As the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to fall, the Washington Post has once again launched a dumb contest to select new dumb op-ed contributors. They sent us an e-mail about this because they know we are fans of their opinion page, and apparently they are calling this “America’s Next Great Pundit, Season II,” which makes it sound like a real teevee show! Wow, if only! That would certainly get ratings. So you are once again invited to submit an entry into this contest, but please no minorities or women or people younger than 55. That was the problem they had with last year’s contest.
We’ll accept entries as soon as the online entry form goes live on Sept. 20, 2010 at 12:01 p.m. ET. Use the form to send us a short opinion essay (400-word limit) pegged to a topic in the news and an additional paragraph (100-word limit) on yourself and why you should win. Entry deadline: Oct. 1, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Post editors will pick the top 50 entries on the basis of style, intelligence and freshness of argument (but not on whether we agree or disagree with your point of view).
So please copy and paste Richard Cohen’s latest into that first box and write “am white and haven’t left the house in since 1971” into that second one.
After each round, a panel of Post personalities will offer kudos and catcalls
The winner will get an all-expenses-paid trip to Germany with Charles Krauthammer to tour Holocaust sites and note how they haven’t allowed any mosques to be built in them. [WP]
