Pat Leahy Strangely Fascinated by the Lights on His Senate Desk
Patrick Leahy, Senator from Vermont, total hippie. Above, Pat and his lovely tie-dyed wife enjoy the groovy sounds of the surviving members of the Dead — and, apparently, sing a little backup. Full gallery of photos, by Terry Rogers, available here. They are totally stoned.
Leahy’s office, reached for comment, asked if we knew anyone going to Bonnaroo with extra room in their van.

i was at the party. it was a great time. it was fun to see the buttoned down DC types loosening their ties and unlocking their inner deadhead. NRPS was great. the Flying Other Brothers, on the other hand, might be the worst band ever. bobby and mickey rocked!

Every time I go to a Dead show or the spinoff bands' shows (like Ratdog or Phil and Friends) they're always thanking Pat Leahy or Nancy Pelosi or a bunch of other Senators and their staffers who are present and accounted for in the audience and at the show (they always have the best seats). I remember one show where they specifically mentioned Daschle and his staff because the tickets were sort of a "reward" for having to be on Cipro after getting the anthraxed-laced letters.
By the way, I'm not kidding about this: I On June 2, half of the members of Phish will be playing a sold out fundraiser for Bernie Sanders. (And there's a fabulous smiling picture of Bernie with his banjo on the site too).

Yeah, Deadheads aren't kidding when they say "Weir Everywhere."

Odd. I tried to post a comment and it didn't show.
What I tried to say was that whenever The Dead or the members' sub-progeny bands are in town, they're always thanking Pelosi, Leahy, and formerly Daschle (especially after the post-anthrax letters were delivered to that office) for being in the audience (in the best seats) and for their good work.
And coming up on June 2, two members of Phish (two announced, but more could show up) will be playing a sold out Vermont fundraiser for Bernie Sanders. Bernie's campaign website advertising "Honky Tonk the Vote" has a hilarious picture of Bernie with a banjo on his knee.

Jesus. Even when I lived in the San Francisco area, no one went to or talked about the Dead. But that's not surprising. DC is about 20 to 30 years behind in every other aspect, why not taste in music?
