People of all stripes are slowly coming to terms with the fact that Obama will win.

For some, that involves going through the five cycles of grief:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8O6Zz_aYjk

  2. “If you go to a white neighborhood in the suburbs and ask them, ‘How would you feel about a large black man kicking your door in,’ they would say, ‘That doesn’t sound good to me,’” said Democratic political consultant Paul Begala. “But if you say, ‘Your house is on fire, and the firefighter happens to be black,’ it’s a different situation.”

Ok, what about a black firefighter kicking in your door? Or a unicorn?

  3. Actually, that’s just Outkast’s house.

  4. Yay?

  5. Hahahahaha - I thought the tank was full!

  6. While I do like Obama’s give me more money and more health care policy, I do not like his being black policy.

  7. That house is in Indiana. I always found it confusing to see confederate flags on the Union side, but this just blows my mind.

  8. “First of all, he’s not all black. And maybe if a black person gets in there to be president, it’ll keep all the crybabies from crying discrimination.”

I know every vote counts and all, but don’t we all want to make an exception for this guy? Not ther first time I’ve heard the “he’s not really black” argument either. I don’t know if that’s trying to deflate Hopey’s sails as a hisoric candidate, or just cock envy.

  9. Historic is the word I was looking for, of course.

  10. Crab1: hes only half black didnt you see the sign half-breed muslin
so hes ……i dont know half black half hope?

  11. The only Konfederate flag I’ve ever seen flying was in front of a fraternal lodge near the shore in North Plymouth, Mass.

When will Obama bring out black Joe The Plumber?

Well, Sarah did just say “your government should work for you” today. This is just the next logical step, I guess.

carerer: Many current Indiana residents are racist enough to be enthusiastic supporters of slavery, Jim Crow, or whatever godawful oppression was or could be heaped on Black people. Many current residents of the Hoosier State are also ignorant enough not to know that Indiana was not in the traitorous southern states’ attempt at secession. In 1920 Indiana elected a governor on the Ku Klux Klan ticket. Not much has changed.

    Yankees flying CSA battle flags?

Once again shows that we in the South don’t have a corner on S-T-O-O-P-I-D.

I once asked Shelby Foote why my non-slave-owning ancestors fought for the Stars and Bars. Bourbon was involved, but as near as I recall, his response was: “They were drafted.”

And speaking of sound moral judgment and intellectual leadership, and this may be old news here, David Duke is also in the tank, in hopes of instigating a “race war.” ‘United,” indeed.

  21. War Eagle says at 7:24 pm, October 29th, 2008

Kev-O-Tron: Ooooo, Carlo Rossi! Back in the hippie times, we called it “The Gentle Journey.”

So, folks like the myspace dude are allowed to vote? I’m not too sure that’s what the founding fathers had in mind.

  22. Philosophe says at 7:25 pm, October 29th, 2008

And speaking of sound moral judgment and intellectual leadership–and this may be old news here (sorry, I be new)–David Duke is also in the tank, ostensibly in the hopes of instigating a “race war.” ‘United,’ indeed.

There is a fenced in trailer around the corner from my home here in NC with a gigantic confederate flag waving from a white pole. But sadly no Obama sign.

  24. War Eagle says at 7:31 pm, October 29th, 2008

Philosophe: Yep, old news. We’ve known it since, oh, 7:22.

If you think about all the pro-life, bronze-bull worshipping hypocrites who rush their daughters off to the clinic after they get knocked up on prom night, then sure, racists for Obama, why the hell not…

  26. CooterMarie says at 7:35 pm, October 29th, 2008

I made the mistake of looking at the creepy white supremacist site that one of those top-hatted dipshits was a part of and now I’m scared to leave my house just knowing that there are nutjobs in the world like this, just lurking around, going to the 7-11 and driving around with baseball bats and shovels in their cars “just in case”, but so they won’t get caught with weapons. Now I’m eyeing EVERYONE suspiciously. Might even start peeing in jars, just to be on the safe side.

Some of them are voting Obama, thinking it will lead to some kind of “race war”. Whatever, man. Every vote counts!

