A Children’s Treasury of Breitbart Commenters Reacting To Dave Weigel’s Memoir Thing

by Jack Stuef

This umbrella is FAKE. Posting on umbrella sites won't trick us into thinking it's real, Weigel. This morning Grandpa Dave Weigel sat the Internet on his lap to tell it the story of the time he was a political reporter, his first non-tweeted public statement since being forced to resign from the Washington Post on Friday for having a sense of humor. To let wingnuts know he doesn’t really, in his heart, want to set them all on fire, Weigel chose to explain himself on one of Andrew Breitbart’s wingnut websites. Q: Did the flock re-embrace Weigel with open arms? A: There is a comments section.

ARDavis71 leads us off with a story of his own:

I had a chance meeting with David (his card said Washington Independent) when he was covering the National Tea Party convention in Nashville. As I sat at a back table at one of the presentations he sat down next to me and started asking me the “normal” questions like where I was from and why I was there. He seemed to be jotting down notes.

After I explained how I got started being concerned about politics, he quickly got up and explained he had some other things to report on. He appeared nervous to be talking to someone with a real (and untold) story.

Haha, Dave Weigel hates reporting! Thankfully he got resigned.

DavidMontgomery, who, yes, is angrily holding an assault rifle in his avatar, sees through Weigel’s bullshit, and despite his full beard is maybe secretly a mean teen-ager?

OK I will try again…

Dude, if you are pro G A Y Marriage, Open Borders, and Voted for ObaMao the ONE thing you are NOT is conservative. You may not even qualify as a RINO.

You are in the midst of an identity crisis. Tough Luck. If it walks like a duck…

PS – Get a new photo. You look like a college freshman who does not need to shave yet. NOBODY will take you seriously who looks at that picture.

PPS – Try Proactive might help the “skin” condition.

Haha, that’s not real human skin, that’s socialism.

caseoftheblues wins with +21 votes for being the first person to FINALLY call out Weigel for his “boot licking reporting of the Obama administration” in his role as somebody who reports on the conservative movement:

You and those like you have sullied the profession of journalism probably beyond repair….your refusal to do your jobs and instead be used by Democrats and Unions have imperiled our country and our future. Your boot licking reporting of the Obama administration has allowed unthought of corruption, dirty back room dealing, civil rights violations, our very Republic to be sold off in pieces to Unions and other “valued” voting and campaign contributing blocs. The daily atrocities that occur in the present administration…and you and other “journalist”….ask nothing, investigate nothing and in fact to aLL YOU CAN TO COVER-UP and distract with those important stories about Sarah Palin and her breasts etc… You( and your entire profression) should be as sickened by yourself as we are of you… but you don’t appear to have the insight or understanding to grasp how utterly you have failed in your profession and the role you were supposed to perform in our Representative Republic.

When hovered over, Mikeyh0 is revealed as “Me? I’m just an older cabbie who loves this country. Arizona is home.” So of course he knows Weigel is bisexual, expertly:

Will the real David Weigel just go away? Maybe Hollywood could do your life’s story. “The Days of Whine and Poses.” Never heard of this guy but he must be important somehow to someone, some where. A bit of a switch-hitter, I’d say.

Finally, maxine_summit gets down to the real issue, Weigel using potty-mouth adjectives, something great Renaissance artists would NEVER do:

Just because we have freedom of speech does not mean stooping to using foul adjectives such as your “mind [----]” to describe mental confusion.

A great writer uses words like the Italian Renaissance painter, Michelangelo used paint.

Something to think about, Dave. Something to think about.

God love then, they are funny the righties. As long as they stay to the overblown drama queen hissy fits on web sites and stay out of actual power.

JMP June 28, 2010 at 4:37 pm

How dare caseoftheblues try to credit Weigel for breaking the story of Palin’s new breasts; that was Wonkette, give credit where it’s due.

Prommie June 28, 2010 at 4:41 pm

Our “very Republic” hath been sold unto the Unions! O Tempore, O mores! Forsooth, the shame of Weigel’s lickspittle adoration of Nobama will reverberate down the generations of history!

These peoples are living in some kind of Colonial Williamsburgh Renaissance Fair make-pretend world-oh-drama, starring, themselves, as the beseiged underdogs who will soon prove through their bold, noble, valiant efforts, to be the saviors of our Great Republic!

comicbookguy June 28, 2010 at 4:42 pm

Michelangelo painted weiners, so the appropriate thing to call wing-nuts is…

Anonymous Office Zombie June 28, 2010 at 4:42 pm

“ObaMao” Excellent. Doesn’t roll off the tongue like Nobama, but still, props. Kind of like a Tea Party Jeopardy Before and After answer.

TGY June 28, 2010 at 4:44 pm

No, a great writer uses words like Andres Serrano used pee.

