomited,” Phillips says. It was the man he remembered from one of his creepiest sexual encounters twenty years earlier. “After a truncated meal I went back to my hotel room and began unwinding and jotting down the memories that the voice had opened. I recalled The Follies, the furtive groping and pawing there, the odd following of this man in my car….. Crap!”
