Still a Distressing Lack of Ghostface on Politicos’ iPods
May we please have a major politician with even slightly interesting taste in music? Is that too much to ask? Another week, another politician’s iPod filled with the Stones (once again, we ask: No “Midnight Rambler?” “Under My Thumb” would be pretty funny, right? Can we please find out that Laura Bush has “Mother’s Little Helper” on her workout playlist?), the token Motown classics, and, of course, the fucking Eagles. And U2, cementing their position as the modern Eagles, but even more boring.
Anyway, the New York Post found out what’s on Hillary Clinton’s iPod. The only entertaining part of the story was when the New York Times was briefly sending this out in response to the “email this story to a friend” link:
Doomed Tennessee man: What’s on your iPod?
- Neil Young — “Needle and the Damage Done”
- Boyz II Men — “End of the Road”
- The Eagles — “The Last Resort”
(All right, we’ll also grant the Post this: The fact that the end of the piece makes it sound like Chuck Schumer made a very obvious point of telling them that he had an iPod too is pretty damn funny.)

I would think that at least one of our elected officials listens to 80's metal bands - Motley Crue, Iron Maiden, etc. Maybe they are just admitting to the "everyone loves them" faves to cover up for a dark obsession with Judas Priest.

No kidding - we've got a good number of Reps who are in the 30-40 range, putting them square in the 80's during their formative music years.
Enough with Aretha Franklin and the Rolling Stones - can we at least get some Duran Duran up in this bitch?
On another note, the Stones were pretty risqué back in their day, so maybe this means there is a 40-year delay between when a band is hip and when politicos can claim to like them. You know what this means... only 20 more years until Rep. Putnam admits to being down with OPP.

Does everybody's attention to new music terminate in or immediately after college? At least she didn't mention "Boston."

Don't be so sure, Diane. I live in Washington. I've seen what people here think is "fun" and "good" and "hip". And the crappy sound systems its all broadcast on. And I think, where have I seen this people before? Oh, yes, they were the idiots listening to Classic Rock stations in high school and singing along to Van Morrison. Even at 16, current music was too cutting edge for them.
