  • HARRY REID TO GIVE MERGED SENATE HEALTH CARE BILL DETAILS AT 3:15: Ooh, Harry Reid is going to announce the particulars of his merged Senate health care bill in a press conference at 3:15! Supposedly it will include a public option with an opt-out plan for states (”modest boondoggle”), which is good, considering the alternative would a trigger (”massive, tragicomic boondoggle”). But one can never be sure with Harry Reid! We’re putting our money on the announcement of no health care reform whatsoever, just a 75% cap gains tax cut. [Greg Sargent/The Plum Line]

The announcement at 3:15 will be that you should have taken the 3:10 to Coma.

  2. Fight fiercely, Harry!

    WHAT THE HECK –

I guess Harry gave Olympia Snowe enough oral sex recently in order to feel free enough to try and do his job.

Now, for those eating lunch at their desks in office or cube land, I dare you to try and drive that visual from your mind.

    Bon appetit!

    :evil laugh:

Oh dear — Harry might make us all proud (for a change) — but I still feel like I’m watching a fat blind lady step onto a tightrope.

  5. freakishlystrong says at 2:33 pm, October 26th, 2009

Let’s see, who will “Opt out” of this modest boondoggle?
Texas, Florida, Alaska, South Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana. All the States that need it most.

  6. Hooray For Anything says at 2:36 pm, October 26th, 2009

Maybe he’s just going to give a statement concerning the Chamber of Commerce’s whining and tell them to kiss his ass while turning around to the cameras to drop trou?

  7. iwillsavethispatient says at 2:39 pm, October 26th, 2009

freakishlystrong: Yes, we should definitely include an ammendment that says that a resident from an opt-out state can’t come to an opt-in state for their healthcare. Say no to these out-of-staters coming here and stealing our jobs, women and healthcare!

  8. Hooray For Anything: That would be nice, but this is Reid here; he’s much more likely to get on his knees and ask the Chamber to come stand in front so he can kiss their ass.

  9. ChernobylSoup v2 says at 2:42 pm, October 26th, 2009

Whew! Randall Terry got his message out just in time. Sure hope Harry Reid is good at catching subtle hints and stops this abomination.

  10. Extemporanus says at 2:45 pm, October 26th, 2009

I hope he doesn’t leave the bill’s turn signal on after it’s merged, or it’s never gonna get passed.

memzilla: There’s still time to catch the 4:20 to Bakersfield.

  12. recharged95 says at 2:49 pm, October 26th, 2009

Repubs are about bomb (”nuclear option”).
Dems are about guns (”pull the trigger”).

In all it’s about violence. Gotta love this nation!

Oh good, a public option with no bite. How Harry Reid of them.

Matthew 3:15 - Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then Harry consented.

Great! Tax cuts for the rich, entrench the Insurer Barons, Pubic Option = No teeth, no end-of -life provisions, no mitigation of costs….Guess what people, this is a Republican bill.

AbstinenceOnly Ed: Moroni! or is that Morani?

  20. gurukalehuru says at 3:07 pm, October 26th, 2009

I’m all for public option with an opt-out clause. I think it’s a brilliant political strategy. I predict that, if that is indeed what we get, no state opts out for more than two years.

  21. chascates says at 3:12 pm, October 26th, 2009

iwillsavethispatient: NO, NO, NO! I’m already packing for Oregon!

  22. sati demise says at 3:13 pm, October 26th, 2009

gurukalehuru: then they will have to come and grovel..crawl back on their knees and beg for the public option. bwahahahahaha

To help Michelle Bachman and Gretchen Carlson:

Why did the Democrats choose to announce their health care plan at 3:15?

Well, first, take 3:15, and double it. You get 6:30.

Then double the 30, and you get 6:60.

And, what is a 0, but a closet, Marxist, Kenyan 6, just hiding it’s tail?

    6:66!

    It’s in the bible people!

  25. chascates says at 3:27 pm, October 26th, 2009

Public option with opt-out for states from Reid.

  26. chascates says at 3:28 pm, October 26th, 2009

Reid has increased the threshold of high-cost insurance plans that would be subject to taxation to pay for healthcare reform.

Legislation passed by the Senate Finance Committee would impose a 40 percent excise tax on family plans costing more than $21,000, a provision estimated to raise $201 billion for healthcare reform. Under heavy pressure from unions, Reid has increased the threshold so that only family plans costing $23,000 or more would be taxed, said a source familiar with the bill.

The taxable threshold would increase each year by the rate of the Consumer Price Index plus one percent.

  28. and you’re not liveblogging? GASP!

  29. The opt-out will be the funnest thing ever, for years! First of all, the pigfucking states all have the highest obesity levels, VD rates, “Hey ya’ll, watch this” drunken paraplegics, and smoking rates, the health of teh stupid is generally poor, so if the pigfucking states (you know who you are, you’re the ones that fuck pigs) all “opt out,” then the premiums for coverage in the liberal states will be lower because we won’t have to be subsidizing your pigfucking cracker asses the way we do now with general revenue taxes.

And secondlymost, the pigfucking politicians are now going to have to opt out. Those pigfucking state legislators are going to have to actually stand up and vote against health care for their citizens. Kinda interesting thing that is, just like when all the pigfuckers railed against the stimulus, but then, umm, well, OK, give it to me.

    Its a win win.

  30. bitchincamaro says at 4:27 pm, October 26th, 2009

    memzilla: Perfect.

  31. freakishlystrong: Don’t forget Alabama, we don’t want any of socialized medicine. We WANT to get sick and die. Ask any cracker.

  32. Jim89048 says at 4:28 pm, October 26th, 2009

Not that I fuck pigs, or am even a proponent of fucking pigs, but I do live in the pig-fucking state of Nevada, which will crawl across broken glass on it’s knees to opt out of anything that might help the citizens. At least as long as Gibbons is governor, not that Rory Reid would be much better.

  33. Atypical says at 4:29 pm, October 26th, 2009

PoignancySelz: You’re “righter” than you think!

A public option will be administered by, by, (this is true) AN INSURANCE COMPANY!

It’s a win win for everyone.

  34. bamaboy: Now I know perfectly well that that Bama and Louisiana and Mississippi and the rest of the “y’all” states have no real problem with “socialism.” Its just the latest dog whistle word for “niggers.” The crackers have no real problem with socialism or even with big government. Its the damn niggers getting the benefit of either socialism or anything done by the government, thats the problem, and its why they would cut off their nose to spite their face, they would all be perfectly happy getting sick and dying, so long as they could be sure they’d have the satisfaction of knowing, at the end, that “at least the damn niggers didn’t get my tax money.”

  35. zenferret says at 5:18 pm, October 26th, 2009

Atypical: Medicare and Medicaid are already administered by insurance companies.

    So?

  36. Atypical says at 5:39 pm, October 26th, 2009

zenferret: Which ones? Medicare/Medicaid (not including Advantage programs)are administered by the government.

No; it’s much more likely he’ll get on his news, and ask the Chamber to come stand in front, so that he can give them a full-out blowjo…I mean, a nice “trouser kiss”.

  38. LowerdPeninsula says at 10:52 pm, October 26th, 2009
