Good morning! Is everything still horrible in Trump’s America?

WHY, YES!! Yes it is!!

And today we have some next level shit to deal with. But we will get through it together with the internet’s favorite coping mechanism, Porn Cat Photos. Meow!

Soon we’ll be enjoying a BIG, BEAUTIFUL trade war with Mexico to fund the BIG, BEAUTIFUL WALL. But in the meantime, we’ll have to content ourselves with paying taxes so men with guns can abuse random Hispanic people. Ugh, so unsatisfying!

Behold the baby ocelot, a big cat whose habitat will soon be sliced in half by a pointless, fucking wall.

Don’t fret, because the Trump administration has come up with the COHERENTEST immigration plan ever to deal with those bad hombres. It has two main subsections.

I. Malevolent Incompetence; and

II. Incompetent Malevolence

On Tuesday, six armed ICE officials showed up in an El Paso County Courthouse to arrest a woman known as IEG. Why is she only identified by her initials? Because even Texas protects the identity of domestic violence victims, and IEG had just been granted a protective order against her abusive partner.

IEG had filed three police reports alleging that she had been punched, kicked, and chased with a knife. The woman’s only criminal offense was reentering the US illegally after being deported. Also, too, getting the crap kicked out of her which is a crime in Texas probably.

Those SIX(!!!) ICE agents knew she was definitely a bad hombre.

How did they know? Well, they knew because THE GUY KICKING THE CRAP OUT OF HER CALLED THEM UP AND TOLD THEM that she could be found that very morning in the 65th District Court Family Court Section trying to protect herself from physical violence.

These ICE officers have earned that commendation for MALEVOLENT INCOMPETENCE by further punishing a victim of domestic violence and rewarding her abuser. And discouraging the reporting of crime by an entire community of vulnerable people is just above and beyond.

Full marks, Lads! Indeed, that is some A+ MALEVOLENT INCOMPETENCE.

But why should Texas have all the fun?!?!?!

This Sunday in Washington state, 23-year-old Daniel Ramirez Medina was at home asleep when ICE agents knocked on the door looking for his father.

Because this shitshow is already in court, we can quote the complaint filed on Medina’s behalf.

Following his arrest, Mr. Ramirez’s father granted the ICE officers permission to enter his home so that he could inform his two sons about his arrest. When the ICE agents entered the home, they asked Mr. Ramirez, ‘Are you legally here?’ Mr. Ramirez replied, ‘Yes, I have a work permit.’ On the recommendation of his brother (a DACA recipient who was also then present), Mr. Ramirez declined to answer additional questions at that time.

[It’s not clear why these guys refer to Medina as Mr. Ramirez. But their leader made “Prime Minister Shinzo” crash a wedding. So cultural competence is obviously NBD. Editing to add: Unless we are wrong and it’s a double Hispanic surname and Ramirez is his dad’s name. “Prime Minister Shinzo” is still effing dumb, though.]

Mr. Medina (or Ramirez!) told them that he was brought to the US at age 7 and was thus eligible for a deferral of deportation proceedings under the Deferred Action for Child Arrivals program (DACA). He showed the agents his paperwork, issued by the federal government, staying his deportation and allowing him to work legally until May of 2018. The agents told Medina, “It doesn’t matter because you weren’t born here.”

Wow, that seems pretty goddamn Incompetent. Can we add in some Malevolence?

“ICE officers took Mr Ramirez into custody based on his admitted gang affiliation and risk to public safety.”

[ICE Spokeswoman] Richeson declined to elaborate further on how ICE established the man was a member of a gang.

Oh, okay. The guy holding a work permit just volunteered that he was a gang member, so the men with guns HAD to take him into custody.

FUN FACT: DACA recipients pay a $495 fee and undergo an extensive background check every two years. The renewal states, “Unless terminated, this decision to defer removal action will remain in effect for 2 years from the date of this notice.”

So, after stumbling upon a guy who had an actual license to be in America, these assholes arrested him and then called him a gang member to justify the fuckup. Impressive Incompetent Malevolence!

To be fair, these guidelines come straight from the top. Last month Donald Trump sat down with ABC to discuss his plans for the DACA program and the kids who were brought here as children.

They shouldn’t be very worried. They are here illegally. They shouldn’t be very worried. I do have a big heart. We’re going to take care of everybody. We’re going to have a very strong border. We’re gonna have a very solid border. Where you have great people that are here that have done a good job, they should be far less worried. We’ll be coming out with policy on that over the next period of four weeks.

Well, President You’re Fired has a “big heart”, so it’s all good then, right?

We need all the kitties. STAT.

You know another unintended consequence of terrorizing a community? It makes them ONE BRAZILLION PERCENT LESS LIKELY TO REPORT OUTBREAKS OF DISEASE that typically start spreading where poor people are concentrated. Fucking hell. This woman was trans –

“The complaint, filed Feb. 9, indicates that Gonzalez, whom Bernal identified as transgender, had been deported six times since 2010 — apparently after arrests for crimes including possession of stolen mail, false imprisonment and assault.

Its narrative differs, however, from what Bernal unearthed in her investigation in a key respect. The complaint says Gonzalez was arrested on the street, while investigators looking into the detention for Bernal said it happened inside the courthouse.

“There were six ICE agents on the 10th floor,” Bernal said.

The arrest comes at a time of heightened concerns that under the administration of President Donald Trump, ICE is expanding who it tries to deport and how it goes about deporting them.

