Mark McKinnon, the lonesome cowboy who preferred to quit John McCain’s campaign rather than say a cross word about Barack Obama, is great friends with the former president George W. Bush and recently went biking with him at his ranch. McKinnon fell off his bicycle and BUNGED HISSELF UP GOOD, breaking his collarbone and knocking himself out for several minutes. When he awoke, he found himself in a tub full of ice with a seven-inch incision where his kidneys used to be, and George Bush jumped out of the closet wearing a Batman costume… [New York Post]
John Edwards Dons Spandex, Braves Crowds of Bloodthirty Iowans

John Edwards joined Lance Armstrong for some sort of bicycle race across Iowa today. Edwards was the only candidate to accept Armstrong’s invitation to ride in the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Race Across Iowa (or RAGBRAI), because the rest of them are too old or too scared of the thousands of dangerous amateur cyclists looking to run down a celebrity or politician. You’re used to seeing them riding around with your SEC filings and PAC checks in their bags. But couriers ride for fun, too.
And they party like it’s their job. Sunday’s Perverts Invitational open street race was a prelude to late night debauchery at Chief Ike’s that was gratuitous even for Adams Morgan.

As we mentioned earlier this week, Friday was “Bike to Work Day” here in Washington. Bicyclists gathered at Freedom Plaza, then formed “commuter convoys” that fanned out to different destinations in the metropolitan area. Yesterday was a lovely day for cycling.
