You ever wonder what David Bradley thought about Andrew Sullivan? Or about David Bradley? Here’s a hint: he loves them both! An operative sent us one of David’s periodic rambling company-wide memos, this one announcing the (here’s the news, by the way) hiring of Andrew Sullivan at The Atlantic, and the moving of his blog there from Time’s NEW AND IMPROVED website.
My Colleagues:
Probably lifting the thought from someone else, though I’ve long forgotten, I’ve spent my adult years believing that life is a sine curve of inevitable highs following inevitable lows. What is new to me, in this second career, is that the highs are much higher in journalism and the lows much lower. I had not understood, before, how wide could be the band of emotions.
This afternoon is one of the high highs for me. Andrew Sullivan has accepted James Bennet’s and my offer to join T he Atlantic as Senior Editor. Andrew will publish his blog, The Daily Dish , exclusively on The Atlantic website and contribute longer-form pieces to the magazine. To say this is a lift to our internet work hardly honors what Andrew has accomplished. Ranked in that highest priesthood of American bloggers, Andrew has a monthly following of over two million readers.
The entire crazy letter, including baked bribery, after the jump.

This said, my interest in Andrew long precedes my understanding of the web. Before I purchased the National Journal , I knew of two writers who, for me, served as standard bearers of intellectual courage and narrative drive in journalism: Michael Kelly and Andrew Sullivan. In fact, among Michael’s and my first efforts together was attempting - and failing - to recruit Andrew to The Atlantic’s pages. Michael presented the magazine and I, literally, served scones. That was six years past. It was the first of several attempts.
With today’s news especially, but in all circumstance, I want you to know how happy I am to work with you in this profession.
Andrew will begin to work with James here in the Watergate by early February. Please welcome him then.
With my best wishes.
David

We have a "priesthood?" That makes Ana - what? - like, a bishop? But who gets to be Pope of the Bloggers?
And does Jeff Gannon get to be the altar boy?
So they tried to lure this guy over with poppin' fresh scones? Damn! What a clever strategy. I guess free tickets to a Patriots game doesn't do it for Mr. Sullivan - anyone surprised? They sure saved themselves a lot of money in any case. I doubt they'll make any with him on board. And I just re-upped my subscription - if only I'd known!
But who gets to be Pope of the Bloggers?
I would suggest settling it with a mudwrestling competition, but the thought of Glenn Reynolds in anything more revealing than hypocrisy made me lose my lunch.
& with this, Tuesday Morning Quarterback wrote "GAME OVER" in his notebook.
Daisychain.
What I can't figure out is what this has to do with Stone Cold Steve Austin, twirl filter or no.
That was quite the blow job.
Do you think David Bradley wore and apron and fussed with the napkins and such?
Anyone else find the image of Sullivan in Daliesque-floppy-clock-closed-eyed ecstasy somewhat disturbing?
