Clooney: Nearly As “Funny” As His Movies Are “Exciting”

At last night’s National Board of Review 2005 awards gala George Clooney desperately tried to insert some political humor into the night’s festivities:
Accepting his best film award, George Clooney brought up Good Night and Good Luck co-writer Grant Heslov, and then made his own detour. “I don’t want to do any damage to the Alito nomination, but Grant and I were at a midnight screening of Brokeback Mountain last night. Judge Alito was there. He had been there since, like, 3 o’clock I think. Wearing chaps. A big cowboy hat, chaps and that funny bolo tie thing.”
We don’t blame Clooney for trying to spice things up. Syriana and Good Night and Good Luck are two of the most boring movies of the year. After Syrianna and Solaris, he’s 2/3 towards completing his tryptophan trilogy. And let’s not forget, gay jokes are ok when made by self-righteous, second-rate liberal filmmakers. It’s only hate speech when delivered by Gene Shalit.
