Bill Frist Will Not Be Sending You a Check
Things you shouldn’t get too excited about:
First: $100 check from Uncle Sam. Psych! Yeah, it turns out the part where it was funded by taxing the oil industry didn’t sit too well with the oil industry. Who coulda seen that one coming? Seriously, is Frist seeking the Republican nomination by suggesting handouts, new taxes, and out of control spending? If so, we may endorse him. We like out-of-control anything, and we were pretty excited about that $100, especially considering that we don’t own a car.
Second: The logs of White House visits by our good buddy Jack Abramoff. Scotty more or less said today “we’ll release them once we’re done scrubbing them” (paraphrase, but close enough). McClellan doesn’t even care anymore, he’s just gonna start openly declaring that they’re deleting emails and shredding documents as fast as they can. Seriously, start watching the briefings, they’re gonna get awesome.

this is discouraging news, hmm I'll have to turn to my secret weapon, funding the fuel refund by taxing the oil industry. Brilliant!

Yet another example of the genuis that is the U.S. Senate leadership.
America has a complex issue with gas prices, the causes of which are many, including increased global demand, limited U.S. refining capacity, the annual spike in prices due to the winter-to-summer conversion, and as-of-yet-unfounded charges of "price gauging" by oil companies.
How does the Senate address this complex problem? Send us $100 checks like we are 9-year-olds to be bought of with a new toy because daddy drank too much last night and hit mommy.
You guys put the "douche bag" in leadership.

Why shouldn't the Republican leadership try something this fucking stupid? Americans practically wet themselves, like Dick Cheney in front of a gaggle of wing-clipped geese, in 2001 when they received their Tax Relief for America's Workers! checks for $300 or $600.
I'm sure with the right $30 million catch phrase, that the GOP can sell us this rebate scheme as well. Maybe they can just print "Mission Accomplished" on each check.. after all, we've driven the profits of the oil industry into the stratosphere since March 2003.

Shock of the century: Barnacle writes an angry, anti-Republican comment devoid of any humor.
And yes, Barny, "we've" driven oil profits of oil industries into the "stratosphere" since March 2003. Increased demand in China and India for a scarce resource, further limited oil refinery capacity in the US, and increased marginal taxation on the federal, state, and local levels have had nothing to do with increased gas prices. Right?
And where are the profit margins of oil companies, as of 2005? 9%. A whopping 9%, putting oil companies in the bottom 20% of all Fortune 500 companies.
Those crazy bastards.