ArkansasFred June 28, 2010 at 4:44 pm

This looks messy. Thankfully, I have no idea who any of these people are.

ithasatilde June 28, 2010 at 4:47 pm

So, that part about Weigel being a “switch-hitter.” Is there video of that on YouTube now, or what?

charlesdegoal June 28, 2010 at 4:49 pm

The mind boggles, reels, shits bricks? What does MickeyhO object to exactly?

Come here a minute June 28, 2010 at 4:50 pm

To maxine_summit: In the words of the great Renaissance man patriot Dick Cheney, “[----] yourself”. (BTW, I am anticipating Forbesian “good news” on the former VP any day now.)

comicbookguy June 28, 2010 at 4:50 pm

“switch hitter”

Nice to know patriotic Merkuns still think about baseball once in a while

actor212 June 28, 2010 at 4:50 pm

I’m a liberal.

Why do my boots remain unlicked by the lamestream media???? More tongue, dammit!

bureaucrap June 28, 2010 at 4:51 pm

A great writer uses words like Rush Limbaugh uses oxycontin.

phineas_bounderby June 28, 2010 at 4:51 pm

The only thing I’ve bothered to read on Politic lately are the comments on the Weigel articles. They are freakin’ bugfuck crazy awesome (apologies to Michaelangelo, who would’ve never painted “bugfuck” on a ceiling).

actor212 June 28, 2010 at 4:51 pm

A great writer uses words like the Italian Renaissance painter, Michelangelo used paint.

So he uses them to describe bare breasts being suckled by perverted little babies?

OCKerouac June 28, 2010 at 4:51 pm

This totally makes sense. Just like when this group of patriots stood up against the Bush administration’s trampling of civil rights… Wait… What? These aren’t the same folks? What a mind-fuck…

Tundra Grifter June 28, 2010 at 4:52 pm

Apparently the T-Baggers can’t tell the difference between the job a PR flak is supposed to do and what a journalist sets out to accomplish.

Goes to show what too much ClusterFox can do to you!

Katydid June 28, 2010 at 4:54 pm

I can’t imagine why Weigel wrote anything on that shit site. What did he expect would happen? And they think liberals are vicious? I guess he’s just young, which makes me feel really goddammed old, and I’m only a young middle.

slappypaddy June 28, 2010 at 4:54 pm

a great writer brushes words onto the wet plaster of the ceilings and walls of roman churches? i don’t get it…

fapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfap…slap OW! slap OW! slap OW! slap OW!

Does this mean that Glenn Beck is going to show us how libertarians are just like Stalin on his magic blackboard?

Holden Caulfield June 28, 2010 at 4:59 pm

[re=607975]actor212[/re]: Show some respect, these are conservatives.

They use words to describe muscular men with tiny winkies.

SayItWithWookies June 28, 2010 at 5:00 pm

A great writer uses words like the Italian Renaissance painter, Michelangelo used paint.

Um — he did. And then a teabagger came along and painted floating draperies over all the genitals.

mumblyjoe June 28, 2010 at 5:03 pm

A great writer uses words like the Italian Renaissance painter, Michelangelo used paint.

Well, Michelangelo was primarily a sculptor, but whatever, let’s run with it. From the wiki:

Censorship always followed Michelangelo, once described as “inventor delle porcherie” (“inventor of obscenities”, in the original Italian language referring to “pork things”). The infamous “fig-leaf campaign” of the Counter-Reformation, aiming to cover all representations of human genitals in paintings and sculptures, started with Michelangelo’s works.

So, you’re saying the problem is that Weigel isn’t obscene enough to live up to the likes of that famous inventor of obscenties? Or is the problem simply that all teabaggers are idiots? (HELPFUL HINT: Yes.)

Oblios Cap June 28, 2010 at 5:05 pm

Those foul adjectives! Doesn’t anybody know how to correctly use adverbs anymore? Also.

Katydid June 28, 2010 at 5:05 pm

[re=607991]mumblyjoe[/re]: That was one helluva fig leaf they hadda fashion for the David. He was a real man. Sigh.

Monsieur Grumpe June 28, 2010 at 5:05 pm

What? No Hitler comparisons? These are obviously forgeries.

Aurelio June 28, 2010 at 5:06 pm

Why do I have trouble caring about these people?

JMP June 28, 2010 at 5:13 pm

[re=607970]Come here a minute[/re]: It is strange, how some folk seem to think that saying or typing “fuck” is the worst anyone could possibly do. It’s just a word, people, a very useful one.

[re=607974]phineas_bounderby[/re]: Of course Michelangelo would never have painted “fuck” in public; he would have painted “cazzo,” according to google translate.

