  • SO CLUTCH: Oh you must, Washington D.C., you must let everyone drink until 5 a.m. on Inauguration Day, at your bars. Also: please find a way to sell alcohol at your alcohol stores after 10 p.m. (This is the terrible town we live in, America.) [Shenanigans]

  1. Actually, Jim Graham, DC City Councilman, is supporting bars to be open 24 hours a day from January 17 to the 21. I don’t know him personally- is he a noted drunk or own a bar?

  2. Wonkette meet-up. I nominate… Hmm. Fuck, what is that called, the Fox and Hound bar at 17th and Q? Or we could go hang with the LNS crew at the Tombs or wherever.

  3. I know somewhere else where you can drink until 5 am! It’s called “a house”, there’s no cover and you don’t get harassed by 40-something hipsters

  4. Just remember that drinking on Inauguration Day is like praying in public school. The government can’t coerce the drinking, but it can’t stop you from doing it on your own.

I’m sure that the Axis of Fun is having a party somewhere.

  5. [re=189192]freakishlystrong[/re]: hahaha Yeah, now is the time for us to dunk our collective heads in a bucket of cold water and get down to business.

  6. That’s fucking sweet! KevoTron will be hitting the capitol for the inauguration and he likes his drinks served late into the evening. Any advice from the locals? I’m flying in on the sixteenth.

  7. [re=189209]Kev-O-Tron[/re]: Yes, after the 17 hundred stories about the Inauguration Clusterfuck on WaPo.com, this was a bright spot. We will be able to get shit-faced drunk and numb ourselves, before we asphyxiate during the inevitable stampede on the Mall.

  8. [re=189209]Kev-O-Tron[/re]: what’s your budget? If you want some fine dining, try to score a reservation at Restaurant Eve Tasting Room (Bistro is great, too, as is eating at the bar–full menu). http://www.restauranteve.com/ The owners also run Eammon’s fish and chips place up the street in Alexandria, and it is much cheaper. http://www.eamonnsdublinchipper.com/ Old Town Alexandria is a fun visit in general. And even though the weather will be awful, I recommend getting out for walks along the GW Parkway and to the FDR Memorial. We saw a pair of eagles in a tree five feet off the Parkway yesterday just below Alexandria.

  9. [re=189225]Doglessliberal[/re]: That sounds nice. I’m quite familiar with DC as I have LOTS of family and friends in the NoVa area. I’m actually a former Georgetown resident (when I was an infant). I rather enjoy the FDR and the mall in general but I’m afraid this whole shenanigan may be something I regret. I’m coming to DC to look for work but would love to meet up with some wonkette people for drinks.

  10. [re=189253]Kev-O-Tron[/re]: we should try to arrange a Wonkette thing, maybe even get our humble editors involved (we need to get Ken back east to cover this Historic Moment)

  11. [re=189252]Doglessliberal[/re]: It was O’Connell’s, thank you! We used to get drunk and sing the Unicorn Song, I would suggest that one for inauguration night, very fitting!

  12. [re=189281]InsidiousTuna[/re]: There are lots of good candidate for locations, but it cannot be on Inauguration day or night because it will be impossible to get anywhere that day. Metro is going to be overwhelmed, plus, most of us have to work that day.

  13. Could someone give me some phone numbers and talking points please! I’m coming in from the buckle of the bible belt and am planning on doing some serious drinking. Lobbying is in order. And by all means, let’s organize a meet up. I can’t wait to meet Angryblkguy and magic titty.

  14. [re=189268]freakishlystrong[/re]: the gd unicorn song? back o’ me hand to ye. Ye’ll start drinking (Irish) and not stop until the SWAT team is there. Then with The Minstrel Boy playing, you’ll go out to face them. Oh wait, that’s for St Patrick’s Day.

  15. The best pizza in the known universe (well, within 200 miles of the Capitol) is Pizzeria Paradiso on P Street, west of Dupont Circle. There’s also one in Georgetown, but I haven’t been there.

The most well-known Irish bar in Old Town is Murphy’s, but it’s awful popular with tourists and the younger set.

  16. [re=189330]IslandGirlFL[/re]: I vote for Finn Maccool’s on 8th SE. Jim Newell has been known to drink there before, and it’s walking distance from my apt.

  17. I hope, for the sake of the suckers who are shelling out several thousand Jew gold to live in our house during the Inauguration weeks, that D.C. loosens up some drinking laws. Otherwise the poor fucks would be stuck here MD partying at the Thirsty Turtle with the leftover college goons- and no one deserves that. I can not think of a single MD bar that doesn’t suck hairy Palin balls.

If any of you out-of-towners are staying in quaint Virginia horse country during inauguration- and I know a ton of you are- I recommend Molly’s pub in Warrenton. Great chips, good pours, and not full of stuffy old money.

  18. I am going to hate myself for knowing this, but they sing the “Unicorn Song” at Murphy’s not O’Connell’s. As a resident of Old Town (when I’m not here in glorious vacations spots like Afghanistan), I can say that Murphy’s is OT’s tourist trap. If you want to mingle with the locals, O’Connell’s or better yet Union Street. Union will have the better post-inaugural crowd (conflict-of-interest note: I hang at Union enough where I should be a part owner).
    :)
