Kennedy Center Honors, Um, Happened

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

eff the kennedysThe Kennedy Center held its 30th Honors gala last night, and thankfully we didn’t have to sit through it. Among the honorees were Brian Wilson, Martin Scorsese, Diana Ross, Steve Martin and Leon Fleisher, who all must have been thrilled to see George W. and the Lady Bush attending. And the event organizers really spared no expense in celebrating Brian Wilson’s incomprehensibly brilliant career: Hootie and the Blowfish performed a medley of his Beach Boys work for him. So it sounds like it was a fun time at the Kennedy Center Honors last night. [WP]

* “Where the great Indie Pop debate has often looked suspiciously like Beatles v. Beach Boys Part II, Camera Obscura are one of a whole host of bands reminding us of Spector’s powerful influence.” [DCist]
* The shopping carts at Safeway have a “security system that makes the wheels lock when they pass a boundary.” But somehow, someway, “Somebody been takin’ them things.” [City Paper City Desk]
* Two Gnarls Barkley tickets for sale. [Just a Nats Fan]