GOPCrusher June 28, 2010 at 5:14 pm

[re=607995]Monsieur Grumpe[/re]: I didn’t see a single comment claiming “Fascist-Commie-Socialist Obama” which makes me question the validity of the comments.

PsycGirl June 28, 2010 at 5:14 pm

Weigel has allowed “unthought of corruption”? I find this very useful when I am accosted with inconvenient information: I just “unthink” about it, without anyone allowing me! The writer probably uses it every time he gets his disability check for mental illness.

saucemaster June 28, 2010 at 5:16 pm

wtf is ‘weigel’? this is the most boring thread on wonkette since the daily screen shots of palin’s twitters.

mumblyjoe June 28, 2010 at 5:17 pm

[re=607995]Monsieur Grumpe[/re]: I was pretty sure Breitbart and co. reserved their A-material for the browns, though, so I’m willing to reserve judgement here.

slappypaddy June 28, 2010 at 5:18 pm

that michael guy painted with words, too. here’s some:

Not too much learning, as some arrogate,
But the small brains of dullards have sufficed
To make us wretched and the world enthrall.

Meatmaker June 28, 2010 at 5:19 pm

Why do these people hate punctuation? I can see why caseoftheblues leaves out his hyphens, since some people include them (unnecessarily) in evil terms like “Italian-American.” But isn’t punctuation generally conservative? Like style? Especially when you’re going to complain about the language people use?

momus June 28, 2010 at 5:23 pm

Wouldn’t the Dems have to buy the country back from the groups Bush and the Confederate Republicans sold it to before they could resell it?

Maus June 28, 2010 at 5:24 pm

Weigel is a flaming jackass if he expected any sympathy from the Breitbart set, the exact teabaggers who flipped their shit over at the WaPo. I hope he continues this route of being humiliated over and over until he realizes how stupid the conservative media is, that they’re not like him nor are they catering to him.

Troubledog June 28, 2010 at 5:30 pm

Caseoftheblues: Sullying journalism is not news. Journalism exists for the sole purpose of being sullied. I sullied it myself with two handfuls of its hair, smacking dat ass like a randy buck for a short time in the mid-80′s. Certainly it is in no danger of sullying by Dave “ratfuck” Weigel. Trudy Weigel, perhaps, but not Dave.

DavidMontgomery: Analysis shows DW’s avatar is a photo of Kyle MacLachlan from Twin Peaks, circa 1990. It’s meant to be ironic. In redneck terms, it would be like…

/thinking

Never mind. I don’t think there is any redneck equivalent to irony.

Jim89048 June 28, 2010 at 5:36 pm

caseoftheblues has it all wrong. NObody wanted to cover up the coverage of Palin’s new sweater puppies. They yearn to be free.

Troubledog June 28, 2010 at 5:39 pm

Also, this thread is now about SCOTUS. Because it sounds like an unspeakable sex act.

mumblyjoe June 28, 2010 at 5:44 pm

[re=608011]mumblyjoe[/re]: And yes, I’m calling him and his crew a bunch of racists. Even though it is LITERALLY THE WORST THING YOU CAN DO TO SOMEONE.

finette June 28, 2010 at 5:58 pm

OK, now.

“Fuck” is a verb, except when it’s a noun, as in “you sick fuck.”

Mindfuck is properly written as one word and not two, I believe, and is a noun.

In no way is either of these words an adjective.

Diabeetis June 28, 2010 at 6:01 pm

The Weigel fallout says to me that libertarians should stop supporting the Right since the latter still considers them a bunch of commies in spite of loving teh capitalism (it isn’t just pro-Obama, socially-liberal Weigel they’ve attacked, either). But a lot of ‘em will continue to do so anyway because they believe those empty promises of tax cuts—-it’s like battered wife syndrome or something.

Incidentally, some of the Reasonoids suck up to Breitbart, too. Was the magazine that desperate for funding?

chascates June 28, 2010 at 6:06 pm

So he was a ‘fair, objective’ reporter doing his job but an opinionated, snarky liberal on his own time. Breitbart et al. have never been fair and objective in any context. Fuck all of these people. God, I hope the next pandemic is seen as a ‘gummit plot’ and they don’t get shots and die horribly. While I watch.

Diabeetis June 28, 2010 at 6:07 pm

And what’s with Breitbart fanboy nonsense about unions taking over America? In reality, American organized labor is on a death spiral.

Tommmcatt June 28, 2010 at 6:09 pm

[re=608051]finette[/re]:

I disagree. You can call someone a fuck toad, for example, or a fuck stick. Wouldn’t it be an adjective then?

[re=607995]Monsieur Grumpe[/re]: You know WHO ELSE savagely attacked their supposed allies?

