Team Wonkette Party Crash: Watching TV With Jim Webb

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

06lastcall.jpgIt was a long night for us too, buddy.

The election night energy was cranked up to eleven at “The Party Everyone Was Calling ‘Jim Webb’s Victory Party.’” How we fooled Webb’s press staff into giving credentials to local lay-about Intern Nick we’ll never know, but he got in, and provides exclusive documentation of the most anti-climactic party East of the Bitterroot Mountains, after the jump.

Team Wonkette Party Crash: John Ashcroft’s Book Party

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

JA1.jpg“Each and every page is watermarked with the baby Jesus’ tears.”

God bless the Book Party Season. We haven’t paid for a drink in weeks. Even, surprisingly, at the party last night for John Ashcroft’s Never Again: How America Got Her Groove Back.

After the jump, our exclusive report, with even more exclusive pictures from our very own Intern Nick.

Patriotism Fails Local Football Team

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

Last night’s Redskins opener was a tasteful, sober celebration of the quiet dignity of American patriotism — just kiddin’! There was flags-a-plenty and Lee Greenwood on the loudspeakers!

Distributing flags to some 90,000 “greater Washington area” football fans who are rabid to start a promising season on the anniversary of 9/11 is a recipe for kitschy patriotism of the highest order. Intern Nick documented the vigorous flag wavin’, but had to end the recording before the spontaneous “U-S-A, U-S-A” chants began, because some things shouldn’t be shown even on the internet.

Despite having God and Country on their side, the Indiginous Americans lost by 3 to the Nordic Sailors.

After the jump, a big picture of Tom Cruise at the game with his scary robot wife and a child who might be his son.

Team Wonkette Field Trip: Congressional Beisbol

Friday, June 30th, 2006

IMG_9611sm.jpgTeam Wonkette Field Trip! From left: David Lat, the Comics Curmudgeon, Intern Nick (mostly hidden), and Alex Pareene.

Last night, Team Wonkette made its way out to RFK stadium for the annual Congressional Baseball Game, sponsored by Roll Call. The game was, well, sad and pathetic. The Republicans won 12-1 (Roberts recused himself). But man, what a trip. Drunk hill staffers everywhere, Katherine Harris wandering around, tight unis on middle-aged legislative paunches, and William Jefferson looking really intense. Pocket full of sandpaper, of course. But that’s another story — one for after the jump, in fact, illustrated with lovely pictures from Liz Gorman, Intrepid Girl Reporter.

Letter From the Editors: Don’t Cry For Me, Anacostia

Friday, June 30th, 2006

David%20Lat%20and%20Katherine%20Harris.JPGI’ve had my picture taken with Katherine Harris — in matching outfits, no less. My work here is done.

Greetings. It’s David Lat, one of your two editors here at Wonkette. And just like Star Jones, another ex-prosecutor-turned-sassy-personality, I’m using this week to say good-bye — at least for now.

As is usually the case, the gossip is true. I’m leaving the wild ‘n wacky world of politics, which I’ve enjoyed blogging about for the past five months, to return to my first love: the law. Not the practice of it, but writing about it; I’m going back to the legal blogosphere, from whence I came. Having spent a truckload of dough earnin’ a fancy law school degree, as well as several years in legal practice, I figure I might as well put it all to some productive use (with “productive” loosely defined).

The full details, plus teary farewells, after the jump (or just click here, then scroll down).

Memorial Day Weekend Mayhem Race Photos

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

memorial%20day%20bike%20race%201.jpg

It all starts out so tranquil and well-intentioned.

You’re used to seeing them riding around with your SEC filings and PAC checks in their bags. But couriers ride for fun, too.

And they party like it’s their job. Sunday’s Perverts Invitational open street race was a prelude to late night debauchery at Chief Ike’s that was gratuitous even for Adams Morgan.

Check out the fun photographs — including pics of sweaty, shirtless men — after the jump.

Photographic “Remainders”: A Day at the Game

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

nationals%20memorial%20day%20game%201.jpgCitizens! The time for bread and circuses is here — processed meat and beer for all!

Ah, the lazy Memorial Day weekend baseball outing — what a classical American tradition!

You don’t need us to cover the actual game action. But here are some pretty pictures from yesterday’s Nats game.

Check them out — courtesy of Nats fan Intern Nick — after the jump.

Who says we bloggers lack original content and never do reporting? Courtesy of Intern Nick, who has just returned from the scene, here are a few photographs of the hullaballoo at the Rayburn House Office Building.

Check them out, along with Nick’s commentary, after the jump.

“A Moment of Zen”: Random Pictures of Bike to Work Day

Saturday, May 20th, 2006

bike%20to%20work%20day%201.jpgAs we mentioned earlier this week, Friday was “Bike to Work Day” here in Washington. Bicyclists gathered at Freedom Plaza, then formed “commuter convoys” that fanned out to different destinations in the metropolitan area. Yesterday was a lovely day for cycling.

After the jump, courtesy of Intern Nick, a few more photos from “Bike to Work Day.”

A Call for Wonk’d Sightings: You People Need To Get Out More Often

Thursday, May 11th, 2006

Once again, we need your help. It’s Thursday morning, and Intern Nick — who keeps track of these things, so we don’t have to — reports that we have fewer than ten sightings for this week’s edition of Wonk’d. MORE »