    Related story:

ICE conducts immigration raid in Las Cruces

The woman is being held in the El Paso County Jail under a federal ICE detainer, Bernal said.

Her arrest comes to light along with news that ICE conducted an immigration raid in Las Cruces on Wednesday, rounded up 51 people in Austin since last week and conducted sweeps in numerous other states.

Bernal, whose office is conducting an investigation into the incident, said the ICE agents said they went to court after receiving a tip. Gonzalez’s live-in boyfriend had earlier been detained by ICE, Bernal said.

“We suspect it’s the (alleged) abuser” who tipped off ICE about the woman, Bernal said.

El Paso County officials say they don’t want ICE to get into the habit of going to the courthouse and acting on such tips.

It’s common for abusers to seek to control undocumented partners by threatening to refer them to immigration authorities, said 65th District Judge Yahara Lisa Gutierrez, who oversees the court that issued Gonzalez’s protective order.”

Seattle Mayor Ed Purray, also known as Mayor Ed Murray.

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray and City Councilmember M. Lorena González (Position 9, Citywide) issued the following statement after news of the arrest of Daniel Ramirez Medina, a 23-year old Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipient living in Seattle with his father:

“President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program has given thousands of people who know no other home than the U.S. the opportunity to be members of our community, have jobs, go to school and raise a family. Because of Congress’ refusal to pass comprehensive immigration reform, DACA has been a critical avenue for people who were brought here as children to live and work in the U.S. without fear of being detained or deported. It has helped break down walls in our communities and made them safer.

“The DACA program remains the current law of the land and DACA recipients continue to have the legal right to live and work in our country.

“Information about the arrest of a DACA recipient last Friday remains scarce and questions remain unanswered by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). More details should be released about what led to this arrest, including whether the detention of a DACA recipient is a shift in immigration policy related to DACA recipients. We have sought these answers from ICE’s Seattle Field Office.

“Additionally, given the uncertainty around President Trump’s immigration policies, the Administration and ICE should clarify their stance on this policy. Uncertainty and ambiguity lead to fear in the immigrant community. No person should live in fear that they or a family member will be taken away by the federal government without notice or cause. This fear makes our communities less safe as it makes immigrants less likely to report crimes or work with local law enforcement. And it robs our friends and neighbors of the American dream they were promised whenever they came to our country.

“We want to remind our residents that no City of Seattle official will ever ask about your immigration status. And the Seattle Police Department will not help ICE detain and deport immigrants who are doing nothing more than raising their families and contributing to the vibrant culture and successful economy of our city.

“However, please also know that ICE officials still have the power and jurisdiction to enter into the boundaries of Seattle and conduct these harmful actions without notifying the City. If you are an immigrant, we advise that you review two online video presentations produced by our partners Northwest Immigrant Rights Project and Colectiva Legal del Pueblo. These have important Know Your Rights information that you should understand during this uncertain time:“

Mayor Murray and Councilmember Gonzalez are requesting details of the arrest from Seattle’s local ICE office this evening. The Mayor’s Office, Council and the Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs will continue actively monitoring this incident and any other reports of immigration enforcement activities happening within Washington state.

And once in, without serious actions to monitor them and hold them responsible when they screw up, you cannot get rid of them. Local cops that mistreat prisoners, take a confrontational attitude toward anyone, but especially people of color, shoot first and ask questions later face little risk of any punishment and are often rewarded with promotions. Sometimes after costing local governments millions in civil penalties. It is almost like the brownshirts of Nazi Germany are in charge of law enforcement. Anyone with any sense of fair play and obeying the laws and rights of everyone is automatically rejected. Remember, the union representing the Border Patrol agents endorsed Trump. I wonder what they will say when he signs a national right to work law and their union goes belly up.

There are not enough kittens, puppies, lambies, canned clams, or dick jokes in the whole world to get us through this. If it weren’t for Wonkette and the extremely fine people herein, I would have dissolved into a sobbing puddle of incoherent, babbling, goo some time ago.

THIS! Wonkette is my saving grace, my sanity, my retreat from this insane country that we have become. And the dick jokes….oh and how masterfully Evan calls dumpf a dumbass fuckbaby!!

Wow, that gray cat is wild! I see our fluffy white cat every few days, check occasionally to be sure he’s still alive. I rescued him from a snowbank in Jan 12 years ago. He was defenseless, declawed and in our bird feeder scrounging bird seed; I chased him away a few times, then realized he was abandoned, so I lured him inside with an open door and bowl of milk and kept him. Some people down the road moved about the time he showed up and he likely ran off during the move. He’s about 14 now and has never had much to do with me, but likes my wife and kids; lives in my son’s room. Stupid cat! Hah!
And that’s my cat story. :)

Not nearly enough cats. Not even close to enough.

If I had my own cat to post, I would post him/her too.

  • I’m sure that someone has posted this by now, but it is the Catholic tradition that the children take the mother’s maiden name as one of their many middle names. So, more than likely, Daniel Ramirez Medina’s mother’s family name was Ramirez.

Also, too, and, but, however, the ICE agents arresting and deporting IEG are now an extension of her abuser. It’s always nice when our government helps a poor helpless abusive asshole out and gives his victim one last kick when she’s finally getting to be beyond his reach. It’s just too bad that she wasn’t running or resisting arrest so they could have shot her dead. That’s the end goal of her abuser, so in that sense, I guess they failed and she won! Yay?

I’m tearing up reading the domestic violence story.

    Fucking hell.
