No longer the milquetoast second banana to John “Lurch” Kerry, John Edwards came in a really close second (possibly third, but he’s saying second) in Iowa and got all kinds of fired up about it. Despite being outspent 6 to 1 in Iowa, he gave a strangely rallying and simultaneously incredibly depressing speech about the two Americas without saying “the two Americas,” thankfully, which we’ll recap for you after the jump.

Mike Huckabee, seeking to channel Kang’s seminal policy position from the 1996 debates of “Abortions for some, miniature American flags for others,” ran circles around the abortion question on Meet the Press this weekend. He believes that the scientific evidence shows that life begins at conception, women are victims of abortionists and doctors who accept money for abortions should be punished. From this, we now assume that Huckabee’s position on Roe vs Wade is that abortions should only be legal when they’re free and that “we must move forward, not backward, upward not forward, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom.” All that twirling, though, can really make you dizzy, so be careful.

Last night, ABC and NBC News interviewed Getty photographer John Moore who (along with Farooq Naeem of Agence France-Presse) took the photos I published yesterday. During the interview, they showed one of the photographs I swore mainstream media wouldn’t show you (and the one the editors of the New York Times had the stones to put unedited on the front page above the fold this morning). Putting to rest any remaining speculation that he is completely delusional about his place on the American political scene, Congressman Tom Tancredo dropped his bid for the Presidency, saying he realized he wasn’t going to win Iowa. He told Neil Cavuto “We accomplished everything we set out to do, except win the Presidency,” because he saw Giuliani running a border security commercial He’s throwing his “support” behind the illegal-immigrant employing, Mexican Mormon descended Mitt Romney.