  27. ForeignSickSpecialist says at 7:35 pm, October 29th, 2008

Kev-O-Tron: Well, I was with him at the “Christianity” part… too bad about the whole RAHOWA thing…

  28. 4tehlulz says at 7:42 pm, October 29th, 2008

ivenson: What about a black firefighter ON a unicorn? Would it matter if the unicorn was black or white?

  29. DustBowlBlues says at 7:42 pm, October 29th, 2008

If only I’d had that on my vehicle here in rural OK. I’d have half the state crowding into the tank. On reflection, perhaps that’s prescription cough syrup induced hyperbole.

A guy up my road (where he also owns the Okie Dokie Bait Shop) flies a confederate flag. On Sept 11, he flew the flag of the secessionists at half mast. Since he’s dumb as a bag of hammers, I doubt he meant it as ironic.

V572625694: in the 1920s, the KKK wasn’t just against african americans, it was also against jews, mexicans, and catholics. They were back to hating 3 out of 4, so they decided to bring back hate classic.

  31. This may get me into trouble, Ken, but I see something like that, and I wish Sister Truth hadn’t been banned.

Maybe she could use the Stars ‘n Bars for a Gone With The Wind-style dress.

    Or not.

In 1988, while attending an Indiana land-grand college, I had a brief fling with a black woman (I am a white male.) My friends, Indiana natives all, openly & to my face called me “nigger lover,” and not only assumed I would not be offended but that I would find it amusing. I did not. I am from Texas, but one of the commie big cities, not Backwardsville.

  33. Isn’t that why Republicans would vote Obama? To kick off a purge in their own ranks to get rid of the douchebags that brought them to this point?

  34. CivicHoliday says at 10:21 pm, October 29th, 2008

That note about “tender young Girl Scouts” made me very hungry. I bet they’d taste wonderful braised with butter and white wine.

  35. There actually are some folks who don’t understand that the Confederate flag is a racist symbol to others, and they need to be educated.

  36. I spent my high school years in Fauquier County, VA. Everyone there insisted the confederate flag was a heritage symbol, not a racist symbol. That’s cool, I can respect having pride in one’s roots or whatever. Too bad that southern heritage of theirs is infused with intolerance. Not everyone on the southern pride bandwagon is that way- and they HATE the racist morons- but a lot of individuals are incredibly backwards.

… Particularly in Warrenton, where all the black people still live in the same houses in the same ghetto their enslaved ancestors were put in to prevent an uprising during the civil war.

  37. AnAdmirerOfThatOne says at 9:26 am, October 30th, 2008

AntiMerican: In fact, the KKK in Indiana back then hated more on Catholics than any other group. There were relatively few black folks in Indiana pre-WWII, while the Univ. of Notre Dame had already established itself as one of the preeminent Catholic institutions. In 1924, the KKK and students at ND got into a fracas in downtown South Bend. An ND alumnus wrote a book about the incident: http://www.amazon.com/Notre-Dame-Vs-Klan-Fighting/dp/0829417710. There is a reason why Indiana is the only industrial midwest state that has consistently voted Republican over the years.

By the way, there is a similar interwebs story about a man in VA who is flying his confederate flag near an Obama yard sign. Strange times indeed. What next? A black Supreme Court Justice who denies racial injustice exists? Oh wait, that’s right…

  38. ColonelKLF says at 10:27 am, October 30th, 2008

I was in a very rural part of North Carolina about a month ago and there were no less than 3 confederate flags around me, but a table of NASCAR shirt wearing North Carolinians were talking about how they were voting for Obama because of job loss and the economy. “We’ve had these republicans in office for 8 years, and they closed that plant out in Kannapolis and my wife and mother lost their jobs.” So, yes, it’s possible.

  39. Well, ain’t that just whistlin’ Dixie.

  40. Lysianthus says at 2:43 pm, October 30th, 2008

On Wednesday, when Obama has been elected, everyone who voted for him should wear or display an American flag. Let’s show them who the “real Americans” are! Let’s take back this country! Please pass the thought along to all your contacts and we can have a national display.