AnnieGetYourFun June 28, 2010 at 7:02 pm

I was listening to the BBC today (commie) and they were talking to an American reporter about the reversal of Chicago’s handgun ban. The host asked the reporter, “HAS the ban made any difference in terms of the death rate by gunshots?” and the reporter answered, “Well, it depends on who you ask. The supporters of the ban say ‘yes’, the supporters of handgun rights say ‘no’ – so it really depends on the opinion of who you are asking.”

No, you fucking nitwit, it depends on actual numbers. I’m not saying you can’t skew statistics, but you’re a goddamn fucking reporter – look into it. YOU DON’T HAVE TO ASK PEOPLE WITH A VESTED INTEREST IN THE TOPIC HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT IT.

Anyway, my point is that “journalists” like THAT have sullied the profession of journalism even more than people like Bill O’Reilly or Sean Hannity, because they lack the balls to really report on anything.

chascates June 28, 2010 at 7:10 pm

[re=608088]AnnieGetYourFun[/re]: Last weekend Chicago had 3 deaths out of 52 shootings and there were 29 shootings this weekend; no word on the deaths. So if shootings go up it’s because having guns for self-defense doesn’t work or else because having guns leads to increased defense. The same as if shootings go down.

Lobbyists here in Austin are signing up en masse for concealed carry classes because anyone with a concealed carry permit can pass right through security into the Texas capitol building; everyone else goes through a metal detector and has their bags/packages searched.

TGY June 28, 2010 at 8:45 pm

[re=608088]AnnieGetYourFun[/re]: Agreed. I heard that, also. The US press puts the ‘waff’ in ‘waffle’. or something

Spike June 28, 2010 at 9:13 pm

A great writer uses words like the Italian Renaissance painter, Michelangelo used paint.

I’m glad she clarified that she was referring to the “Italian Renaissance painter, Michelangelo”. Had she not qualified that, I would have naturally assumed that she was referring to the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Michaelangelo,” and it would have confused me as to why a turtle was using paint.

But I guess thats just illustrative of why she is a “great writer.”

BeWoot June 28, 2010 at 9:29 pm

All real journalists are gay atheist bolsheviks. How did those ‘baggers not know this even before the unmasking of Weigel?

Winski June 28, 2010 at 9:30 pm

Since ALL the nut-o-sphere thinks Weigel is a loose screw and has been banished from the world of bashing right-wing nutbags from every angle possible, here’s a blast for you:

Weigel was hired by MSNBC TODAY… You’re done…say goodnight gracie….

[re=608051]finette[/re]: Could be a verb, could be a verb. As in, “maxine-summit, me and my commie fascist bros were planning to mindfuck you with strange chemicals, until we realized you’d have to have a mind. Also, the juxtaposition of ‘fuck’ and ‘maxine-summit’ made us all puke up our testicles (as painted by Big Mick)”.

Tim June 29, 2010 at 12:33 am

Who the fuck is Dave Wiegel?

Zorg June 29, 2010 at 3:10 am

Teabaggers might be interested to know Michelangelo was gay. Also, not to be too much of a bourgeois frondeur, I should add Michelangelo thought painting was a waste of time, devoting himself to sculpting, architecture and frescoes. Apart from that, maxine_summit nailed it. Totes.

Geogre June 29, 2010 at 7:09 am

1. Journalists are not great writers, by and large, and are not setting out to be. The trick is for them to, in recognizing the limitations of their medium, to not then say, “Well, screw it, I’ll just use lazy words.”

2. Web forums are not journalism.

3. Political writing is a separate matter. Only a few authors have ever managed to produce muscular political satire and commentary in times of stress with clean gloves. Orwell is the last I recall. The rest of the great political writers, though, including journalists, have realized what Jonathan Swift said, that satire is “the art of flinging the well-timed turd.” Vituperation and invective are necessary components of language, and they’re criminal only when people go with lazy words.

Thing is, though, people other than Breitbart’s crowd are reacting with the most sniffy hypocrisy. The journalists who refuse to admit that they were using (and are still using) Pentagon “experts” who were told to provide disinformation about the Iraq war (David Gregory is the worst of the lot) are talking about how Weigel was not objective about the people he reported on. “How could he dislike them?” they ask. “How dare he criticize important people like Matt Drudge” (who is not a journalist, not a media figure, just a web dweeb), they ask. Meanwhile, when asked how they could continue to use agit-prop martinets, they say, “We’re professional journalists. We don’t have to answer questions from little people like you!”

Mr Blifil June 29, 2010 at 8:50 am

Ha ha his name wasn’t even Michelangelo.

Morans.

slowuncle June 29, 2010 at 3:53 pm

When Weigel was with The Washington Independent I would frequent the blogfests quite regularly. It was a fantastic Teatard-magnet, and tormenting those freaks is a (not so) guilty pleasure of mine. When Weigel moved on to the Post, TWI immediately became the most boring waste of time you could imagine.
